I love how, in all the thousands of years we've shared our lives with cats, we've never improved on the "When pissed off, wrap in fluffy towel." technique. 😂
To those wondering why the owners don't intervene/help out: lots of vets prefer the owners stay back if the pet was highly stressed/aggressive because 1) vets are professionals who know how to handle any animal, and 2) vets would rather the pet direct its aggression towards them than towards their owners. My dad had a parrot that adored him for years (he got it as a hatchling, long before he even married my mom) until one day he brought it to a vet to get its wings clipped (parrot used to free roam in our backyard) and as my dad was holding the parrot the vet accidentally clipped some skin, drawing blood. From then on the parrot HATED my dad because it associated him with pain and trauma. Broke my dad's heart because he loved that bird but it would always shy away from him. Parrot still loved my mum, my sister and I, so it lived on happily with us. My dad just had to give it a wide birth and toss it treats from a distance.
My cat's vet said the same thing. That must have been heartbreaking for your poor dad. I know how I would feel if my cat stopped loving me all of a sudden.
never heard such a bs. vets at least on this side of the great ocean do the opposite. but talking about health care is nontheless a point of big divergence, regardless of for humans, or animals as it seems :D just replace the pet by a small child, ripped away from their parents. no one would say its OK to traumatize a child in this way, if the alternative is just to have their parents being near or holding a hand... animals are no different to small children, frightened, helpless, forced in an unknown environment with unfamiliar people who wanna do seemingly threatening stuff, and both (depending on age) lacking the capacity to comprehend or process/come to terms with whats going on .... so treating them differently is just again the human hybris to think animals as lesser instead of treating them the same way.

It's very impressive how strong a house cat can be when frightened or aggressive to other cats. You can hardly hold them with both hands, even with thick gloves on. They can bite through almost every glove with thick skin.
My cat seems kind of fat, in a way, and when he lets me carry him seems pretty soft and docile. But the few times when he's got startled in my arms he's turned into an iron ball of squirming muscle. I see this side of him also sometimes when it's time to get him into his carrier. 😾💥🤕

More simple. He's much more protected from all sides with this, it's like when fighting vs several opponents, you always better to put your back on a wall, so opponents can attack only by 180°, not 360°. Plus, it's much more difficult to grab him from there.
My cat used to be like that when we went to the vet. He was a very strong and independent male who lived half his life on the street. Very affectionate and social cat but at the vet he turned into a dangerous monster. Maybe for cats this frightened, they could somehow sanitize the room of scents from other animals? Also, maybe the day before, the vet could give the owner the towels and gloves for him to rub/embed his scent onto, then the vet & vet tech could use the towels & gloves the next day in the checkup? Also, what about some catnip after the exam, so the cat can associate something good with going to the vet?
I'm lucky that my cat is quite calm at the vet. A little nervous only, likes to put his head under my arm, but doesn't mind getting a shot. I am more than enough to hold him for the vet to examine him. Goes back to his cage in no time. I heard Feliway spray would help stressed/anxious cats. This poor fella is too stressed.
On the other hand I once brought in a farm cat, semi- tame. All was good until trying to put in a cage, then it went crazy until I got to vet. I warned her how wild he was, had the big gloves and all ready, opened the cage and he calmly walked out and right up to the vet and purred. She looks at me “ya that’s some vicious animal you have there” 😂
I give so much credit to the owner how understanding and patient he is. Let's them work and he even is concerned it's adorable. Thank you for the content! Lmfao his face at the end haha
I remember bringing my cat to the vet yesterday and acted like this while getting checked. 😂 After minutes of waiting, he let the doctor gets his blood sample without causing a scene from the outside. Thanks to the vet my cat is now feeling better

When a cats paws are sweating it’s usually an indication that they are under intense stress. In this case, this cats aggression is directly related to the level of fear he is experiencing. If his stress heightens much more, it can lead to self-soothing fear induced behaviors such as elimination or as he is already doing, physically attacking. Cats can die of a heart attack due to stress and it’s really not good for their kidneys or heart to be this stressed out. Consider asking a veterinarian for recommendations for calming the cat before his next visit. I’d hate to see him or any animal afraid for their life due to a routine veterinary visit.
My big orange cat does this. He is super nice at home but as soon you take him to the vet he is a phyco douchebag. The vet actually has him marked in his file as aggressive and dangerous because he has kicked so many vet techs asses XD
Copper : a strange women keeps throwing a towel over me, another one is putting things up my bum and my dad keeps on fat shaming me , no wonder i'm pissed.
Annual check ups, gentle handling, and positive reinforcement can make a difference.Thankfully, I've kept to that method with my recent cats, and they have never hissed, scratched, or bitten a tech during an exam.
Yeah, incredibly goofy. Adults talking baby talk. How does shaking his head while babbling baby talk calm the cat? I'd try to shred her annoying voicebox too. wtf kind of vet place is this?!
Becca L.M. , sher was shacking his head to distract the cat from what the vet was doing. When I worked in vet offices, I did that all them time while we were trying to get blood from a cat.
Becca L.M. Head shaking is actually a distraction technique for cats that is taught in veterinary technology school. It helps distract the cat from whatever the doctor is doing by giving them something else to focus on. Why not give them a toy or treat? Those aren't strong enough distractions for aggressive cats, and we don't want to reward unwanted behavior.
As a vet tech I’d like to say I wouldn’t call this a vet visit gone wrong! They were able to do a full exam and shots without sedation and they handled him really well. For some difficult cats, that’s not possible. I will say though, he would benefit from some premeds!
I was surprised that everyone thinks this is a gone wrong when at the vet clinic we get this all the time. I guess us vet assistants really are a different breed
Nah the kindest thing for this cat would to be stop handling and sedate. He is terrified. Sedation is not a bad word. Just because you CAN handle him without sedation, doesn't mean you SHOULD.
@@maddieconnell3250 So what you're saying is, they would have to go exactly through that to even be able to sedate the cat, and then it would be more costly and time consuming for the pet parents? Just because you can sedate doesn't mean you always should. That's how I know you're not a vet tech. A cat is temperamental whether or not you choose to sedate, the cat will be stressed while you're trying to inject it. Maybe the pet parents should use something to calm the cat before going to the vet.
@@lexxymoo51 and that's how I know you aren't a vet tech. There are more forms of sedation than injections. In fact, that is exactly what you call certain forms of oral medication that pet parents use to calm the cat before going to the vet, not to mention it is cheap ;)
My cat is literally like this at the vet. At home she's such an innocent loving cat, but at the vet she goes crazy, looks like a demon lol. I came to the point where I no longer go inside the vet room as I suffer so much seeing her like this. I just let the vets do their job, and when it's done I take her home. Funny thing is when she gets home she goes back to herself like NOTHING happened. I love her so much!
The guy should be. From the cat's perspective he just stood there and laughed while two strangers were holding him down and hurting him. Plus the cat can sense his low testosterone.
@@psychoalert1823 Fear and testosterone are not the same thing. Animals can sense fear, but they can't smell it. Much like a human can sense the fear in another human.
@@sjue316 Fear as well as other emotional states are accompanied by hormones. Humans, as like most other species, are spraying hormones all the time. And a Cat's nose is a very precise instriument. But i guess what Statinskill meant was that the guy sounded like a wimp and by that he would be having a low testosteron level and would be overall unmanly.
My vet never let me step in to help calm my cat when he got like this (they had to reset his dislocated and fractured hip but couldn't put him under [possibly could have killed him]). As she put it, "He needs you to be his comfort after, not one of the bad guys." Best advice a vet ever gave me.
That’s so interesting! My cat is usually so unsocial with strangers and she came home one day with her tail hanging off you could see her bone, we took us a weekend until she could be seen by a vet and you could tell she was in pain, we put her on the table and my cat came over and just squished her face into my tummy and I was petting her head talking to her as he vet cleaned her tail literally her bone - and my cat was crying but she didn’t resist it’s like she knew we were helping her
Or she didn't want you to be there incase it goes wrong. Unlike human doctors who are liable for a patient, vets just sign a form and are scott free. Different story if you were in the room and filmed it however.
From someone who has owned 6 kitties at once, & all manner of kitties since childhood (rescued ferals / adopted etc), had a good handful of these in my time, & let me just say this to those saying to give them pre-meds… the act of giving them those pre-meds is often far more distressing, than 5-10 minutes in the vets office, not to mention the aftermath of worrying about them being out of it, jumping & not landing properly (which, unless you’re carrying them like a baby, you can’t stop - especially with numerous cats to care for, difficult to keep them calm in an environment like that). My vet preferred to do house visits for those this distressed so they weren’t so uptight, & preferred listening to their heart when it was beating faster, easier to detect murmurs or issues. The vet nurses are AMAZING & are trained to deal with distressed animals. Try not to be embarrassed or upset with your furrbabies, they’re outside their comfort zone & just like us humans they get anxious too! I bet by the next day or even by the evening, this beautiful ginger boy forgave (& forgot !) everything after a hearty meal & lots of love! Well done to this vet practice, you did an amazing job xx
Love & Success Follows Me No, the cat may hide for a short time, but he will be affectionate with his owner soon enough. That type of cat is only that way with strangers when they feel threatened. I used to work in an all cat vet clinic, and we would get the lovers, the hiders, and the fighters. The lovers would purr and love on you constantly as a means of self protection. It worked the best. The fighters would turn my knees to water.
As a vet tech I can guarantee she is probably also scared about the possibility of that cat ripping her face off but keeping a brave face in front of the owners. She is also trying to also keep calm so the cat doesn't feel as threatened. Cat scratch fever is one of the scariest things you can get and can lose extremities.
@@tamableeevee6039 I had cat scratch fever once the bacteria was eating through my lymph nodes and now I have a scar on my leg from the surgery on my leg to remove the bacteria. If i didn’t have the surgery my leg would have gotten amputated and I could have died trust me I hate it

No not normal, not for all animals. I have owned 3 dogs. None of them were even remotely like this.
Harriscandoit dogs are awesome.
How he held on to the scale and hid behind the chairs made me laugh and how he hid in the sink lol 😂

The cat sounds like a Honda when VTEC kicks in 🏎💀
When a cats paws are sweating it’s usually an indication that they are under intense stress.

Becca L.M. Why do parents distract kids from getting shots?
Mine was a real sweetheart even at the vet. They fell for him full throttle. He sought comfort from me or the vet when he felt a bit unsure.
"Youre dancing! "
Cat- Bitch ill show you dancing lets dance!
I find aggressive cats more scary than aggressive dogs ffs they're so quick and loud
Sean Sean From my limited experience, Cats don’t push the fight against people. A dog would. It’s more a case of warning others to leave it alone.
hobanagerik cats don't show aggressive signs before attacking like dogs do and are more dangerous in the sense of someone getting injuries.
Yes and they are so clumsy, at least mine so when they go crazy they knock everything down
Yes and they are so clumsy, at least mine so when they go crazy they knock everything down
jared Landers he said "I find more scary" not more dangerous obviously a dog can be more dangerous lmao
It’s defiantly not a good exam it’s actually very bad all they’re doing is terrifying him further. I’m a vet tech myself and this is not ok
That poor cat is absolutely terrified!

I love the fact his owner is scared at him at this point
The guy should be. From the cat's perspective he just stood there and laughed while two strangers were holding him down and hurting him. Plus the cat can sense his low testosterone.
statinskill sense the testesteron? whaut
@@yosemite963 haven't you heard how animals can "smell" our fear? Well guess what
@@psychoalert1823 Fear and testosterone are not the same thing.
KitsuneKuddles never thought of it like that
That’s so interesting! My cat is usually so unsocial with strangers and she came home one day with her tail hanging off you could see her bone, we took us a weekend until she could be seen by a vet and you could tell she was in pain, we put her on the table and my cat came over and just squished her face into my tummy and I was petting her head talking to her as he vet cleaned her tail literally her bone - and my cat was crying but she didn’t resist it’s like she knew we were helping her
Damn that makes a lot of sense, great advice
Or she didn't want you to be there incase it goes wrong. Unlike human doctors who are liable for a patient, vets just sign a form and are scott free. Different story if you were in the room and filmed it however.
@@bobleeroy4346 OP only said they weren't allowed to step in and help, not that they couldn't be in the room. Which makes sense.
Cat: "I'm just trying to pass a kidney stone, so deal with it."
