Thomas Smith, I want to thank you for having the courage to say YES to JESUS! Also for letting Macus Grodi (a convert himself) interview you. The Lord has touched your ❤heart and by you giving your testimony, hopefully now more people will fear less and say YES to Jesus... After all Jesus said: " Be not afraid" Well, Thomas.... keep seeking truth so that you may continue to lead them to the one whom is truth.....JESUS! thank you !😌
I, myself, was a Mormon. I happily wasn't there for long, I was considered an official Mormon for about 5 months and officially left the LDS church. I was informed about the spirit brides, and many other non-Biblical doctrines that they believed in and because of this started to ask questions of the church and of J. Smith. This got me into some hot water with the Stake. I was told that I had no faith because I couldn't just trust what I was told by the leaders. Soon after, I left for my own ministry that the Lord led to my heart of witnessing to the homeless in my area which I did for a few years. I am not starting RCIA to join the Catholic church and am excited to learn much more of what the early church fathers taught. I have many friends within the LDS church and one I pray that God leads him out of the cult. Well I pray for them all but the Lord has laid him on my heart.
I befriended two female Mormon missionaries, and they visited my home a few times to speak with me. Every time, they would share the Book of Mormon and their own stories, and then I would share my stories, discuss scripture, and talk about church history. I quickly realized the differences. When I shared with them my plans to become Catholic and I politely declined their offers to attend their church, they cut off all communication with me. I can only pray that my words will help them along their Journey to God.
It takes courage to leave the warm cocoon of religious and family culture. Good that Thomas found his way out of the labyrinth seems as if his need for religious authority has filled the deeper need one mans gnosis another's religion
My family is from eastern Idaho also. I returned from my mission in 1977, and had nothing but questions. To comment regarding my mission. I did not attend church much before my mission, and knew little about the mormon church. I studied on my mission and it became apparent that this was fictitious. It seemed to me it was Lucifer's plan in plain site, with obedience being the first principle, and keys signs and tokens! I served out the two years, but never came home, as my parents stopped communicating with me on my mission. I just pointed to a place on the map, and chose that point to come home. While my missionary friends were going to college I was peeling logs in Santa Fe, in my 3 piece Swedish knit suit. I bounced around for a few years, and as I got older, and tried to attend, I was told by bishops they didn't like my type, and not to return. I eventually married and returned 14 yeas later with my wife and child, in hopes of some sort of family ties. I lived downtown SlC and would have cocktails on my front porch. A few neighbors didn't agree with my lifestyle, and tore me from my porch. It was evening, and all I recall is my frantic 10 year old daughter leading me home. I had noting on but my underpants. I was beaten kicked to where my clothes were torn from my body. I had suffered several cracked ribs, and a punctured lung. My left nostril was ripped clean away from my nose. Mormons have the ability to be evil while thinking they are doing good! There is nothing like the unanimity of the open road, to demonstrate the character of people. While driving in SLC I get flipped off more in one week, than 21 years in Florida! What is more important to my relatives, is are you with the church? Not how are you doing, are you active or not? Because every member a missionary, they punch their obligatory ticket and check off that you are fine on their list of things to do. They love to lay blame that all my troubles stem from my lack of being with the church. Not the fact that many members have actually put obstacles up in my path. I will not bend, I will not break. Ask mormons if they are racist, and they will say no. But they will deny the doctrine of Ham, that Ham was cursed with a dark skin. Also the lamentites were cursed with their skin color too!
AS A PROTESTANT, I am questioning my own Protestant mindset. Maybe, just maybe I'm on a "Journey" to the Christian Church that was before Martin Luther. What I do know now is that from the time Christ left Earth and his Jewish followers became the 1st Christians until the 1500's, there was just ONE church, it was the catholic Church. Ergo, Protestantism has Catholic roots. (Protestants & Catholics have more in common than differences.) Since the Protestant Reformation initiated by Luther, the Protestants have split again and again into more & more groups & subgroups. First there was one Protestant group, then there were two, then Calvin splits it again into more. And, Protestantism has birthed all kinds of churches that are "wacky". Mormonism, Jehovah's Witness, various Church of Christ (CoC) denominations (CoC has become abusive in trying to control every aspect of members lives). Protestant beliefs about God's views on things like homosexuality range from "no way" to "it's ok". No absolute direction at all. Also, Protestants have done away with most of the Sacraments. BUT WHY?! Now, the Mormon church is splitting. (Theres the Mormons, then theres FLDS which still illegally practice polygamy and child marriage). Meanwhile, the Catholic church remains as ONE! Not a hundred, not a dozen, not a few. Just ONE. with ONE leader, the Pope. Help me, I'm protestant! (lol). I am wondering if the Catholic church will become my home too. I asked God to lead me to the truth. If He wants me to do that, OK. (Might I be on this show one day? "Hi Marcus, I'm Tim. And heres my story...." I must admit I still have a lot of issues. Praying to Mary & saints, confession, the rosery thing. Let's see where my road ends up.
Hi Tim, First let me say. I have such deep respect for someone who is willing to follow the truth, wherever it may lead them. That is courageous. I have spent the last 5 years delving into the faith, hearing out the arguments and understanding the Catholic position.. (It only gets cozier the more you know) I would love to help in anyway that I can. So if you are interested in dialogue. Be it, email, skype or phone. I will make time for you. Good luck and God Bless!
Just your intentions are enough to start with. I hope with the help of Holy Spirit you will find the truth which will set you free. This fits out well with John 15:16 " You did not choose me but I choose you". If you are chosen then God bless your efforts to know the truth.
I wish you all the best on your Journey. Please read "Rome Sweet Home" by Scott Hahn. It explains all the things you might be having trouble with. I have been consistently lead to the Catholic church all my life, and even when there were times that I gave up on God, He never gave up on me. I am happy to say that I am now a Catachumen (learning the faith in order to receive the sacraments).
I am a disaffected Mormon who is learning about Catholicism. I was sure that I had the right church until the age of the internet. Even then, there was not much negative information at first. But around 2006, I started running into mind-blowing negative FACTS that couldn't be explained by blaming it on "anti-mormons". At first I put the issues on that proverbial Mormon shelf, but the shocking information just kept piling up. Now I am looking for a new church, but I am not happy about Protestantism's zillion and continuing denominations and sects. Mormons have offshoot sects too, but they won't admit it. I am now reading the Early Church Fathers and I'm honestly hoping that Catholic is Christ's true Church. I'm having a struggle trying to deal with Mary, however. And the Saints. It is very difficult for me to conceive of praying to anyone but God, even though I know it is intercessory. I am really surprised that a 7th generation LDS could break away and become a Catholic! Ironically, my bishop is a former devoted Catholic (he said he was VERY devoted) who now swears that LDS is the true church! I wish I could understand the human mind.
cuinn837 You've made some great points. When i embraced Catholicism at 30, I had looked at various world religions and Christian denominations. Over the course of the years, as challenges and claims were presented, I didn't take anyone's words for anything but researched doctrines as taught by the particular church and history. If there's one thing I learned as a Catholic, is that unlike most other denominations, there is a lot of freedom in Catholicism. Catholics are permitted to to believe and practice anywhere between the two opposite positions of error. Regarding Mary, people are allowed devotion to her. But no Catholic needs to be a "Marian" devotee. The last thing Mary wants is to draw people AWAY from her son and Savior Jesus Christ. Mary is great, scripturally, she is the handmaid of God, the mother of our Lord, she is the 'kecharitomene' the one fully graced by God, she will be called blessed among all generations. Jesus chose to be 'dragged' into his first public miracle at the wedding at Cana. This was a lesson to us that God is more than willing for us to appeal to Mary and the saints for intercession. Regarding your bishop, I find it next to impossible for an educated devoted Catholic to become Mormon. I must think something else happened. Perhaps he fell in love with a Mormon woman. Or perhaps his lifestyle led him to reject Catholic doctrines that got in his way. Peace and God bless you.
I think my bishop joined many years ago before lots of shocking things became available on the internet. He is highly educated but extremely busy and hasn't taken the time to research things. If I tell him, he would say that I must be mistaken and "you can't believe everything you read on the internet". People have to be motivated to look for things themselves and check the reliability of the sources. The LDS church did a great job of whitewashing their history. Before the internet, I didn't believe any negative information I read or heard because it was much harder to check up their resources and make sure they got it right. I just assumed that you could trust LDS leaders.
cuinn837 I'm a craddle catholic, and yet only recently I began really learning about my faith. There are many catholics who know very little, which is sad, because we have now easy access to the teachings of the Church. Yet, many don't try to learn. Well, it's great that there are people that, like you, take their time to research. And if you need any help understanding a specific catholic doctrine, I could try to help you. We could research and learn together.
cuinn Human mind can be swayed to believe wrongly. There is a consistency in Catholic faith yes there is sinners I joined because I saw the line the truth but I was aware of human sinners in body of Christ I go by what scripture says that Jesus commanded. Paul says work out your salvation with fear and trembling.
President Spencer W. Kimball [Mormon prophet in the mid 1970's] said in a general priesthood meeting: “Brethren, 225,000 of you are here tonight. I suppose 225,000 of you may become gods. There seems to be plenty of space out there in the universe. And the Lord has proved that he knows how to do it. I think he could make, or probably have us help make, worlds for all of us, for every one of us 225,000.". www.lds.org/general-conference/print/1975/10/the-privilege-of-holding-the-priesthood?lang=eng
Mary's womb is the Church. The imagery should serve to create a total submission to the Church God planted on this Earth. In the Church we find protection, nourishment and the love of God, just like a baby in his mother's womb.
you know I never understood why people who were Mormon got offended when you pointed out that Mormons are in fact polytheistic they do not have the Orthodox Christian Orthodox in the sense meaning traditional not necessarily Eastern Orthodox all the Eastern Orthodox certainly have the right belief on the Trinity although they accuse us Catholics have somehow being heretical not all of them, but I mean orthodox like I said in the traditional Christian sense. if Mormonism isn't polytheistic then I fail to see how it can teach a Doctrine such as the plurality of the Gods but you can even go to the website mormon.org and it's right there for everyone to see. all the Mormons no longer profess it as part of their Doctrine what about the Mormon God Doctrine? I fail to see how Brigham Young could have come to the conclusion that Adam was in fact God now this is confusing to me for multiple reasons the main one being how could God create God? Now I understand how God can become man to me that is a logical possibility but God cannot create himself the Eternal Sun has existed from all eternity which Mormons do not believe Mormons believe that the father even God the Father who has no body God the father is Pierce Spirit was once a normal man that became exhausted into godhood. Mormons also deny that Jesus was conceived by the power of the Holy Spirit or Holy Ghost if you want to go with Mormon terminology of course both terms are use differently and Mormonism then they are in Orthodox Christianity. but Mormons in statically denies that Jesus was conceived by the power of the Holy Ghost as they claim that he was conceived by carnal relations from God the father and the Virgin Mary. well then I guess she wouldn't have been a virgin either since God was a normal man according to Mormons that became exhausted into godhood. Mormons also denied that Jesus was as I said before conceived by the power of the Holy Ghost but Matthew chapter 1 verse 20 says specifically that he was. now I could argue the anachronisms in the Book of Mormon but there's no point no matter what you tell them Mormon apologist they're still not going to listen. to be sure there are many family-oriented Mormons that are very sincere about their beliefs and I respect that but you can be very sincere about something and it can still be wrong. I feel like Mormons don't have a clue about who the apostolic fathers are if they would they would know of st. Ignatius of Antioch and polycarp of Smyrna people who were taught by the apostles themselves and held to Catholic and Orthodox Doctrine such as the real presence of the Eucharist even if they didn't use those firms remember is they died for believing that bread and wine become the body and blood of Christ they were killed for that Mormons don't believe that. no one thing about Mormonism that confuses me is the claim that American Indians are actually Jews now I have both American Indian and Jewish ancestry, but this has more to do with the fact that some of my ancestors that were Jewish Mary married some of my ancestors that were Indian. not only is there not any archaeological evidence that American Indians descended from Jews but there's no genetic evidence either unless you get people like me who have mixed ethnic and racial background. again. I'm not trying to be uncharitable but Mormonism make some pretty strong claims like the belief in a total apostasy in the Bible cover to cover and I read the book of Mormon when I was young the Bible, even if you can't necessarily prove it still seems to be more logically coherent. The Book of Mormon reads more like a work of fiction. And I'm going to say something that I know is going to offend Mormons. Joseph Smith was no prophet he failed to live up to what was expected of a prophet according to the Old Testament. there's also some evidence that is actually stole another man's writings and claimed them as his own. again I'm not trying to be mean to Mormons and I know this is something really difficult to deal with, and the truth is the evidence is just doesn't point to Mormonism
We are offended because it simply is not true. From the Book of Mormon -- 1. "doctrine of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost, which is one God, without end." 2. " And the honor be to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Ghost, which is one God. Amen." 3. " unto the Father, and unto the Son, and unto the Holy Ghost, which are one God" However, we do not accept the Nicene Creed of the "one substance entity" but what Christ taught in the Bibole John 17:19-23.
cdowis you should be more forthright about what Mormon teachings actually are. Some of the Mormon beliefs and teachings of the D & C's actually contradict what is written in the Book of Mormon. For instance, the Book of Mormon teaches that polygamy is a terrible sin that is never to be practiced, but then Joseph Smith received "revelation" that God commanded him to take numerous wives, and then polygamy became a doctrinal teaching of Mormonism, even though the Book of Mormon seems to prohibit it. LDS discontinued the practice of polygamy (under pressure of the U.S. Government), but it is still a doctrinal belief that it will be polygamy will be practiced in heaven. So, it appears that the Book of Mormon supports the belief of one Triune God, but in other Mormon teachings, it is clearly not the case. All Mormons I know do not accept the doctrine of the Trinity, instead, they belief that the Father, the Son and the Holy Ghost are completely separate beings apart from each other, but they are only "one" in "purpose," like they are on the same page, working as a team to carry out the same mission. I know that Mormons believe that God the Father has a flesh body, and was once a simple human being (like we are), living on another planet, worshiping his own "god." He then lived an obedient life and "progressed" to the point where he was "exalted" as a "god." Then, as a "god" he was able to use pre-existing matter to create universes & planets, and then populate them by reproducing with his goddess wife/wives. Even though this god and his goddess wife (or wives) have physical bodies, somehow they reproduce spirit children who live in heaven in the "pre-existence" for a while, and are then sent to planets to be born into human bodies of flesh, and then have the possibility of progressing to exaltation to become gods themselves who will then rule universes and create their own people to worship them. And in Mormon teaching, Jesus was literal spiritual child of the man-turned-god and one of his wives who then was somehow born into flesh as a human when his Heavenly Father came down and had sexual relations with Mary. I don't know who Mormons teach the Holy Ghost is though, whether he's another child still in spirit form, or something else... So all that, plus so much more (it would take volumes to compare Mormon teachings/beliefs with orthodox Christianity), Mormonism's very strange theology and teachings on God are drastically different than Christian theology. Mormonism is not a monotheistic faith, it teaches that there are an unlimited number of god's, but that we are only supposed to worship "our" Heavenly Father, (while working to become god's ourselves) and ignore the rest of the trillions of "gods" in existence. The thing about Mormonism is that outwardly it appears very "Christian" and has borrowed much of its terminology from Christianity, but applied new and different definitions to that terminology. So at first, when Mormons and Christians converse with one another, it may seem that they are on the same page, and in agreement with many aspects of the faith, but in reality, the differences of belief are quite drastic, and they outweigh the similarities. Also, I do know that Mormons teach that non-Mormons do not have the Holy Ghost to guide them and help them understand the Mormon faith, so they use the motto "milk before meat" and believe that the faith must be handed on incrementally, and the harder doctrines taught when a person can better accept them. Mormonism is kind of "gnostic" in that sense. But anyways, it may be innocent, but I sense a lot of deceptiveness in the ways a lot of Mormons try to evangelize.
cuinn I came from a Baptist Church I entered into Catholic Church when I saw in Isaiah 22 authority office keys Matthew 6 16 18 I realized Simon named changed by Jesus to Peter who was Jewish would understand what Messiah was saying. In Maccabees 12 it speaks of praying for dead Jews then and even today do this. You can pray to Jesus. I pray to saints now in times of great trouble. Why they such as St. Jude friends of Christ believe as it says in Rev our prays incense gives to God. Our faith is fulfillment of prophecies in Old Testament one must understand correctly protestants don't have the whole scripture Catholics Old Testament is what Jesus spoke from when alive. I also saw John 20 19 23 Jesus instituting confession breathing on his apostles giving them his authority to absolve sins. John 6 51 55 Jesus institutes Eucharist Old testament Passover. If you have questions go to Catholic answers or Scott Hahn or a priests
14:26 "In the beginning it (Mormonism) wasn't as diametrically opposed to the Catholic faith as it is today." Wow, doesn't that ring true about Protestantism, as well.
Bottom line -- "I was not spiritually prepared for my mission. When I met people who had a spiritual relationship with God, I blamed the church, and I left."
Timbrock1000 I was born a Baptist. I in later years was asked where does your Bible come from I didn't know. I found out that there was no Bible accept Old Testament when Jesus dieded on Cross. The apostles followed commands Jesus gave them from ten commands to Matthew 6 16 18 John 20 19 23 John 6 51 55. The rosary is biblical it is in scripture the rosary is all about the life of Jesus. Monday one can say Joyful mysterious. about Angel Gabriel coming to Mary in book of Luke next one is visitation when Mary visited Elizabeth Nativity when Jesus was born presentation of Savior at Temple last finding Jesus in temple. Hail Mary is in scripture we say also Our Father in scripture. Saints read Rev. before the throne of God offering to God prayers incense from us. remember the transfiguration Jesus was speaking to Moses he had passed we do have another life after we die. It was different for me. I learned that to have the whole scripture which is Catholic Why? The Catholic Church kept the Old Testament Jesus spoke from when he was on this earth. Mary is in old Testament Gen. 3 15 Isaiah 7 14 Luke Rev. she was a creature a special Creature I knew as a Baptist even not taught when reading that first eve disobeyed God brought death. Mary obeyed God and brought life redemption. Mary is not worshiped in Catholic Church she is honored Jesus loved his Mother and honored her. Also if you read in book of Kings Jewish King bowed to his Mother when she came in respect,, sat her next to him answering her request. In Jewish custom the mother of a King was called a Queen. She was not above King. One must know understand Jewish culture Mothers highly respected that is what we do with Mary. Also I found out reading Old Testament God forbids to Jews idols. from pagan nations back then. later he commands them to make a Sherphim and Cheribum puttting one on each side of Ark. or the Tabernacle. The Catholic Church apostles Savior were all Jewish The Catholic faith has Tabernacle in Middle angels on side candlesticks oil as in a synagogue incense as in a synagogue still priesthood as Jewish set up succession unity to last till he comes no matter what evil times. In Catholic faith there is reverence and reading daily of Old and New Testem;ent homily main focus is Eucharist Jesus. Matthew that speaks of remarriage marriage divorce abortion contraception the Catholic Church has not changed even though other so called protestant faiths accept these things civil divorce is not acknowledged in Catholic faith your Marriage must be invalid from day one looked at by spiritual priests who have studied Canon Law. Doing as Jesus said if you have questions go to Church. I have found the Catholic faith to be the most Biblical and obeying Jesus commands it has always safeguarded the early apostles letters. though the years Church painstaking copied to be able to publish. That is why in most Catholic Churches you will find pictures of Jesus life walking to cavalry so people who lived years ago would understand what Savior did for for us. remember in beginning scripture was very expensive for ordinary people. Jesus said go baptize and teach all Nations. He never said only read scripture Jews had Oral tradition so doesn't Catholic Church it speaks of this by Paul to hold fast. There is a reverence and peace we worship Ki;ng of Kings to knee I had not done in protestant faith. We need to be humble. He is God who am I to question what he wrote I didn't understand what Jesus said to his followers in John 6 51 55 but I read it over and over the end part says some found this saying hard so they left. He said if you do not eat my flesh or drink my blood you will not have eternal life. The host and wine are called elements in faith. They do not change in appearance but priest was given power to change. Rev. speaks of Savior up in Heaven today. God never left us orphans He loved us to much
"Now, let all who may hear these doctrines, pause before they make light of them, or treat them with indifference, for they will prove their salvation or damnation? (Journal of Discourses, Vol. 1, pp. 50,51) "I have never yet preached a sermon and sent it out to the Children of men, that they may not call scripture!" Bringham Young, Journal of Discourses, Volume 13, page 95. "Shall I tell you the law of God in regard to the African race? If the white man who belongs to the chosen seed mixes his blood with the seed of Cain, the penalty, under the law of God, is death on the spot. This will ALWAYS be so." Journal of Discourses, Volume 10, page 110. " . . . after the flood we are told that the curse that had been pronounced upon Cain was continued through Ham's wife, as he had married a wife of that seed. And why did it pass through the flood? Because it was necessary that the devil should have a representation a upon a the earth as well as God;.... " Journal of Discourses, Volume 22, page 304.
REALLY? Read this, Matthew 16 Peter's faith; Jesus Promises v15 Jesus asked them, But you, who do you say I am?"16 Peter answered,"You are the Messiah, the Son of the Living God."17 Jesus replied,"It is well for you, Simon Barjona, for it is not flesh or blood that has revealed this to you, but my Father in heaven. 18And now I say to you: You are Peter (or Rock) and on this rock I will build MY CHURCH; and never will the powers of death overcome it, 19 I will give you the keys of the kingdom of heaven, and what you bind on earth shall be bound in heaven, and what you unbind on earth shall be unbound in heaven." JESUS SAID TO PETER, "MY CHURCH" not "MY CHURCHES".Read bet. the lines
Calvary Study Satanic cult? LOL Now you are calling us a Satanic Cult? Wow! You are way behind your time! YOU ARE REALLY A PROTESTANT! All I can say Jesus, please bless the Roman Catholic more! Our Father, who art in heaven, Hallowed be Thy Name, Thy Kingdom come, Thy Will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread, and forgive those who trespass against us.and lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil.Amen.
Cecilia Degan LOL. Jesus never told you to pray those words. “Through some crack or other in the temple of God, the smoke of Satan has entered .” - Pope Paul VI, 1972 Wow, i guess paul was a PROTESTANT! the exorcist. ... To the question, 'Are there men of the curia who are followers of Satan?' Milingo responded, 'Certainly there are priests and bishops. I stop at this level of ecclesiastical hierarchy because I am an archbishop, higher than this I cannot go.' - Archbishop Milingo "Archbishop Milingo is a good bishop and his contention that there are satanists in Rome is completely correct. Anybody who is acquainted with the state of affairs in the Vatican in the last 35 years is well aware that the prince of darkness has had and still has his surrogates in the court of St. Peter in Rome." - Malachi Martin. Ex Jesuit
Calvary Study MT 6:9-15: This, then, is to be your prayer, Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name; 10 thy kingdom come; thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven; 11 give us this day our daily bread;[2] 12 and forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive them that trespass against us; 13 and lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. Amen. 14 Your heavenly Father will forgive you your transgressions, if you forgive your fellow men theirs; 15 if you do not forgive them, your heavenly Father will not forgive your transgressions either.

protestantism holds as much validity as mormonism. Mormons are fully realized protestants. They are your baby. I agree mormons are wrong but so are you.
St. Jerome ok mr. We are the only true church, the only true Christians, listen to us, we are right, ypu are wrong and I wont listen to you. Welcome to the world of cults
St. Jerome Have a strong faith.I have a friend, that ran across a Mormon, who converted, one, the Blessed Mother Mary appeared to his three children, then appeared to him.She said that the Catholic faith is the true faith. So you are in the right track! God bless!
No matter what verses you imply, you subtracted.Your bible is incomplete. The Roman Catholic Bible is complete.Matthew 16 PETER'S FAITH; JESUS PROMISES V.15Jesus asked them,"But you who do you say I am?"16 Peter answered,"You are the Messiah, the Son of the Living God."17 Jesus replied, "It is well for you, Simon Barjona, for it is not flesh or blood that has revealed this to you, but my Father in heaven. 18 And now I say to you: You are Peter (or Rock) and on this rock I will build MY CHURCH; and never will the powers of death overcome it. 19 I will give you the keys of the kingdom of heaven:whatever you bind on earth shall be bound in heaven, and whatever you unbind on earth shall be unbound in heaven." SO, Calvary, Jesus didn't say MY CHURCHES, but only said"MY CHURCH".Read between the lines, ok?
So many of these videos don't have comments enable, its hilarious! the only time some one does that is in attempt to stifle free speech. I suppose that makes sense since the church at large has operated with a mind set that says that is okay for about 2,000 years. I am a person who has had a crisis of faith in another church, so I have questions about Catholicism, one being, if the pope is the vicar of Christ on earth and in the smallest sense at least has Christs direction why have there been so many horrible things done by the church? If Christ were leading wouldn't mistakes or errors be impossible? Since he is perfect? Or is he imperfect and just okay with the church doing horrible things over the last 2,000 years? Those horrible things did happen, so either he wasn't with the church during those times or sometimes the pope is not capable of channeling or interpreting the will of God, if that is the case, why follow to begin with? My view of God is that he is by default all powerful, perfect and all knowing, if he assists an endeavor or blesses it or is involved in anyway how could it error? How could he be involved in error? For what business does darkness have with light? But there the church is, shaking hands with Nazis, all the crusades, all the inquisitions, persecuting bible readers and translators in an attempt to keep power out of the hands of the people. No lens of time could say these acts are the will of a perfect loving God, if that is the case then he isn't behind this church. or any other on earth at the moment. In the year 2000 John Paul the second had quite a bit to apologize for on behalf of his church. If it had Gods backing, would there be so much, if any to apologize for? Or is God just bad at his Job? it has to be one or the other.
Hello :) thanks for the interesting question! You sound like you also wonder why God let sin into the world. But you said it yourself he's a "loving God", and you wouldn't expect him to force you to follow Him if He's as good as we claim. Therefore, he gave us free will. 'Cause who wants robots to love them? lol >< And yes, He saw the imperfectness of His Church coming; but see, He was calling on the sinners the most to constitute it. And what are we all? We're all sinners. I say what is impossible is to expect a whole multitude of sinners to be perfectly controlled by God. What they're referring to in the video that Christ protects the Church can be quoted from Matthew 16:18 "And I tell you that you are Peter, and on this rock I will build my church, and the gates of Hades will not overcome it." Catholics take this as the establishing of the Church by Jesus and His promise that it will not fall under the devil's hands. And with that, the infallability of the pope(from my understanding) is because the Holy Spirit guides the pope and will not let his admistration cause for the Church's fall. It only applies to the official statements/doctrines that will rest with the Church forever(www.catholicfaithandreason.org/papal-infallibility.html). Funny story, Pope Sixtus V died because he almost released a wrong translation of the Vulgate. The RCC admits the crusades weren't the best of its days(& history study to unpack the myths). But Catholic Church has actually helped more than damaged: the poor, the orphan, the widows-- just as the Christian message is(James 1:27 "Religion that God our Father accepts as pure and faultless is this: to look after orphans and widows in their distress and to keep oneself from being polluted by the world."). Even Peter sinned at the point of Christ's passion. The truth is God looks at us with the mercy of a Father :) hope this helps! p.s. I think you're doing great on searching for the truth ;) keep it up!
If it wasn't my nap time I would digress, but the irony of this "Journey Home" segment is the pot calling the kettle black so to say. The host seemingly doesn't know the Catholic Church history of inquisitions of murdering dissenters (both with the Cathars in France) an other earlier crusades including the Templars, not to mention Joan of Arc, etc. etc., supressing science as in Galelio, the attempts to silence Luther and other early protestants. Jesus taught forgiveness and mercy "Vengence is mine says the Lord", an (to Peter) who lives by the sword will die by the sword...not practiced by the Catholic church from as early as the 350-500 era. Now they call it Popes and "anti-Popes" to differentiate the wealthy, thieves and murderers who held the office, but from running prostitution an money laundering (selling indulgences) in the time of St. Augustine the Catholic Church has been on the side of power and money (often secretly) for more than a thousand years. The Medici, Borgias, an other wealthy (often Italian) families have controlled Rome and the Vatican when they couldn't maintain religious and political control of the larger world. Oddly, I still support Catholic organizations an instutions who teach, help the poor and sick, and promote living the gospel. Perhaps within the interview the comment about the "invisible church" bears more truth than any of us realize. Pray for us, praise God for his Love and forgiveness so that we can receive the salvation that He offers to us in Jesus.
James Maher "Catholic" means "Universal". Our church encompasses saints like Mother Teresa, and some really horrible sinners, as you pointed out, and everyone in between. Most of us are pretty good, and continually trying to be better. If you take any large organization that's been around for 2000 years and look for its worst members, you're going to find some pretty ugly stuff. But to condemn an entire religion and billions of people based on a tiny subset of people (and many of these people broke the church's own laws and God's commandments!), well, that's some pretty silly reasoning. If you look at what we aspire to (read the CCC), and want to condemn us based on that, it would make a stronger argument, and might be more convincing.
the reason is because we mormons do beleive Jesus is the god of our salvation but we do beleive also thta he is laterally the only begotten son of God the head Father. The one Jesus told us to pray to when he was on earth he said pray to your father who is heaven. He didn't say pray to him. he siad pray in his name no one gets to the father but through him. gets to the father means someone else other than him. when he healed lazerous he said thinkyou to his father for hearing him. you wouldnt say that to yourself. when Jesus was baptised his father showed up and introduced himself as separate obviously. so many people deny the father and just because he was a missionary means nothing many missionaries don't know the simplicities. Also Steven saw the father and son and separate.
From one demonic church that rejects salvation through grace alone, to another demonic church that rejects salvation through grace alone..Catholicism is no more Christian than Mormonism is..
Thomas Smith has a flawed understanding of the history and doctrine of polygamy in the church, but this is understandable because the LDS church does not teach these details except at the University level. So he is getting his information from critics of the church.
st Antioch was the first to call the early Christians catholic before 300 a.d. but unfortunately there was a split in around 1000 a.d. for the east othodox and west catholic church! I believe the Catholic Church is most in line with the early Christians . although Martin Luther may have had good reason to leave the Catholic Church at the time...his church(s) are definitely not the one true church that God promises to be with!
Jesus said, 'Go out to all the world and preach the good news and baptize in the name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit.' The 'whole world' means 'everywhere.' He wanted his Church, in short, to be universal, to be everywhere, for everyone to hear the gospel. Guess what 'universal' means? Another word for it is... 'catholic.' 'Catholic' means, 'the Church that spread the gospel everywhere.' Now you read history and tell me who was spreading the Gospel everywhere starting with the Apostles and going on for 2,000 years. I'll bet you've never read a SINGLE WORD of the early Church writers, the men appointed by the Apostles in 'start-up' churches as Christianity spread from Jerusalem out into the wider world. You will find that ALL of them preach the same doctrines as the Catholic Church today, and that their worship was the same as the Catholic Mass today. Facts can't be denied - so they have to be ignored if you want to remain an ignoramus and a bigot. Read history, find the facts, or remain an ignorant bigot. That's your choice.
you lie so much JS never said that. He never said that you have added words and taken out words and another things is I can write someone said something and mis quote it on th intrnet and then use it to my purpose and then others too. you can fool them and get you some prestige and placement but people that know where the real writing are not the haters false writing won't be fooled by you. so sad, if you ae sincere you should have done more research. They do beleive he is the eternal god as in he is the father of our salvation because he atoned for us. his father couldn't because you can only die once and jesus was mortal and we needed a mortal to suffer for our sins Jesus father who sent him Jesus is only begotten Jesus being have god and half mortal half Mary so he could die. You poor guy you don't even know your own religion. Outter darkness is hell. Joseph Smith never said you would commit suicide to go to telestial kingdom. you really don't know the facts of your religion you should have done your own research. look it up from a JS scholar and get the the real reference. oh gosh. type in Jesus said we are gods. our spiritual father is a god and we are trying to become like him you grow up to be like your parents. WE are not Jesus we are not The father that sent us and Jesus but we are spiritual children . Like he said he knew us before we were in the womb and if he had scriptures about who would come they must have existed and been trained before you came.
you miss so many things on how the catholic church prays to others than God the father and Jesus christ they pray to apostles and other they claim to be saints light candles to them. yet you blame the mormons for having more than one god. no one gets to the father but thorugh Christ and so not praying to other dead people is wrong. you leave out how a person is made through egg and sperm and yet deny that Jesus came through a womb egg that was fertilized or why didn't god just leave a baby on the bed to Mary? if it wasn't by that way then how how was it? how did Jesus have brothers so did mary have them with Joseph after Jesus or before jesus or was Joseph married before Mary? If you want to think, think. other protestant religions you just claim jesus is god and you are saved. In that case Mormons are completely saved they say that and pray in his name and named the church after him and not a bunch of mortals. Why does your church celebrate other people if it is god church. and the catholic church has many books besides the bible. it is the pot calling the kettle black when you say there should be no BOM when catholic have many other books that they only let them see
Bobby C. Next time when your friends ask you to pray for them during their time of crisis, would you shut them up by telling them :"don't pray to me, I am no God."? Catholic believes Saints are alive, not dead, so asking someone to pray together TO JESUS is as good as you and your friend praying together to Jesus. How do Catholic knows they are alive in Heaven? Bible only quote Enoch and Elijah taken to Heaven, the rest, we really do not know 100%. Even if we do get it wrong, they are not alive in Heaven, we NEVER pray "to" them, we "ask" them to pray together "TO JESUS." So in the event IF they really not alive in Heaven, we still did not commit any sin by merely asking someone else to pray together. If Catholic sinned by asking someone to pray together, then all Protestant also commit the same sin by asking their friends to pray together. People condemned the Catholic Church out of ignorance of the real Catholic teaching. Don't condemn blindly through hearsay, Learn what Catholic teach first before refuting. Otherwise you are just refuting "rumors" instead of the real teaching.
how ridiculous, the guys ask is Smith a common Mormon name? Smith is a last name of many people not Mormon. Has he forgot god commanded people to replenish the earth and Catholics believe being single is better. Elder you were supposed to pray that way to instead of formal. I hope you find your way back because God says Faith without works is dead. reading your bible is works, prayng is a works, charity is a works and so you are wrong. and Jesus was the example and he was baptised by someone with aaronic priesthood and who has that beside Jews and LDS. If you had stayed faithful you would have learned that was what you didn't know and needed to learn. Many many LDS have that but they have lost their spirituality and more rigid. Mormons are christian. one who follows christ. Catholic are , methodist, southern baptist, 1 baptist all different coptic christianexed the Roman catholics because they beleive like the mormons and so do the antibaptist. and did you leave Catholicism because they went through the earth and said catholic or die they are a culture too? Did you know that Peter could not have passed the his priesthood when he was dead unless he came back after he was dead and they never claim he came back after death.
Thomas Smith, I want to thank you for having the courage to say YES to JESUS! Also for letting Macus Grodi (a convert himself) interview you. The Lord has touched your ❤heart and by you giving your testimony, hopefully now more people will fear less and say YES to Jesus...
After all Jesus said:
" Be not afraid" Well,
Thomas.... keep seeking truth so that you may continue to lead them to the one whom is truth.....JESUS!
thank you !😌
I, myself, was a Mormon.
Well I pray for them all but the Lord has laid him on my heart.
thank you Sir Thomas for revailing Mormonism's belief.
Watching and hearing these testimonys , Jesus will come back to take us home to heaven when every human beings are in one faith .Praise God. P. N. G.
The TRUTH can be scary, indeed !
OddGhoulOut BOTH BELIEFS ARE OF DOCTRINES OF DEVILS
Open your heart which God has created in you and hear Him talking through this wonderful Men.
It takes courage to leave the warm cocoon of religious and family culture.
Good that Thomas found his way out of the labyrinth
seems as if his need for religious authority
has filled the deeper need
one mans gnosis
another's
religion
And heres my story...."
I must admit I still have a lot of issues. Praying to Mary & saints, confession, the rosery thing.
Let's see where my road ends up.
Good luck and trust your instincs
Hi Tim,
First let me say.
Good on you - keep looking for answers!
I fully intend to continue learning about the Catholic Church.
cuinn837 I'm a craddle catholic, and yet only recently I began really learning about my faith.
Thank you, Juliana.
cuinn Human mind can be swayed to believe wrongly.
From the Book of Mormon --
1. "doctrine of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost, which is one God, without end."
2. " And the honor be to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Ghost, which is one God. Amen."
3. " unto the Father, and unto the Son, and unto the Holy Ghost, which are one God"
However, we do not accept the Nicene Creed of the "one substance entity" but what Christ taught in the Bibole John 17:19-23.
cdowis you should be more forthright about what Mormon teachings actually are.
ADAM YOU ARE A LIAR DID YOUR CHURCH SAY IT IS OK TO DO THAT?
cuinn I came from a Baptist Church I entered into Catholic Church when I saw in Isaiah 22 authority office keys Matthew 6 16 18 I realized Simon named changed by Jesus to Peter who was Jewish would understand what Messiah was saying.

18And now I say to you: You are Peter (or Rock) and on this rock I will build MY CHURCH; and never will the powers of death overcome it,
19 I will give you the keys of the kingdom of heaven, and what you bind on earth shall be bound in heaven, and what you unbind on earth shall be unbound in heaven."
JESUS SAID TO PETER, "MY CHURCH" not "MY CHURCHES".Read bet. the lines
Cecilia Degan I hope you are not making a claim for the satanic, anti-Christian catholic cult here!
Wow, i guess paul was a PROTESTANT!

protestantism holds as much validity as mormonism. Mormons are fully realized protestants. They are your baby. I agree mormons are wrong but so are you.
St. Jerome ok mr. We are the only true church, the only true Christians, listen to us, we are right, ypu are wrong and I wont listen to you. Welcome to the world of cults
History proves this point

SO, Calvary, Jesus didn't say MY CHURCHES, but only said"MY CHURCH".Read between the lines, ok?
If it wasn't my nap time I would digress, but the irony of this
"Journey Home" segment is the pot calling the kettle black so to say.
The early church was not Catholic.
st Antioch was the first to call the early Christians catholic before 300 a.d. but unfortunately there was a split in around 1000 a.d. for the east othodox and west catholic church! I believe the Catholic Church is most in line with the early Christians . although Martin Luther may have had good reason to leave the Catholic Church at the time...his church(s) are definitely not the one true church that God promises to be with!
The "early church" was also NOT LDS. (Mormon).
That's your choice.
a very mixed up young man
you lie so much JS never said that. Like he said he knew us before we were in the womb and if he had scriptures about who would come they must have existed and been trained before you came.
at least you are Christian.....BARELY!
you miss so many things on how the catholic church prays to others than God the father and Jesus christ they pray to apostles and other they claim to be saints light candles to them. yet you blame the mormons for having more than one god. no one gets to the father but thorugh Christ and so not praying to other dead people is wrong. you leave out how a person is made through egg and sperm and yet deny that Jesus came through a womb egg that was fertilized or why didn't god just leave a baby on the bed to Mary? if it wasn't by that way then how how was it? how did Jesus have brothers so did mary have them with Joseph after Jesus or before jesus or was Joseph married before Mary?
Even if we do get it wrong, they are not alive in Heaven, we NEVER pray "to" them, we "ask" them to pray together "TO JESUS."
So in the event IF they really not alive in Heaven, we still did not commit any sin by merely asking someone else to pray together.
So, he realized he was being fooled by Mormonism then went to be fooled by Christianity?
how ridiculous, the guys ask is Smith a common Mormon name?
