Those university games here in Brazil started as something only for university students, but it got a really big stuff, so there are a lot of non-students interested in going to these events. Also, we have something like university parties which have become incredibly huge and a lot of non-students are up to them. I, personally, love those parties, because the most popular singers are there to sing their hits. Interunesp, TUSCA and LUP are examples of university games (during the games, at night, there are enormous parties). Entorta Grego, Santo Gole, Bloquim, Carnadoze, Arraiá da Doze, Expurgo de Nárnia, Bar da Sparta, etc. are university parties from my city, Ribeirão Preto.

In Indonesia there is something called "cuti bersama" Which mean "group day off" where government issued a mandatory day off period time. This usually happen during Eid (muslim big holidays) and in the end of the year. This could last up to 10 days. If you are working in government institution which include the usual civil service office, also public school, universities, Hospital, and any government related office this isn't even counted to the 12 day off that you can take anytime. And the actual red dates in the calender. Very convenient. You could get like more than a month worth of paid day off. Some private business during the national group day off also follow the government by not counting this to the 12 days allocation and still Pay you. Some might have this as unpaid leaves. some might count it toward the 12 day off allocation. All depend on the company

It depends on the company you work for in the US, I retired in 2017, I got 8 weeks of paid vacation, paid holidays,80 hours a month for sick days , every 5 years, I got a five year bonus check, maternity leave up to 18 months and plus short term and long term disability leave and on December 31 of every year, the vacation time, you didn’t use was added to the next year vacation time.
Like the other commenter said, it depends on where you work, but many places don't even give you vacation days. It's not mandatory at all. For jobs that do have vacation time, some of them make you work a year first. My last job gave us a week of vacation after working full-time for a year. Then it was 2 weeks after 2 years. If I remember correctly, they would give you a 3rd week, but only after working there for 5 years.
12 days off is hella generous coming from a company in the US lol, it's way out of the norm, most only give 2 days at most. I'd be surprised if they gave more than 2 days off

I don't know if they cut it from the video but in Brazil we have 30 paid vacation days per year + Holidays (lots of them, where I live it's around 2 per month) + sick days (which are unlimited and also paid, as long as you have the documents to prove you were actually sick)

In Poland it's 20 if you have 10 years of "work experience" or less (but your high school or university years, depending on which one you choose, also count as "work experience", so it's usually up to six years from the moment you actually get your first job after finishing your education) and 26 after 10+ years of work experience. Plus holidays and sick days (whith the latter being paid 20% less than your actual salary). You can also take some unpaid days off, but it's like you are temporarily unemployed, even though technically you are still an employee - you don't work, don't get paid and your employer doesn't pay your usual social security benefits.

The month comes first in the US because back in the past it took months to transport goods across the sea and so that was viewed as the most important number. Then days were the next most important to understand how long an item would last, while the year didn't matter so much because it didn't take more than a year for most international shipping to occur.

In Brazil we use inches for screen sizes for some reason. Like, if you are buying a TV, a laptop or cellphone, the size of it will be given in inches Everything else we just use the metric system

The National Teams are further devided by the U system, like U20 and U24. The older players generally do not compete at the Olympics, though I think that has more to do with being professional players, and the top tier or the M & W team play in World Cup and CONCACAF cups. This is all working from memory and may be a bit wrong, like the tiers, 2 & 3 may be reversed. And there may actually be a 4th tier, I don't remember.
It’s because in the US the servers are underpaid so they can’t make a living if not for the tip. Yes, it’s a very weird system to employ people you can’t afford to pay a fair wage to. But that’s just the way it is over there.

One good thing about using Fahrenheit over Celsius is that we are much more aware of temperature fluctuations in the weather than people who use Celsius. I can tell the difference in 1 degree changes. I think it is like the whole color thing where if you grew up with it you become more aware of it. Like some people cannot differentiate certain colors because it is not something they actively separated (I am not talking about being colorblind either.)

In Poland you have 20 or 28 days (it depends of how long you've been working) off to used for entire year and if you get really sick or let's say you had and accident and must lay down in home, you get still paid but only 80%.
Actually, it's either 20 or 26, not 28 😉 And as for the sick days, in reality you don't have to be extremely sick to get L4. It usually mostly depends on the doctor and your work ethics/work environment. From what I've heard, it's pretty easy to get a leave even if you are absolutely fine if you're okay with lying about your symptoms, so some people use that to get additional time off 😶 But then, on the other hand, there are people who don't take time off even if they're sick enough to be very weak or if they're contagious, because they either are actually necessary in their job or they feel like they are (many teachers I know tend to do that). Both of these attitudes are bad, IMO.

Canada is officially metric, but we still use imperial for a variety of things. There's a few TH-cam videos on how Canadians measure things. Example. I'll tell you might height in feet and inches, but I measure distance in meters and kilometers. The outside temperature is Celsius, but I cook using fahrenheit. Canada is an epic mess when it comes to this sort of thing.

If you're sick past your vacation days, not only are you unpaid, in most jobs you're also penalized. Most jobs have a 'points' system and if you get too many, you're fired. At my old job, missing one day, with notice, earned you one point. If you got 5 points, you were fired

They come in and take them off in their bedrooms. Most people I grew up around didn’t/don’t have carpet or it they do it’s only in the formal living room which no one goes in there except when there are guests. We hang out in the den/family room. We enter our homes through side doors or garage going into the kitchen typically. Most people I know wear slippers/house shoes around their house or socks. It’s not comfortable otherwise.

In re: vacation days -- every corporate job I've ever held, from entry-level cubicle monkey customer service when I was 22, to my current one has had a minimum of 26 paid days off per year. We break them out between "vacation" vs "holiday" vs "sick" though, due to laws about how "paid time off (PTO)" is considered for overtime purposes. At minimum there would be 10 days vacation, 11 holidays (generally 5 or 6 on a specified date and then 5 or 6 "floaters" and they total 11) and 5 paid sick days. Some places also give from 1 to 5 paid days for volunteer work, and 1 place I worked even let you take up to 3 days per year as "mental health days," though that was simply the company and not a legal requirement. Generally after a few years of service "vacation" goes up to 15 days, and then up to 20 a few years later (a reward for longevity). It's less than Europe still, but it's more than most people realize since most don't think to add *all* their PTO up, and just go "Oh yeah, I only get 2 weeks of vacation a year" while ignoring the rest. "Soccer" is a term we got from the British -- they had "Association Football" among others. "Association" got truncated to "Soccer." Brtis called it soccer into the 1970's when the powers that be made the decision to call it football to match their continental neighbors. The USA didn't have any impetus to follow suit, however, and we were already calling "that other game" by the footbal name anyway. I'm told that many English-speaking countries across Africa, as well as Australia and New Zealand still call it soccer, though I've never been there to check "on the ground," so I could be misinformed. Metric -- In the early 1800's, our president Thomas Jefferson thought that the (at the time) new metric system sounded pretty interesting, so he put in an order for a set of "standards" to be brought from France so it could be implemented here. Sadly, that ship fell afoul of pirates. A new order was made, but Napoleon was rampaging so they never got made nor shipped. We had to use something, so the "United States Customary Units" were developed and formally implemented in 1830 (yes, long after Napoleon stopped making things chaotic, but life moved slower back then, I guess). They were derived from the British "Imperial" system, though not all the units that share a name have the same sizes. As a result, the colloquial term for our system is properly "avoirdupois," but people still like to call it "Imperial." Oddly enough, the original set of metric standard was eventually recovered from the pirates and made it to the US in the 1860's, but we were already on the USCU system by then, and well..... inertia has kept us on USCU ever since, really. We use metric in science classes, but that's about it. There have been occasional pushes to change it, but.... inertia..... Dates -- As Lauren said, the American dialect's spoken syntax is "month, day, year" and we write in that order as a result. I personally find it clearer when writing to use something like "23 JAN 2024" and since the month is written out there's no question, plus by using that format i don't have to use a comma like I would if I said "Jan 23, 2024" so.... I'm hoping it will catch on and then maybe our syntax will flip to match it also.

Actually Turkish paid holiday information is wrong. after First year in working, you got 5 days paid holiday, after 2nd year it is like 10 days, after 3rd year 2 weeks and it increases annually. 5 years working = 20 days holiday etc. a 20 year working in a same company can got 2 months paid holidays
I do not understand why the "soccer" word would be a strange thing, that is just the name of this game in the USA (and maybe canada). The word "football" is not used wordlwide. In Indonesia it is what she has saied, in Germany it is "Fussball", in Italy "Calcio", In portugal or Brazil "futebol", in Spain "Futbol", in Denmark "Fodbold", in Australia "Footie", in France "Foot"... The real issue is why USA call a sport where you carry the ball in your arms "football".

They are wrong, because there is no 100% precise delimitation of what an average human body temperature should be, so or they delimitate the upper limit using other temperature systems as auxiliar ones or they stick with a non precise measure system. This also happened with inch, foot and pound measure systems.

The days off thing isn't the most accurate anymore. Most regular corporate jobs do 15 days for newer employees and then it increases as the years go on. The sick days are also usually separate from paid vacation days (at least in my experience). The good thing is that more and more companies are increasing the paid vacation days and hopefully it'll finally be put into legislature soon.
Maybe corporate jobs, but a lot of regular jobs don't even get time off, or if they do, it's only after working for a year or more. My previous job we would get a week of vacation after 1 year, then two weeks after 2 years. Only holiday we got off was Christmas
This is different for blue collar, service industry, and biomedical jobs (the three types I've worked). For blue collar and service jobs, we usually get no paid time off or less than two weeks for the whole year; though, PTO is usually only offered to people who've been with the company for a year. One of my previous jobs tried to have a 5 (unpaid) days off per year policy, but couldn't enforce it due a shortage in staff. I think my phlebotomist job was the only one with PTO, and I think it came up to around two weeks off a year; however, that was based off of how many hours we worked and most of us worked an average of 60+ hours a week. I did recently interview for a job that offered 3 week PTO, so there's still hope

For Soccer/Football in the US it is still FIFA. Which is Fédération Internationale de Football Association. (the international organization that controls the sport of football (soccer).
I was shocked by the british girl and the service charge. Service charge is never on the bill in my experiance and tip is absoutely not expected. English people mostly in general at less the service is exceptional do not give a tip.
In Poland 🇵🇱 it's like: We are going from September to 20-21 December to school then we have Christmas like 2 weeks then we back to school 2nd semester at 8-10 January then we go to school like to first half or second half of February we have again 2 weeks free from school and we are back again and whole March and half April we go to school then is Eastern we have 1 week free from school and then we go back to school until like 20-26 June and then we have 2 months free holidays/vacation. 😂❤
With the exception of what you have said during February, educational periods are pretty similar to the Spanish ones in general (university ones not included; also in some places they used to do some weak off during February, but it's not that common)
I thought the American lady did a so so job of explaining although not all of what she said is accurate. The USA isn’t the only country that says soccer or uses the Imperial system. As far as time off a lot depends on what you do and who you work for. If her mom is a nurse she likely works a lot of holidays because hospitals don’t close. Neither do news stations. When I was a reporter, I worked most holidays including Thanksgiving, MLK and Christmas. However I got paid extra like time and a half. I was hourly back then and now I am salaried in a different type of job. I am off all holidays including this Monday for Indigenous Peoples Day. ❤I don’t get vacation or sick “days”. I get leave. There are different types of leave. The system is kind of complicated to explain here, but I don’t have a limit to how many days I can take off during the year. If I have the leave I can take it. Each year I also get a choice of either a yearly bonus of money or 40 additional hours of leave time. I know people who stopped working six months to a year before they retired because they had so much leave built up. Also some Americans don’t like taking a lot of time off because that makes their work pile up, and they have more to deal with it when they get back. I always check my email even when I am off because it’s not unusual for me to get 100 emails a day. If I don’t check for a week I will be overwhelmed.
Why didn't explained about Brazil's vacations? We have an obligatory 30 days off in vacation in a year, that can or cannot be split into 2 sets of 15 days. Also we have a lot of holidays that does not count as vacation. And last but not least, our sick days are paid if it's less then 15 days and does not count as vacation! If our sick days is over 15 days, we are removed from work until we get better and the government is responsible to pay us (much less then our regular job, but ok) using our taxes

no. They have an hourly wage as well but it is very low and that with the tips is supposed to add up to at least the minimum wage (at least $7.25/hr but some states have a higher minimum wage). If it doesn't, the business owner is supposed to make up the difference to the minimum wage.
In Australia we also call it soccer too because we also have our own football like you do in the US. Ours is called Australian Rules football and mainly in the southern states of the country is where it’s number one. But with the countless of migrants from all over the world we have football (soccer) is getting just as popular, if not more so, depending who you talk to.

Those university games here in Brazil started as something only for university students, but it got a really big stuff, so there are a lot of non-students interested in going to these events. Also, we have something like university parties which have become incredibly huge and a lot of non-students are up to them. I, personally, love those parties, because the most popular singers are there to sing their hits. Interunesp, TUSCA and LUP are examples of university games (during the games, at night, there are enormous parties). Entorta Grego, Santo Gole, Bloquim, Carnadoze, Arraiá da Doze, Expurgo de Nárnia, Bar da Sparta, etc. are university parties from my city, Ribeirão Preto.

In Indonesia there is something called "cuti bersama" Which mean "group day off" where government issued a mandatory day off period time. This usually happen during Eid (muslim big holidays) and in the end of the year. This could last up to 10 days. If you are working in government institution which include the usual civil service office, also public school, universities, Hospital, and any government related office this isn't even counted to the 12 day off that you can take anytime. And the actual red dates in the calender. Very convenient. You could get like more than a month worth of paid day off. Some private business during the national group day off also follow the government by not counting this to the 12 days allocation and still Pay you. Some might have this as unpaid leaves. some might count it toward the 12 day off allocation. All depend on the company

It depends on the company you work for in the US, I retired in 2017, I got 8 weeks of paid vacation, paid holidays,80 hours a month for sick days , every 5 years, I got a five year bonus check, maternity leave up to 18 months and plus short term and long term disability leave and on December 31 of every year, the vacation time, you didn’t use was added to the next year vacation time.
Like the other commenter said, it depends on where you work, but many places don't even give you vacation days. It's not mandatory at all. For jobs that do have vacation time, some of them make you work a year first. My last job gave us a week of vacation after working full-time for a year. Then it was 2 weeks after 2 years. If I remember correctly, they would give you a 3rd week, but only after working there for 5 years.

In Poland it's 20 if you have 10 years of "work experience" or less (but your high school or university years, depending on which one you choose, also count as "work experience", so it's usually up to six years from the moment you actually get your first job after finishing your education) and 26 after 10+ years of work experience. Plus holidays and sick days (whith the latter being paid 20% less than your actual salary). You can also take some unpaid days off, but it's like you are temporarily unemployed, even though technically you are still an employee - you don't work, don't get paid and your employer doesn't pay your usual social security benefits.

The month comes first in the US because back in the past it took months to transport goods across the sea and so that was viewed as the most important number. Then days were the next most important to understand how long an item would last, while the year didn't matter so much because it didn't take more than a year for most international shipping to occur.

In Brazil we use inches for screen sizes for some reason. Like, if you are buying a TV, a laptop or cellphone, the size of it will be given in inches

In Indonesia we have 12 Annual Leave, 11 Public holiday, Marriage leave, Sick Leave, Miscarriage Leave, Parent/Family Member passed away leave, and many more, even for women we have Maternity leave for 2-3 mont fully paid 😊

Some information is wrong about Turkiye. There is no tipping in Turkey. This is very rare.
One good thing about using Fahrenheit over Celsius is that we are much more aware of temperature fluctuations in the weather than people who use Celsius. I can tell the difference in 1 degree changes. I think it is like the whole color thing where if you grew up with it you become more aware of it. Like some people cannot differentiate certain colors because it is not something they actively separated (I am not talking about being colorblind either.)
About the paid vacation days in Brazil, we usually have 30 days guaranteed by law, not counting sick days. The worker can opt to "sell" 10 vacation days, in that case they also receive an extra 1/3 on top of their paid vacation time.

This is scientific data. Paradoxically, in most countries no value is placed on scientific results and instead the actions of the hard-working worker dominate. In Poland you have 20 or 28 days (it depends of how long you've been working) off to used for entire year and if you get really sick or let's say you had and accident and must lay down in home, you get still paid but only 80%.
Actually, it's either 20 or 26, not 28 😉 And as for the sick days, in reality you don't have to be extremely sick to get L4. It usually mostly depends on the doctor and your work ethics/work environment. From what I've heard, it's pretty easy to get a leave even if you are absolutely fine if you're okay with lying about your symptoms, so some people use that to get additional time off 😶 But then, on the other hand, there are people who don't take time off even if they're sick enough to be very weak or if they're contagious, because they either are actually necessary in their job or they feel like they are (many teachers I know tend to do that). Both of these attitudes are bad, IMO.
Only Myanmar , Liberia and US use the "foot" thing to calculate distance and sizes , once I said my height in Cm , 175 cm ( yes , I'm short guy ) and then they asked my in foot and then I didn't know was 5'8 or 5'9 😂

Canada is officially metric, but we still use imperial for a variety of things.
There's a few TH-cam videos on how Canadians measure things. Example. I'll tell you might height in feet and inches, but I measure distance in meters and kilometers. The outside temperature is Celsius, but I cook using fahrenheit.

If you're sick past your vacation days, not only are you unpaid, in most jobs you're also penalized. Most jobs have a 'points' system and if you get too many, you're fired. At my old job, missing one day, with notice, earned you one point. If you got 5 points, you were fired

They come in and take them off in their bedrooms. Most people I grew up around didn’t/don’t have carpet or it they do it’s only in the formal living room which no one goes in there except when there are guests. We hang out in the den/family room. We enter our homes through side doors or garage going into the kitchen typically. Most people I know wear slippers/house shoes around their house or socks. It’s not comfortable otherwise.

Five vacation days only is standard, with four or five paid holidays and five sick days. Retail industry can be forced to work Holidays, but get paid double for those days.

In re: vacation days -- every corporate job I've ever held, from entry-level cubicle monkey customer service when I was 22, to my current one has had a minimum of 26 paid days off per year. We break them out between "vacation" vs "holiday" vs "sick" though, due to laws about how "paid time off (PTO)" is considered for overtime purposes. At minimum there would be 10 days vacation, 11 holidays (generally 5 or 6 on a specified date and then 5 or 6 "floaters" and they total 11) and 5 paid sick days. Some places also give from 1 to 5 paid days for volunteer work, and 1 place I worked even let you take up to 3 days per year as "mental health days," though that was simply the company and not a legal requirement. Generally after a few years of service "vacation" goes up to 15 days, and then up to 20 a few years later (a reward for longevity). It's less than Europe still, but it's more than most people realize since most don't think to add *all* their PTO up, and just go "Oh yeah, I only get 2 weeks of vacation a year" while ignoring the rest.
"Soccer" is a term we got from the British -- they had "Association Football" among others. "Association" got truncated to "Soccer." Brtis called it soccer into the 1970's when the powers that be made the decision to call it football to match their continental neighbors. The USA didn't have any impetus to follow suit, however, and we were already calling "that other game" by the footbal name anyway. I'm told that many English-speaking countries across Africa, as well as Australia and New Zealand still call it soccer, though I've never been there to check "on the ground," so I could be misinformed.
Metric -- In the early 1800's, our president Thomas Jefferson thought that the (at the time) new metric system sounded pretty interesting, so he put in an order for a set of "standards" to be brought from France so it could be implemented here. Sadly, that ship fell afoul of pirates. A new order was made, but Napoleon was rampaging so they never got made nor shipped. We had to use something, so the "United States Customary Units" were developed and formally implemented in 1830 (yes, long after Napoleon stopped making things chaotic, but life moved slower back then, I guess). They were derived from the British "Imperial" system, though not all the units that share a name have the same sizes. As a result, the colloquial term for our system is properly "avoirdupois," but people still like to call it "Imperial." Oddly enough, the original set of metric standard was eventually recovered from the pirates and made it to the US in the 1860's, but we were already on the USCU system by then, and well..... inertia has kept us on USCU ever since, really. We use metric in science classes, but that's about it. There have been occasional pushes to change it, but.... inertia.....
Dates -- As Lauren said, the American dialect's spoken syntax is "month, day, year" and we write in that order as a result. I personally find it clearer when writing to use something like "23 JAN 2024" and since the month is written out there's no question, plus by using that format i don't have to use a comma like I would if I said "Jan 23, 2024" so.... I'm hoping it will catch on and then maybe our syntax will flip to match it also.
I actually like the date with the month first. It makes sense to know what month we are in before finding out the day.

If any change is made I would prefer to start with the year. I actually did this when I was taking professional photos for the U.S. military as a way of assigning ID numbers to the photos called VIRIN numbers. The format was YYMMDD.

Soccer comes from "association football". It's the same kind of thing how British people sometimes say "rugger" for rugby. It's from the 19th century.
In Australia and New Zealand we also call it Soccer and not Football. I think in most Pacific Island countries it's also called soccer.

They are wrong, because there is no 100% precise delimitation of what an average human body temperature should be, so or they delimitate the upper limit using other temperature systems as auxiliar ones or they stick with a non precise measure system. The days off thing isn't the most accurate anymore. Most regular corporate jobs do 15 days for newer employees and then it increases as the years go on. The sick days are also usually separate from paid vacation days (at least in my experience). The good thing is that more and more companies are increasing the paid vacation days and hopefully it'll finally be put into legislature soon.
Maybe corporate jobs, but a lot of regular jobs don't even get time off, or if they do, it's only after working for a year or more. My previous job we would get a week of vacation after 1 year, then two weeks after 2 years. Only holiday we got off was Christmas
This is different for blue collar, service industry, and biomedical jobs (the three types I've worked). For blue collar and service jobs, we usually get no paid time off or less than two weeks for the whole year; though, PTO is usually only offered to people who've been with the company for a year. One of my previous jobs tried to have a 5 (unpaid) days off per year policy, but couldn't enforce it due a shortage in staff. I think my phlebotomist job was the only one with PTO, and I think it came up to around two weeks off a year; however, that was based off of how many hours we worked and most of us worked an average of 60+ hours a week. I did recently interview for a job that offered 3 week PTO, so there's still hope

With the exception of what you have said during February, educational periods are pretty similar to the Spanish ones in general (university ones not included; also in some places they used to do some weak off during February, but it's not that common)

Im from Germany and I have only 24 vacay days which is the minimum. Other family member get 26,28, 30 and even 32..
I thought the American lady did a so so job of explaining although not all of what she said is accurate. The USA isn’t the only country that says soccer or uses the Imperial system.
As far as time off a lot depends on what you do and who you work for. If her mom is a nurse she likely works a lot of holidays because hospitals don’t close. Neither do news stations. When I was a reporter, I worked most holidays including Thanksgiving, MLK and Christmas. However I got paid extra like time and a half. I was hourly back then and now I am salaried in a different type of job. I am off all holidays including this Monday for Indigenous Peoples Day. ❤I don’t get vacation or sick “days”. I get leave. There are different types of leave. The system is kind of complicated to explain here, but I don’t have a limit to how many days I can take off during the year. If I have the leave I can take it. Each year I also get a choice of either a yearly bonus of money or 40 additional hours of leave time.
I know people who stopped working six months to a year before they retired because they had so much leave built up.
Also some Americans don’t like taking a lot of time off because that makes their work pile up, and they have more to deal with it when they get back. I always check my email even when I am off because it’s not unusual for me to get 100 emails a day. If I don’t check for a week I will be overwhelmed.

We have an obligatory 30 days off in vacation in a year, that can or cannot be split into 2 sets of 15 days. Also we have a lot of holidays that does not count as vacation. And last but not least, our sick days are paid if it's less then 15 days and does not count as vacation! If our sick days is over 15 days, we are removed from work until we get better and the government is responsible to pay us (much less then our regular job, but ok) using our taxes

no. They have an hourly wage as well but it is very low and that with the tips is supposed to add up to at least the minimum wage (at least $7.25/hr but some states have a higher minimum wage). If it doesn't, the business owner is supposed to make up the difference to the minimum wage.
In Australia we also call it soccer too because we also have our own football like you do in the US. Ours is called Australian Rules football and mainly in the southern states of the country is where it’s number one. But with the countless of migrants from all over the world we have football (soccer) is getting just as popular, if not more so, depending who you talk to.
