Don’t you find the lack of excessive detail is what gives the image its character? I think the execution of this portrait is incredible. There is so much depth. You cannot hope to define detailed structures with this medium but here she shows there’s no need to
Wow, i'm blown away at how quickly you turned the beginning smudges into a masterpiece. I've been nervous to even try using my newly bought soft pastels- so I was looking for inspiration and you've really helped. My take away is just be delicate and calm, it'll all come together somehow😄So much substance in such a short video, thank you!
Wowwwww!!!!!! You are so amazing that you can make art with any art supply. I've heard that a lot of people find soft pastels kind of hard to work with but you are oh so amazing. Your blending is gorgeous and makes the piece look just like human skin. Your channel deserves a million subscribers! 😊😊💖💖👏👏 This belongs in a museum.
I was so excited for this video and the whole artwork since you posted about it on the community tab. Love the way you worked with this medium. I've never tried pastels and thought about buying exactly those of Paul rubens to try it out. I always thought pastels were really messy and dirty but you really showed how beautiful they can be. Tysm for the video
Hi Cy! I really would recommend this especially if you paint a lot of portraits. The colors available are just incredible. I hope you’ll like them too!
you did a fantastic job! I just bought the course with your link, it was$6.99 because of cyber Monday. What paper did you use for this portrait? Thank you.
I think this is the most satisfying video you've made. Sooo nice seeing you put the pure pigments of the pastels down 😍 Your work with the soft pastels and with the oil paint gives the illusion that you've been working with those mediums longer than you have. Amazing job! PS. Love that movie :)
The painting turned out lovely! I'm just wondering what paper you used. It looks like cold press watercolor paper, but the amount of layers you got I've only ever seen accomplished with sanded papers, so I'd appreciate some clarification 😅
The piece turned out so beautiful 🥺 if you have the time, and only if you want to, can you compare any cheap soft pastels to the paul Reubens one? Again, only if you want to ^^ no pressure ❤️
Why is it learning with ypur video is much easier than the videos i've seen before from others? I've learned gouache and watercolor from you.. Now, i have learned soft pastels from you.. I have followed so many soft pastel youtuber but only yours is the most beginner friendly...
If you need to do fine blending work with pastels, I’ve found it’s helpful to use a tortillon* … same as with charcoals! Especially when you’re doing features, around the lips and eyes. *Also called a “blending stump.”
I never would have thought you could get so much detail with soft pastels... this portrait turned out amazing, great job for your first real piece with this medium!
Your being too hard on yourself. Your drawing skills support you in any medium. Soft pastels are meant to look drawn or painted. It should look loose. Don’t use pencils . Too many over blend the life from the work. I love this piece as well.
It's sooo good po 😍👏 Btw, pastel pencils do exist! But I only know Conte à Paris brand since I own one. They have few range of colors available in the Philippines.
Hey there! I'm doing a survey on painters who use pastels as a medium, and I was wondering if you ever get tired hands/grip fatigue from using pastels for an extended period of time?
Hi Sayan! I used the SMLT art cold pressed watercolor paper, it's pure cotton and i don't think it's meant fo pastels but it's the only textured paper i had with me
I have a set of soft pastels and a set of oil pastels, and I never really used them because I did not like using my fingers (I dislike the way it feels), so I bought some tortillons but they wore away really quickly. So I ended up shelving pastels. What other blending techniques do they recommend?
I'm not a big fan of soft pastels, I like more pan pastels and nupastels personally. But I'm always amazed at what artists can create with just some sticks of color and the right surface for them to go on. The thumbnail made me swear at first that surely it was a gouache piece, but then I saw the pastel sticks on the side! Well done!
Hey! You are one of my favourite artists here on TH-cam, and I just wanted to say that I appreciate all that you do. I am always looking out for your new videos. This one really gets me because I began learning soft pastels a few years ago and they're so difficult! I haven't had any success with soft pastel portraits. Thank you for sharing!
I so much enjoyed watching you create this piece and also your narration. I loved the music choice as well. Lately, I've been researching soft pastels and am looking forward to seriously trying the medium. I will definitely get the Domestika course. It seems that several credible sources recommend the LuxArchival Professional sanded art paper as the #1 choice, and I love Lisa at Lachri Fine Art's non-toxic choice & technique for applying fixative to soft pastels. Check out the Albert Handel interview here on YT from Feb 2012. I hope you do more soft pastel pieces--I think this one turned out very nicely.
Amazing work! Thank you very much for the wonderful picture! Unfortunately, I don't understand what you say, but I see a picture and its creation, your beautiful hands, the small miracle of your soul in a beautiful picture, a beautiful face in its sparkle! Greetings from Hungary, Pàl, Paul.🙂👋🙏
Soft pastels are soooo amazing to use for portraits, it's hard to do details though bec of the chunkiness 😆 Is that Cinderella? 😮
Yes it did get hard towards the end. Maybe I need to supplement with colored pencils for smaller drawings. And yes this is Cinderella 😍😍
You simply use pastel pencils for details when using soft pastels.
Tem como não ser a Cinderella? Ficou tão perfeito.
Wow, that is really beautiful!! ❤️
Don’t you find the lack of excessive detail is what gives the image its character? I think the execution of this portrait is incredible. There is so much depth. You cannot hope to define detailed structures with this medium but here she shows there’s no need to

Did you buy them by accident like I did? I had no idea something like this even existed but I’m now a believer
Don't be nervous and scared to make mistakes it's the only way you learn
Wowwwww!!!!!! You are so amazing that you can make art with any art supply. I've heard that a lot of people find soft pastels kind of hard to work with but you are oh so amazing. Umm can we talk about how she doesnt have crazy chalk dust ANYWHERE 👏🏼👏🏼when I did my piece, my bloody arms and table was a mess 🥲

Thank you, Rue 🥰🥰
This makes me wanna work with pastels even more 😖

Thank you so much! That’s an amazing compliment and yes I think the 2015 Cinderella was gorgeous
The painting turned out lovely! I'm just wondering what paper you used. It looks like cold press watercolor paper, but the amount of layers you got I've only ever seen accomplished with sanded papers, so I'd appreciate some clarification 😅
It’s the SMLT cold pressed, pure cotton watercolor paper!
I am waiting for my charcole pencils and my mungyo soft pastels😊
The piece turned out so beautiful 🥺 if you have the time, and only if you want to, can you compare any cheap soft pastels to the paul Reubens one? Again, only if you want to ^^ no pressure ❤️
Which paper do you use
Bellissimo😍💓 adoro come lavori con naturalezza i pastello👏
Her: this is my first time
Also her : nails it
Actually soft pastels can be more "dangerous" than oil paint. Which by the way, it's not. Solvents are, and you don't have to use solvents
Why is it learning with ypur video is much easier than the videos i've seen before from others? I've learned gouache and watercolor from you.. Now, i have learned soft pastels from you.. I have followed so many soft pastel youtuber but only yours is the most beginner friendly...
I'm like this 😲🤯Shocked. You are very talented, you got beautiful piece of art with soft pastels. Amazing☆♡
Just beautiful 💕
Amazing job.

What paper is this?
I never would have thought you could get so much detail with soft pastels... this portrait turned out amazing, great job for your first real piece with this medium!

Beatiful. Amazing. Incredible.

Hello. Could you please add Türkçe subtitles to your videos? finding subtitles is torture
Got here early to sit in the front row 🇺🇸
It's sooo good po 😍👏 Btw, pastel pencils do exist! But I only know Conte à Paris brand since I own one. They have few range of colors available in the Philippines.
Never stop
Putting fixative on pastel painting kind of dulls the vibrations, are there any other options?
Thanks fot the vídeo is a very good job. I don’t speak english, but, coludirse you say what kind of paper use? Thank you
This is the definition of trust the process! At first it felt intimidating to start but as I continued watching my worries went away lol
Hey there! I'm doing a survey on painters who use pastels as a medium, and I was wondering if you ever get tired hands/grip fatigue from using pastels for an extended period of time?
Me: You're a good artist.
Paul Rubens: I know you are, but what am I?
Hello Ham rib Art. How are you doing? Can you review the soft artist grade pastels from mungyo? If you do thank you. I love you,re pastel portret
Pastels are so awesome. But they are expensive, and hurt my fingers 😊
It would be helpful if you mentioned the paper and it's gsm. Thank You. Your art is amazing.
Hi Sayan! I used the SMLT art cold pressed watercolor paper, it's pure cotton and i don't think it's meant fo pastels but it's the only textured paper i had with me
What type of varnish do you use? It's a question, thank you for your video and your answer.

Hello HamRib Art. Use a hairspray instead of a fixative spray it helped me so mutch whit my soft pastels
Not a single green in this box?!
And a pretty impressive picture.
I have a set of soft pastels and a set of oil pastels, and I never really used them because I did not like using my fingers (I dislike the way it feels), so I bought some tortillons but they wore away really quickly. So I ended up shelving pastels. What other blending techniques do they recommend?
You can try Sofft tools ( that's how you write it, it's a brand), cotton swabs, a tissue, wearing gloves
I admire that you are not scared of dark colors!
This is so amazing and beautiful. I love this video ❤❤❤

Does she save any of her live videos...?
Get some pastel pencils to go with the set. They’re better for doing detail work.
Is there a course or tutorial to learn how o draw THIS PIECE you do in this video?
Are you lebanese? Your slight accent reminds me of that
Oh mann seeing you trying all these new media makes me want to try them as well, but I also haven’t mastered anything yet so maybe not 😂
