  • I have to be honest here and say that I never was a real big fan of the Gibson style 6... That was until I met 1227-4.
A close friend of mine took delivery of this monster back in February and recently came to Nashville to have its new mahogany installed. Let me tell you that this is one of the truly special prewar flatheads that has the magic in all the right places.
It has been an honor playing this instrument and I can't wait to ring the rafters of the Ryman Auditorium with it for "Bluegrass Nights". This truly is a bucket list banjo and is worthy of being in this list.
All the best and keep rollin,
    RC

Its a very nice banjo. Great time. I've also heard it said, a great picker can pull tone from no where. I'm sure you're bringing the best out of the instrument.

Any banjo can have that earl sound if you play it right and smooth! Everyone thinks these prewars make the best sound, I can tell you that’s not true at all! I’ve played over 15 pre wars and honestly my grandpas custom banjo made in the 80s over shines most of them! It’s all about the picker my friend!

Wow, it sounds good everywhere on the neck and has the warm tone when you back off it. That's a great sounding banjo, playing as always was terrific thanks for sharing!

That’s some machine but to me it needs a tone ring and 4 strings to be ok for me. Sorry the tenor player has made an entrance

I know you’re a Gold Star fan, so I’ve gotta ask. Do you have any banjos you’d be willing to trade for my HF-100?
