    I’m still having trouble realising that, even though the game story ‘ended’ the game itself isn’t finished! Far from it! There’s still so much to come. 🤩 Will it be possible to explore the past again? I’m biased, any excuse for more Emet-Selch lol. 😅 But... if that doesn’t happen, it’s ok. 😁 Please give us more amazing characters SquareEnix! New lands. New peoples of Eorzea. More nations to save. 🤣 They themselves have set the bar high! Honestly, I’ll welcome it all! ❤️ Thank you guys for feeding my wild imagination lol. Stay safe. ❤️

    I think adding an additional zone or two at some point during the patches would be really cool. Getting to a new zone is one of my favorite parts of the game in general, would be nice to get that at some point during the patch cycle. Also a great way to add new materials for gathering, and could have some optional lore in sidequests pertaining to whatever happens in the patch MSQ.

    So listening to Brian made me think of an idea for a possible "starter zone" for new players to learn the game's basics in 7.0.
    New players could start on a reflction on which the balance has been broken by the Ascians. Their character would play in a way similar to how we play as NPCs, with a toolkit specific to the job selected at character creation, to help gettimg a taste of how it works.
    They would get to help people out, fight monsters and learn the basic game mechanics, UI stuff and inventory management. As the player progress, things keeps getting worse until reaching the breaking point where the rejoining occurs and the player's soul merges with the WoL on the source as the 7th umbral calamity unfolds. From there you could opt to either have a recap of the ARR - EW saga and dive straight into saga #2, or to start from the very beginning.
    I highly doubt they would set up something like this, but I feel it would be an interestimg way of setting up.

    • @ohnosmoarlulcatz
      @ohnosmoarlulcatz 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It would be difficult to have another calamity as they were artificially created by the Ascians. What new enemy could pose a threat like that with the ability to transcend the Sundering? You would need another Unsundered from an outside source and they kind of killed that possibility with Endwalker since it brought a close to the dragons and Omega as well.

      @@ohnosmoarlulcatz Think Avrax is talking about the 7th Umbral Calamity (Bahamut), so it is a possibility, and an amazing one at that. I prefer that to the current level 1 - 15 beginning.

    • @avrax3497
      @avrax3497 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I was thinking of Bahamut's calamity yeah. I agree that considering where we are now we probably won't hear about the rejoining anymore, or at least for quite some time, which is why this idea could only work if the events takes place on the reflection that got absorbed between 1.0 and 2.0.
      I'd be very surprised if that ever happens, but I feel it could be a nice way of presenting the concept to new players if SE eventually turns ARR - EW into optional content to allow people to catch up more easily.

    My money says 7.0 is going to be an ARR-style thing. New characters can either start in 2.0 or 7.0. Those that start in 7.0 didn't save the world but become warriors of light (or some eqivalent) by halfway through the game. Like in Endwalker, there will be different scenes when a rookie meets Thancred for the first time as opposed to when a veteran runs into their old buddy. 7.0 will probably use a different client, with freshly built and optimized code, and the sudden MASSIVE drop in ambient aether can easily explain a level squish.

    • @Chaals
      @Chaals 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      That would be cool but let's be real, they're not going to make a new client with brand new code. It would cost too much money and time to do something like that which wouldn't really increase their profits. Reason being is they've literally halted sales of FFXIV due to server overload, meaning they care more about ongoing subscriptions more than new sales. While it would potentially draw more people in, they've shown more interest in keeping current subscribers and current subscribers will get the new expansions regardless of an overhaul. While the "spare no expense" mantra may be a thing, Square Enix is still a business and optimizing profits is their goal. I wouldn't get my hopes up.

      @Calemyr 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@Chaals Forgive me for disagreeing, but there are a few points worth noting.
      One, the story is at a perfect reset point, allowing for gameplay shifts in a new expansion.
      Two, they suddenly have a lot of money and Yoshi-P is a genuine rockstar with his bosses.
      Three, Yoshi-P has lamented constantly how he regrets multiple design issues, such as Arcanist and jobs in general, as well as the legacy spaghetti code that is strangling the game.
      Four, the current code base is ten years old and a horrid amalgamation of 1.0 legacy code and hurried 2.0 code.
      Five, they are talking openly about keeping the game running for a further ten years. Thus the Stat squish and Exp squish we just got.
      Six, they just got done with almost every major plot in the game, earning them a maximum window for development time.
      Put this all together and there will never be a better time to do this. Unless you honestly believe they are eager to try to go another decade on horribly outdated design and code.

    @ohnosmoarlulcatz 2 ปีที่แล้ว +4

    I would still consider the relic zones to be new zones even though their leveling is isolated.
    Zodiark was pretty clear in my opinion. Because of Hermes's memory wiping thing, they DIDN'T know what was the cause of the Final Days and Emet Selch explicitly says it was unknown in Shadowbringers. It isn't until Endwalker that we learn that it is essentially the collapse of aether around them. And because of how aether dense the Amaroutians were, they couldn't use the power of Dynamis like we could to counteract it. The sound could mean that they could tell that something was off.
    I still hope that the "Twelve" are the Convocation of Fourteen minus Azem and Lahabrea, the two who wandered off to do their own thing, with Elidibus taking on the role of Azemya. Would be interesting if they tried to turn themselves into primals like Zodiark and Hydaelyn did. At least I think it would make sense. If 1 Zodiark can halt the Final Days and restore Etherys, maybe 12 could do something more? And yes, that would mean that Zodiark is one of the Twelve, just under a different name (Azemya perhaps considering Elidibus turned into the primal form of the WoL).
    My over the top prediction is going to go two ways. While the story of Hydaelyn and Zodiark is over, the story of Garlemald is not. With the collapse of the Empire due to the legions surrounding and what is essentially the Eorzean Federation popping up in their place, I feel like this would be where they continue the story from. And if the Garleans join the Eorzeans as well? Wouldn't they become a massive superpower that could threaten the whole world? Surely, someone out there would take notice of this and oppose it right?
    The other is the birth of a new primal WoL. If you save the universe like the WoL, I'm sure people would start worshipping you much like a primal. And considering what we saw with King Thordan, a primal WoL that you simply can't defeat would give it something similar to the Echo while being able to Temper others would be a new kind of threat that builds upon what they did with Anima except it isn't something that can't be solved as simply as "defeat the primal".
    EDIT:
    There's also the poem that was put out by Yoshida at the beginning of the year. This one is pretty straightforward compared to last year's.
    So the moon wanes before the sun = The sun referring to Azem. This one should be pretty obvious. The moon referring to Zodiark and the other ancients like Hydaelyn. Now that they are gone, just the WoL remains.
    Its journey ended, home at last = End of the Hydaelyn and Scions presumably, allowing the WoL to return to being an adventurer.
    So look now to days ahead = So what's coming up in the future for us.
    Unfettered from our trying past = Endwalker is done along with the Hydaelyn and Zodiark storyline.

      @@zedorian6547 It's closer to what Alphinaud and Aliase feared about what would happen to Louisoix than what Elidibus did. Elidibus's WoL is more of how he saw himself and wasn't a primal that was summoned by others.

  • @XFry333X
    @XFry333X 2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

    This was such a fun conversation!!!
    I agree in that right now with 7.0 is the opportune moment to create a setup that allows new players to integrate quicker and easier without having to play 4 expansions in length of content to be "current" or "endgame" or "caught up with my friends who've been playing x years". At some point the story length is going to get ridiculous. And its something that must be addressed.
    As for the how? I liked a lot of the ideas presented by you two. I think the Phantasy Star template is an interesting one where we have Timeline A and then the new Timeline B. For current players who have beat Timeline A (Endwalker), at the start of 7.0 or Timeline B they are funneled into this "time skip" moment or something like how Louisoix sent the WoL into the future 5 years and everyone was memory wiped of the event. Not saying a memory wipe, but somehow create enough of a narrative gap for a transition where a new player and a longtime veteran can start the new story at the same point. Perhaps with some flavor text to hint to Timeline A or something.
    Or the idea where new players come from a new city where the Scions have a base of operations and a small camp or something or they're somehow connected to the Scions, and they come to Eorzea somehow and hear "the legend of Alphinaud" or something. And because we're on this other continent with relation to the Scions new players aren't awkwardly meeting their "good old buddies" lol.
    All very interesting.
    My hope is that the new roadmap plan mentions something about technical upgrades. The haunting "spaghetti code" has been a plague for 10-years. Lets not have it be a further hinderance for another 10-years or something silly. When are we bringing in new technology? When will the major engine updates happen so we can bring XIV up to the same or better flexibility of other MMOs. Because the talking point of "XIV looks old" is already starting to happen and SE will need to prioritize a facelift within the next few years.

      I'm totally guessing at this point, but I imagine a high priority for Square Enix is figuring out (like you said) how to make the new expansion instantly accessible for new players. I find it hard to believe they'll require new players to play through all of ARR and then four gigantic expansions/patches. I think the new expansion will be more of a "new adventure" than more people think.

    What I am most worried about is people expecting the next expansion to top this one. First, that isn't a sustainable pace and secondly, EW hits so hard because of the years of build up. IF they do another multiple expansion arc we're back to the set up. The pieces must be placed on the board. It's gonna be a slower paced, world building phase. My concern is that people expecting continued emotional escalation will be disappointed and start calling "dead game" cause they don't understand that.

    • @ohnosmoarlulcatz
      @ohnosmoarlulcatz 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Part of the problem has to do with FF14's narrative structure. Outside of Shadowbringers, they're always attempting to do too much too fast. The average game seems to have something like 4 story arcs, but they don't all necessarily tie together and that is by far the greatest flaw in FF14's narrative. There's no reason that you can't make it as emotionally charged as ShB or EW, but the question is how you do something like that.
      A good example of this is in the opening act of EW where you essentially march into Garlemald and everyone hates your guts. It had crazy stakes and it was good at getting you emotionally invested. The problem was how it ended. A freaking phone call is what closes out the arc and that is the kind of deus ex machina is something that you can't have if you want a powerful narrative. What they need to do is decide on which aspect of the world they are going to focus on so they don't end up all over the place.

    I am curious about the future. One how many players are able to "fit" on the data center. ie theoretically, how large would the game community grow with one data center per region?
    Also, finishing at lvl 90 doesn't make sense, but I can't see another expansion before a "new" XIV Story arch
    But they probably will do a Destiny that after next expansion we start as a new character or time jump.

    I think once the scions lose their importance as characters within the narrative, it could be a great time to drop new players in while regarding the acts of more veteran players who lived that story with those people as legendary within a "story so far" type narrative. The concept of Zodiark wasn't a bad plan, though it was the solution for a problem they could not identify the source of. What WAS the problem, was the Ancients being deluded they could reclaim their impossible Utopian dream, and instead of trying to work towards it with their own hands, they rather give up their lives to reach iI. Zodiark, ultimately would have led to the destruction of all life on Etherys, not because of the power Zodiark commanded, but because the people where willing to give up their lives so easily.

That a thing that can’t happen in XIV as they need to write the story for the zone and make it so that it’s actually working in the frame of the expansion alone with the MSQ. Otherwise, they would make it troubling to understand if you revisit back to the zone itself

    PS: If they even try to make a XIV sequel as another Main Installment Entry (for example XVII), they will destroy instantly destroy my Favourite series of all-time (FINAL FANTASY), and taint my favourite game of all time (FINAL FANTASY XIV).
    It would be the equivalent of naming a potential FINAL FANTASY X-3 as FINAL FANTASY XVII.
    And I would blame you.

    1000 hours over 10 JRPGs.
    If someone doesn't want to, they can skip, and NG+ is there if anyone wants it in the future.

    @Work to Game...I would love to see FFXIV take a path like KOTOR and KOTOR 2. In KOTOR your character was in the typical "hero saves the day" type of story which is what we've been playing so far as the WoL. In KOTOR 2 this shifted from a grand story to something far more personal to the player character. Instead of saving the galaxy from the sith, the character instead just wanted answers to what happened to her. Why did the Jedi Council exile her from the order? Why was she cut off from the Force? It was a personal journey to find those master to get those answers. A lot of fans of the KOTOR games will say they prefer the story of the second game despite its flaws from a gameplay perspective. The story felt bigger despite it actually only centering around the character and her search for personal answers.
    How this would go forward with the WoL, I don't know the details or how it could be done but would love to see it go the direction KOTOR2 did with a more personal exploration of the character. The trap WoW fell into was following a big boss with a bigger one the next expansion. The trap is that it became less linear and progressive and more into a universe layered like an onion. The earlier portions of that game's narrative no longer have relevance of significance as they add more layers to it. So I believe that for FFXIV to avoid that trap it to, in essence, go smaller in scale with the narrative and follow KOTOR2's example. I think it would be really fun and intriguing to delve further into the personal motivations and expectations of the WoL post Endwalker than trying to find the next biggest baddie especially after what's happened up to this point. How much bigger can it get? Now's the time to go down in scope but potentially much larger in story by going to a more intimate and personal exploration of the WoL character.

    Maybe how it could work is with 7.0 release new jobs, but the previous jobs would be locked from 2.0 - 6.0 so if you wanted to play whitemage you'd need to go back in time to learn the old jobs and then you'd be starting from 0, of course they'd need to short the whole thing a lot, mainly focus on the important things and avoid every non critical quest.
    They will need to make a new start point, that's 100% for sure, it's tough enough right now to get a new player go through ARR + HW + SB + ShB + EW just to get into the current narrative.

I'm thinking that will be what the patches are about before the next expansion the best way is to end it with a time skip 1000 years into the future or the past of eorzea us and are npc friends all the main ones get sent to the future or the past to fix the world and make a brighter tomorrow so an expansion would not be the right word it would be more like final fantasy 14 part 2 or something a full on reboot is what it really needs basically making a hole new game from scratch it will have to be the biggest expansion in the history of expansions so the story can pull in players to it like the last one did. fail on this and the game is on its last legs. so in short if they try to not make a full on new game that links to the old final fantasy 14 reborn then we will see something like the past world of war craft went down after wrath of the Lich King its going to be like remaking final fantasy14 all over again if done right the world as it is now is in a patches state there is no way they can make a story that is compelling with the world if they don't go time traveling a good story for the next 10 years could slowly work up to a save the ancients and find a way to bring them to the present day with out being noticed while time jumping around to different key points in history that would be an awesome story but only if done right even then they would need to make full on Etheirys world something like what final fantasy 14 a Realm reborn launched with would be mandatory if they what to keep there number one spot talking country's different races the hole nine yards. you would keep all your item from ff14 a realm reborn but it would be in a new game Engine with better graphical fidelity when you went to the new game place he said the final days happened all at once more or less to the asiens so something like you pick up the story just after meteion flew off learning about the etherisy world of the past in full then slowly but surely as the scions try to save the asiens the present world starts to see them as villains with there old allies turning against them slowly but surely over the expansions as space and time start to collapse then they make a come back as an anti-hero that would be the story i would tell next if i was going to continue telling the story. its just to my taste because hidilyn is gone so in short your no longer the warrior of light. your just an adventurer on an Adventure. the country's right now are keeping an eye on the scions so to say it could go in that direction is a more than likely at some point.

    For FFXIV to last another 10years they really do need to change stuff up again. Like, I love the game's current systems, mechanics for the greater part of my time playing. But, the game has changed so so so much in the last 10years as is. I'd really like to see an Updated Subjob system added into XIV where we can use say something like those Quick Action(R2+R3 or L2+L3 if you're on Controller) dealios we got in Eureka for the Lost Spells, etc., to swap between Two chosen jobs on the fly. Or, even a Merit Point system being added into the game once level 99 is a thing, and we can move away from developing a Level Cap increasing system. Note, I understand both of these are highly unlikely to happen, but I would not be opposed to seeing this being introduced to the game

    Honestly if they wanted to fix the main problem with level skippers, all they would have to do is make a mandatory hall of the novice for the class upon use before they can play with other people.
    People who know the classes will breeze through it, new players will learn or get stuck until they read it and learn. There's honestly nothing worse than someone who doesn't know any of their actions in level 80+ content.

    To be fair to the long story of FFXIV- there are characters you’re still learning interesting things about from level 35 to level 90. None of the characters seem to *really* die, because they are frequently referenced, brought back as cameos, and/or have new lore attached to them.

    That's just a shitty WoW attitude to MMOs (must be at end game). As an existing player past story isn't a barrier (obviously) and alts you can just have a boost/skip. As for new players, why would you want a game with less content? If I was a new player coming into FF14 in 9.X I'd want to have a thousand hours of content sitting there waiting for me. Why the everliving hell would you want to deliberately not experience the Shadowbringers and Endwalker payoffs.
    The only real barrier is playing with friends but isn't that what alts are for?

    • @ohnosmoarlulcatz
      @ohnosmoarlulcatz 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      It's because of the constantly growing gate between the player and the endgame content. There's only a certain amount that people are willing to put up with and with Endwalker, I wouldn't be surprised if it takes someone over 1000 hours to reach the end of Endwalker if they get sidetracked. At some point, you need to lower the barrier of entry.

    For me, XIV's story was wonderful and Endwalker solidified it as my favourite entry in the series, but when it comes to the future, I will personally be unsubscribing. In Shadowbringers we had an issue with parts of the community attacking anyone who criticizes it, and lately I've been seeing the opposite with Endwalker; people attacking those who praise it. (I've literally just come from a thread claiming that anyone who enjoys is is some kind of "sick neo-nazi" apparently).
    At this point, I'd rather just go back to playing single player FF games and ignoring the community, even if the newer ones are considered poor. That being said, I hope that the more normal members of the community have a good time with wherever XIV goes from here.

    @sydniusalminia5364 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    SPOILERS AHEAD: Honestly when it comes to the time skip thing to introduce new players, there's a very easy solution. I expect we will eventually travel to Graha's failed future where we died. He's stated multiple times that he wonders about that future cut off from times flow so it likely still exists. Since we died in that world, a version of us could have "reincarnated" there through hydaelyn's will in that timeline and be a mostly blank slate but could "reawaken" memories which introduces new players to old characters. Have a quick storyline that teaches you basic mechanics, maybe a zone or something that gets you caught up. For old players, the idea of going to the future will be "Hey, we need to go to my future and we figured out if your soul inhabits a body in the future and has a connection to it, with this spell you can take control of it from here" and then you go to the future and do the xpacs content.

      Yoshi-P has said many times, and recently, that WoW was the case study they used when they designed ARR. Yoshi-P told his team to go and play other games and he namedropped WoW to learn more about the current MMO market. In fact, Gingerprime, Brian's channel, has a whole video about an interview where Yoshi-P talks about XIV's history with WoW. It's called "Without WoW there would be NO FFXIV | Yoshi-P Interview" by Gingerprime from Jun 7, 2021. It's not weird to make comparisons to WoW when Yoshi-P himself has said they took inspiration from WoW in the early days.

    Im gonna need them to completely rethink their content cycle in order for me to really want to continue with the game. ShadowBringers really left an extremely bad taste for me. The story was good and so was the Weapons storyline but thats about all I really liked. So far the Endwalker story was kinda just ShadowBringers again with a couple deviations and the new 90 dungeons really arent doing it for me (with the exception of The Dead Ends). I would try the raid but unfortunately im stuck at an ilvl that is too low and quite frankly i would rather light myself on fire instead of doing dailies or dungeon spams. I cant speak on the extremes for the same reason. Ilvl. Mind you ive been playing since 2.4ish so maybe im just burnt out on the game.
