@@northernsnow6982Yeah, in that sense is true and appropriate, but they could have done it with just two people (the American and one of the other girls, not matter which one). If they are putting seven more countries' representants it's not to only see their reactions. The best thing in this kind of videos is to be aware of similitaries and differences, at least in my opinion.
In Turkiye for starters, paid vacation days is 14 days(2 weeks). And that goes up to 30 days regarding seniority and contract.
In total, vacation days 25-30 days. We have 2 religion feasts (3 + 4 = 7 days, sometimes too much than) and May 1.

I don't know if they cut it from the video but in Brazil we have 30 paid vacation days per year + Holidays (lots of them, where I live it's around 2 per month) + sick days (which are unlimited and also paid, as long as you have the documents to prove you were actually sick)
same in germany. paid vaccation is 28+ days ( depending on the company you work for) + holidays
and unlimited paid "sick days" ( as long as you have the note from a doctor )
you forgot to mention that the vacation counts the days you don't work.
In Poland it's 20 if you have 10 years of "work experience" or less (but your high school or university years, depending on which one you choose, also count as "work experience", so it's usually up to six years from the moment you actually get your first job after finishing your education) and 26 after 10+ years of work experience. Plus holidays and sick days (whith the latter being paid 20% less than your actual salary). You can also take some unpaid days off, but it's like you are temporarily unemployed, even though technically you are still an employee - you don't work, don't get paid and your employer doesn't pay your usual social security benefits.
I'm german and it was a shock that americans get only 12 days off - excluded sickness days! 😱 Why she didn't asked the german woman? In Germany you get 25 - 35 payd vacation days plus (mostly) vacation money on top AND if you are sick, you will get paid too. 😮
It depends on the company you work for in the US, I retired in 2017, I got 8 weeks of paid vacation, paid holidays,80 hours a month for sick days , every 5 years, I got a five year bonus check, maternity leave up to 18 months and plus short term and long term disability leave and on December 31 of every year, the vacation time, you didn’t use was added to the next year vacation time.
Like the other commenter said, it depends on where you work, but many places don't even give you vacation days. It's not mandatory at all. For jobs that do have vacation time, some of them make you work a year first. My last job gave us a week of vacation after working full-time for a year. Then it was 2 weeks after 2 years. If I remember correctly, they would give you a 3rd week, but only after working there for 5 years.
This isn’t across the board.
12 days off is hella generous coming from a company in the US lol, it's way out of the norm, most only give 2 days at most. I'd be surprised if they gave more than 2 days off

Those university games here in Brazil started as something only for university students, but it got a really big stuff, so there are a lot of non-students interested in going to these events. Also, we have something like university parties which have become incredibly huge and a lot of non-students are up to them. I, personally, love those parties, because the most popular singers are there to sing their hits. Interunesp, TUSCA and LUP are examples of university games (during the games, at night, there are enormous parties). Entorta Grego, Santo Gole, Bloquim, Carnadoze, Arraiá da Doze, Expurgo de Nárnia, Bar da Sparta, etc. are university parties from my city, Ribeirão Preto.

I understood that US is a different country from the rest of the world when i saw a "debate" on social media about "who are most popular Beyoncé and Taylor Swift or Ronaldo and Messi" and then i asked myself "what kind of people think this can even be a debate ?" and then a saw "people from US" and my reaction was like "oh , that makes sense now , US " 😂😂

In Indonesia there is something called "cuti bersama" Which mean "group day off" where government issued a mandatory day off period time. This usually happen during Eid (muslim big holidays) and in the end of the year. This could last up to 10 days. If you are working in government institution which include the usual civil service office, also public school, universities, Hospital, and any government related office this isn't even counted to the 12 day off that you can take anytime. And the actual red dates in the calender. Very convenient. You could get like more than a month worth of paid day off. Some private business during the national group day off also follow the government by not counting this to the 12 days allocation and still Pay you. Some might have this as unpaid leaves. some might count it toward the 12 day off allocation. All depend on the company
In Brazil we use inches for screen sizes for some reason. Like, if you are buying a TV, a laptop or cellphone, the size of it will be given in inches
Everything else we just use the metric system

It's super weird, and I'm always asking myself "ok, but how much is 46 inches? how big is that? why don't you guys just say 117 centimeters?"
1. In Indonesia it’s not that common to tip at restaurants because we have to pay service tax anyways, but you can certainly do it if you think the service is exceptional.
2. Religions play a big part in Indonesia, so on top of the facultative holidays you can also take leave for religious occasions like baptism (for Catholics), circumcision (for Muslims), etc.
3. Yeah we don’t have those big as* stuff in our regular grocery stores LOL
4. We do have something like what Ana said about university games as well, but in general only university students would be interested, even then it’s only students who are die-hard sport fans TBH. Otherwise, life goes on as usual for the rest of the academia. The obsession over college sports in the US is simply fascinating!
5. We have our own name for football/soccer, but if you ask us to translate it to English most of us would say “football” of course.
6. We have to learn about imperial system as well, but in our daily life it’s metric all the way.
7. We use DD MM YYYY, but I see the logic in YYYY MM DD.
Same where I live there is also a service charge for a party of 10 or more. In Canada the number of vacation days depends how long you have been working for the company.

"today is the june 6" not june exactly but we say " ayın 6sı" which means " it is the 6th day of the MONTH" (undefined month) but if we say exactly "june 6" we put june before... In Indonesia we have 12 Annual Leave, 11 Public holiday, Marriage leave, Sick Leave, Miscarriage Leave, Parent/Family Member passed away leave, and many more, even for women we have Maternity leave for 2-3 mont fully paid 😊
in 2023, Indonesia has 15 public holiday (collective leave day not included).

I really like how Haley explained and talked about things, I feel like a lot of the Americans I see in vids like these don't really explain things very well and leave out info or don't stipulate the things that could have variance (like when she said 'it's 50-50' for Americans leaving shoes on in the house)
I agree. With a lot of these videos they leave a lot of details out. Glad she is giving more info. I disagree about the shoe thing though. It's probably more like 70/30. A lot of Americans wear shoes indoors

@@brianormonde2175I think 70/30 is too high to be accurate because a lot people who wear shoes indoors are those who just don’t take off their shoes at the door which most of my friends and family don’t. They come in and take them off in their bedrooms. Most people I grew up around didn’t/don’t have carpet or it they do it’s only in the formal living room which no one goes in there except when there are guests. We hang out in the den/family room. We enter our homes through side doors or garage going into the kitchen typically. Most people I know wear slippers/house shoes around their house or socks. It’s not comfortable otherwise.

About the paid vacation days in Brazil, we usually have 30 days guaranteed by law, not counting sick days. The worker can opt to "sell" 10 vacation days, in that case they also receive an extra 1/3 on top of their paid vacation time.
One good thing about using Fahrenheit over Celsius is that we are much more aware of temperature fluctuations in the weather than people who use Celsius. I can tell the difference in 1 degree changes. I think it is like the whole color thing where if you grew up with it you become more aware of it. Like some people cannot differentiate certain colors because it is not something they actively separated (I am not talking about being colorblind either.)
Even though we have lots of things to do in America & we tend to impulse buy because of it when it comes to paid time off (PTO) unless you work in an office environment, usually its up to 14 paid days off & work on most holidays 😮💨

Top tier: MLS (Major League Soccer)
Mid tier: NASL (Noth American Soccer League)
Low tier: US Pro
We, of course, also have corresponding women's leagues as well as USMNT and USWNT (US Wo/Men's National Team). The National Teams are further devided by the U system, like U20 and U24. The older players generally do not compete at the Olympics, though I think that has more to do with being professional players, and the top tier or the M & W team play in World Cup and CONCACAF cups.
This is all working from memory and may be a bit wrong, like the tiers, 2 & 3 may be reversed. And there may actually be a 4th tier, I don't remember.

It’s because in the US the servers are underpaid so they can’t make a living if not for the tip. Yes, it’s a very weird system to employ people you can’t afford to pay a fair wage to. But that’s just the way it is over there.

We are not forced. It is voluntary. If the establishment has a mandatory %, most of us walk out. Plus servers enjoy tips as cash, and not paid by credit card. It is not hard to figure out. @@johan7944

The month comes first in the US because back in the past it took months to transport goods across the sea and so that was viewed as the most important number. Then days were the next most important to understand how long an item would last, while the year didn't matter so much because it didn't take more than a year for most international shipping to occur.

Vixe, nunca vi ninguém não tirar férias na minha vida, ainda mais pq é um processo ganho fácil, ao menos falando em clt. O máximo que vi foi alguém levar quase 12 meses pra sair de férias depois que venceu o período aquisitivo, então pode dizer que a pessoa levou quase 2 anos trabalhando pra tirar as férias.

Canada is officially metric, but we still use imperial for a variety of things.
There's a few TH-cam videos on how Canadians measure things. Example. I'll tell you might height in feet and inches, but I measure distance in meters and kilometers. The outside temperature is Celsius, but I cook using fahrenheit.
Canada is an epic mess when it comes to this sort of thing.
In Brazil the only thing we use inches for is for TV sets size.

In re: vacation days -- every corporate job I've ever held, from entry-level cubicle monkey customer service when I was 22, to my current one has had a minimum of 26 paid days off per year. We break them out between "vacation" vs "holiday" vs "sick" though, due to laws about how "paid time off (PTO)" is considered for overtime purposes. At minimum there would be 10 days vacation, 11 holidays (generally 5 or 6 on a specified date and then 5 or 6 "floaters" and they total 11) and 5 paid sick days. Some places also give from 1 to 5 paid days for volunteer work, and 1 place I worked even let you take up to 3 days per year as "mental health days," though that was simply the company and not a legal requirement. Generally after a few years of service "vacation" goes up to 15 days, and then up to 20 a few years later (a reward for longevity). It's less than Europe still, but it's more than most people realize since most don't think to add *all* their PTO up, and just go "Oh yeah, I only get 2 weeks of vacation a year" while ignoring the rest.
"Soccer" is a term we got from the British -- they had "Association Football" among others. "Association" got truncated to "Soccer." Brtis called it soccer into the 1970's when the powers that be made the decision to call it football to match their continental neighbors. The USA didn't have any impetus to follow suit, however, and we were already calling "that other game" by the footbal name anyway. I'm told that many English-speaking countries across Africa, as well as Australia and New Zealand still call it soccer, though I've never been there to check "on the ground," so I could be misinformed.
Metric -- In the early 1800's, our president Thomas Jefferson thought that the (at the time) new metric system sounded pretty interesting, so he put in an order for a set of "standards" to be brought from France so it could be implemented here. Sadly, that ship fell afoul of pirates. A new order was made, but Napoleon was rampaging so they never got made nor shipped. We had to use something, so the "United States Customary Units" were developed and formally implemented in 1830 (yes, long after Napoleon stopped making things chaotic, but life moved slower back then, I guess). They were derived from the British "Imperial" system, though not all the units that share a name have the same sizes. As a result, the colloquial term for our system is properly "avoirdupois," but people still like to call it "Imperial." Oddly enough, the original set of metric standard was eventually recovered from the pirates and made it to the US in the 1860's, but we were already on the USCU system by then, and well..... inertia has kept us on USCU ever since, really. We use metric in science classes, but that's about it. There have been occasional pushes to change it, but.... inertia.....
Dates -- As Lauren said, the American dialect's spoken syntax is "month, day, year" and we write in that order as a result. I personally find it clearer when writing to use something like "23 JAN 2024" and since the month is written out there's no question, plus by using that format i don't have to use a comma like I would if I said "Jan 23, 2024" so.... I'm hoping it will catch on and then maybe our syntax will flip to match it also.
I actually like the date with the month first. It makes sense to know what month we are in before finding out the day.
@@brianormonde2175Agreed. I frequently use a calendar to schedule appointments and meetings. I need to find the month before the day. I can’t do anything with the day before I know the month. If anything I like the Korean system that starts with the year.
If any change is made I would prefer to start with the year. I actually did this when I was taking professional photos for the U.S. military as a way of assigning ID numbers to the photos called VIRIN numbers. The format was YYMMDD.

In Indonesia, I think every year we have 15-25 red dates. And 12 paid days.
And Muslim celebration for 7-10 days (eid-mubarak day), I think almost 50 days a year.

The days off thing isn't the most accurate anymore. Most regular corporate jobs do 15 days for newer employees and then it increases as the years go on. The sick days are also usually separate from paid vacation days (at least in my experience). The good thing is that more and more companies are increasing the paid vacation days and hopefully it'll finally be put into legislature soon.
Maybe corporate jobs, but a lot of regular jobs don't even get time off, or if they do, it's only after working for a year or more. My previous job we would get a week of vacation after 1 year, then two weeks after 2 years. Only holiday we got off was Christmas
This is different for blue collar, service industry, and biomedical jobs (the three types I've worked). For blue collar and service jobs, we usually get no paid time off or less than two weeks for the whole year; though, PTO is usually only offered to people who've been with the company for a year. One of my previous jobs tried to have a 5 (unpaid) days off per year policy, but couldn't enforce it due a shortage in staff. I think my phlebotomist job was the only one with PTO, and I think it came up to around two weeks off a year; however, that was based off of how many hours we worked and most of us worked an average of 60+ hours a week. I did recently interview for a job that offered 3 week PTO, so there's still hope

90 degrees Fahrenheit
Subtract 32 (since 32 F is 0 C) then divide by 2
90 - 32 = 58
58 / 2 = 29
It’s not exact, of course but it puts you in the ballpark of Celsius.

In Poland 🇵🇱 it's like:
We are going from September to 20-21 December to school then we have Christmas like 2 weeks then we back to school 2nd semester at 8-10 January then we go to school like to first half or second half of February we have again 2 weeks free from school and we are back again and whole March and half April we go to school then is Eastern we have 1 week free from school and then we go back to school until like 20-26 June and then we have 2 months free holidays/vacation. 😂❤

With the exception of what you have said during February, educational periods are pretty similar to the Spanish ones in general (university ones not included; also in some places they used to do some weak off during February, but it's not that common)
In Poland you have 20 or 28 days (it depends of how long you've been working) off to used for entire year and if you get really sick or let's say you had and accident and must lay down in home, you get still paid but only 80%.

It usually mostly depends on the doctor and your work ethics/work environment. From what I've heard, it's pretty easy to get a leave even if you are absolutely fine if you're okay with lying about your symptoms, so some people use that to get additional time off 😶 But then, on the other hand, there are people who don't take time off even if they're sick enough to be very weak or if they're contagious, because they either are actually necessary in their job or they feel like they are (many teachers I know tend to do that). Both of these attitudes are bad, IMO.

In Australia we also call it soccer too because we also have our own football like you do in the US. Ours is called Australian Rules football and mainly in the southern states of the country is where it’s number one. But with the countless of migrants from all over the world we have football (soccer) is getting just as popular, if not more so, depending who you talk to.

The US isn't the only country that calls it soccer. You have countries like Australia, New Zealand, sometumes Ireland, etc that also call it that.
In Canada we also call it soccer.

@@shw7598 nope unpaid vacations are based on boss decision. There is no fixed number for this. but we have bunch of holliydays as she said and sick leaves are generally not counted as paid vacation.
In total, vacation days 25-30 days. We have 2 religion feasts (3 + 4 = 7 days, sometimes too much than) and May 1.

Why didn't explained about Brazil's vacations?
We have an obligatory 30 days off in vacation in a year, that can or cannot be split into 2 sets of 15 days. Also we have a lot of holidays that does not count as vacation. And last but not least, our sick days are paid if it's less then 15 days and does not count as vacation! If our sick days is over 15 days, we are removed from work until we get better and the government is responsible to pay us (much less then our regular job, but ok) using our taxes

Let me explain, so FIFA is the top of the football body organization, they are divided by 6 regions (by continents), the US is in North America so it’s in “CONCACAF”, & each country has their federation & I think your thinking of our federation which is USSF or United States Soccer Federation which includes the national teams of all levels, which sanctions (gives permission) for a professional league (for club team) to compete, our is called MLS (Major League Soccer).
In Czechia, we mostly just round bill to make it faster and don't force them to count all those little coins. Only when it's really good service, we give something extra, but mostly you just round it up, so when your bill is like 385, you say 400 and that's all.
We have 20 days of paid vacation, but unfortunately, law is not real life, so very often you have no real possibility to really use all those days, especially when you work on some well qualified place and there is no replace for you, only people who do unqualified work mostly have really 20 days or even more, also in very big companies it's probably better because there is probably someone who can replace you, but in smaller companies, you don't have that luck and no, when you work as CNC programmer, you can't just put someone there for 2 weeks and say "work" 😀
Sometimes it happens that you have "vacation" but you are still going to work illegaly for money on hand, that's very common.
Also with holidays, we work mostly for German companies and it happens that we just have to go in our holiday because Germans just want their products and nobody cares, fortunately, this got better in last few years, covid solved most of these problems because we don't have that much work as in the past, which I really like, we can finally live normaly, work 8 hours and have free weekends, that was really not a thing before 2020.

As far as time off a lot depends on what you do and who you work for. If her mom is a nurse she likely works a lot of holidays because hospitals don’t close. Neither do news stations. When I was a reporter, I worked most holidays including Thanksgiving, MLK and Christmas. However I got paid extra like time and a half. I was hourly back then and now I am salaried in a different type of job. I am off all holidays including this Monday for Indigenous Peoples Day. ❤I don’t get vacation or sick “days”. I get leave. There are different types of leave. The system is kind of complicated to explain here, but I don’t have a limit to how many days I can take off during the year. If I have the leave I can take it. Each year I also get a choice of either a yearly bonus of money or 40 additional hours of leave time.
I know people who stopped working six months to a year before they retired because they had so much leave built up.
Also some Americans don’t like taking a lot of time off because that makes their work pile up, and they have more to deal with it when they get back. I always check my email even when I am off because it’s not unusual for me to get 100 emails a day. If I don’t check for a week I will be overwhelmed.

If you're sick past your vacation days, not only are you unpaid, in most jobs you're also penalized. Most jobs have a 'points' system and if you get too many, you're fired. At my old job, missing one day, with notice, earned you one point. If you got 5 points, you were fired
In Spain we're in the middle position inside Europe about vacation days. We usually have 22 business days off along the year, which you can _usually_ distribute as you wish. Why do I say _usually_ ?? Because some companies might decide when you could spend a maximum of 11 (half) of those days, if it's crucial for business planning. Workers normally use days before and after a weekend or national holidays, so it's common to have 1 real week off, and just spend 3 days of your vacations, if weekends and festivities match. A few European countries have more than 22 days off... I think Germany has 24 days off and France has some whooping 2.5 days per month: that sums 30 business days off.
The minimum vacation in germany is four weeks (20 days, if you work a five day week, 24 days, if you work six days a week). I assume in some bad paid jobs you wont get more. That means adults. Youth under 18 have more vacations at work.
Personally I have 30 days off, plus two so called "regeneration days" which is basically the same as vacation, plus 24th of december and 31th of december, if that are work days. Plus of course the holidays which are about 11 days (depending whether they are on a work day or not). And of course sick leave is paid and has nothing to do with the vacations. Quite the opposite: if you become sick during vacations, you go to the doctor and get a sick note. The vacation days that you miss out, because you are sick, will not count and you can get them later.

Many US companies have Disability benefits in their healthcare insurance packages - Short Term and Long Term. These guarantee a portion of your wages are paid while you are out of work, depending on job tenure. When I had back surgery my full salary was paid for 3 months via the Short Term Disability insurance, with 7 years tenure.
Also many US states require companies to give maternity leave, paternity leave, and guaranteed paid sick leave. There is also Federal law FMLA which guarantees up to 12 weeks of time of for family emergencies, but it does not require you be paid. Just that you will have your job when you return.

In the US, it depends on the company you work for, I got 8 weeks of paid vacation time, 8O hours of sick leave, paid holidays, short term/ long term disability leave, every five year, I got a five year bonus check, maternity leave was up to 18 months ,and the company I worked for paid 98% of my month health care premium
