  • Photo slideshow with commentary of the disassembly of a BMW E60 Heads Up Display. According to BMW, this unit is not serviceable, and they are more than happy to sell you a new one for $3000. In my case, there is a cover flap that is actuated by a servo that has stopped working, so I decided to remove the cover flap entirely. After removal and reinstall the HUD appears to work perfectly, saving me a lot of money!
This is not the most professional or in depth video, but I hope it will give someone the confidence to attempt the repair themselves :)
If you have questions about the process feel free to post them in the comments and I will try to answer them. Please consider liking the video, as it improves the reach and hopefully more people will see it.

    Hi Cooper,
In your own experience, can you list the exact amount of parts and name them, in order to remove from a donor car in order to retrofit my 07 528i?
I have 2 donor cars here at a wrecking yard in California, one of them being a 2007 528i and I want to go remove the whole system. Parts here are dirt cheap because you remove them yourself. Please advise.

      Hey mate,
I couldn't tell you exactly what parts you'd need to retrofit a car, because the HUD came stock on my car. For me it was a case of pulling it out, modding it, and putting it straight back in. At the very least, you would need the hud, all the wiring that connects to it, the entire dashboard cowl (or you can cut your own one for the hud), and the HUD specific windshield. For all the other parts I would recommend you check the list here: 5series.net/forums/e60-e61-parts-accessories-mods-22/hud-retrofit-parts-list-69022/
