The loss of Robin Williams was so difficult for me because I had no idea the extent of his mental suffering. The fact that he brought so much joy and laughter to the world stands in stark relief to the person we did not know. It's a cruel joke, but perhaps, even in his darkest hour, there was some comfort knowing he had made so many of us happy. I hope so.
You can see Dick trying to break Robin's mask to get to the core of the person behind the personna, but the nucleus of this whole conversation and his eventual end is that people prefer to be entertained by the image rather than know the man in all his flaws. R.I.P. Mr. Robin Williams 🙏🏽💕
The film he references around the nine-minute mark is Fritz Lang's "M", where Peter Lorre whistles "In the Hall of the Mountain King" before he kills kids.
He was a tough loss. I remember the day Mork appears on Happy Days and all my 5th grade friends were talking about it. Then Mork hit and it was a phenomenon. Then I grew up with his movies and watched him morph into a damn good actor. Then his career faded a bit to supporting roles but everyone still loved him. Then he committed suicide in a horrific way. Truly soul crushing.
I like Cavett. He's smart enough, clever enough, funny enough and a good enough talk show host. When he tried to 'compete' with Robin Williams I felt sorry for him. I didn't fully appreciate his arrogance and total lack of self awareness until I watched this clip.
John 3:16 16 For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life 1 Corinthians 15:4 “And that he was buried, and that he rose again the third day according to the scriptures Romans 10:13 13 For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved.
Something you will apparently not ever know. I am not a believer, however, I don't belittle ones that are, because if the study of the bible helps a person, they are stronger then not.@@TheDanEdwards

"He's not gone, so long as we remember him."
Watch a few interviews with Jimi Hendrix. Robin's cadence and pauses are very similar.
