I been elk hunting in the TH-cam unit for many many years. This by far seemed like the toughest series of hunts I've ever watched. Congratulations on the bull!!Any animal in that rough of country is a trophy.

New Mexico big bulls, don't like to come to the bugle. I lived and hunted NM for over 40 years before I moved to Montana. We always had better luck using cow calls. The bulls in NM are very worried about losing their cows to another bull, so unless you are right on top of them and they think they have no other choice but to fight, they will almost always move their cows off to avoied getting them stolen by another bull. That country looked very familiar to me, but a lot of NM looks alike.. Thanks guys, great video!

May I ask, have you thought of making bugle tubes in an antler/bone color? Something that could be used for raking and smacking around as well.
I get it, if it isn't thicker it'd sound plasticky clunkin around, but, like moose, I'd rather have, at least that color pallet if I'm caught bugling by an unseen bull. May be more likely to think you're another bull, give you an extra second to shoot or perhaps come in for a closer look...
I'd love to see it anyway, and wouldn't mind the extra potential weight of a thicker sidewall if it means she can be used to rake.
Over the years we've contemplated many designs. The biggest hold up is call sound quality vs something to bash a tree with, and each one has a trade off. So we've focused on the sound quality of the calls and rely on big sticks to rake. Over the years we have raked trees in where bulls could see our sticks doing work, and none have spooked because of it. Also, with the camo or earth tone tube covers, elk don't really hone in on them.
@@PhelpsGameCalls Well I ordered one of your unleashed tubes and the maverick, anxious to see how they stack up, been running the rockey mtn tubes, though haven't been impressed with the diaphragm quality control, actually like my Carltons, their cheap normal line and their natives. We'll see how the Phelps line runs now.

I love you guys and what you do, but how long was the track job for real? When a channel doesn't show the full recovery I feel they lose credibility.
We’re confused by your comment. Credibility? We recovered the bull. Whether it was a short track job or a long one isn’t really important. If you you feel it’s important, it was a normal track job in the dark. Took a while, under shitty filming conditions. We try to keep it as real as we can but cut low grade footage without sacrificing quality production value. We could have shown the “Blair Witch” footage of tracking blood in the dark with a headlamp, but it wasn’t watchable. Anyone who’s shot elk in the evening and spent anytime tracking in the dark and tried to film it would appreciate this.
