    One very important point to note about the right stick. When the drone is facing towards you, the controls are reversed from your perspective. Particularly, left will move the drone to the right and left will move the drone to the right. Similarly, forward will move the drone closer to you and back will move the drone away. This is critical when the drone is close to obstacles.
    If you are an absolute beginner. Learn on a cheap drone first. I learned on a $40 drone that had no GPS or altitude hold, everything by line of sight. It took a while but now it pays off. Learn to fly like your flying with the drone and the control reversal issue disappears. Of course if you are totally reliant on the camera for your orientation this is not so much an issue, but if the drone is close by and near obstacles, line of sight flying can be the best approach.

    Thank you for putting this together. I don’t know what it was about the drone as it would start to fly forward in the pitch would be downward. It made me nervous I thought I was doing something wrong. But as watching you, that is how the drones fly is a pictured little bit when they’re going forward. If I’m using the terms correctly. I’m charging the battery right now and headed back out again. Thank you so much for this one. I feel a lot more confident this is the second time watching this video. It really makes so much more sense.. I went to your channel to look at some of the other stuff that you had put out and well I’m on board for real. Thank you for making this so much easier for us.👊💖

    Nice video. I'm 3 weeks in with my first drone - mini 2. My muscle memory is working fine, EXCEPT when the drone is facing me, camera first. Everything on the right stick becomes opposite. Even if i know it, it will take some more practice.
    Very pedagogical video. Hope you can do some more. Excellent job!

      What helped me learning to fly RC planes back then was a rule of thumb: when you fly towards you (facing you) you move the stick into the direction the model (or drone) wants to deviate!
      So if the drone wants do deviate to the left (from your point of view!) move the stick to the left! With this rule of thumb you will get it right very soon, and then you will never have to think about it again. It helped me learning flying model planes more than 40 years ago, it will help you to controll your drone too! 😉👍

      @@bengtsoderman Another way, and the best way in my opinion though it takes some time. From by RC plane days, where things can happen quicker. Always try to think of yourself as being IN the drone. You're the pilot right? Think of yourself as being inside the drone. After a while that starts to sink in and then it becomes automatic. Hope that helps.

    Hmmm, my biggest challenge as a beginner with the Mini3 Pro is being the owner of 7 Xbox consoles and 76 years old. Xbox thumbsticks are 100% intuitive to me - I "see" and I go there without thinking. The RC sticks can't be mapped for flying 3D space with the same stick inputs. I'll get there with practice, but it would help if I could just invert the Y axis.

    I have had a Mini 2 for a few months now but haven't flown too much due to bad weather over the winter. As with all of your videos, I found this tutorial very helpful. The one thing I found confusing, being old and not part of the Xbox generation, was working out which way the drone was facing when it was up in the air. If it is flying towards you, all the controls are reversed...!!! I have managed to sort this out with practice and looking at the direction arrow.

    Actually I learned the hard way the other day, the first thing you should do is check the wind speed. Went for my usual rip in my neighborhood and for the first time the drone just kept drifting further and further away. Nothing I could do would bring it back, the battery was depleting fast. I should have just landed it as quickly as possible however I still thought I would be able to bring it back. The drone ended up force landing a few meters from a ravine. Luckily I found it but it was a scare I would rather not repeat.

    • @TheDroneCreative
      @TheDroneCreative  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I made the same mistake as a beginner too. Flew the drone in a tailwind and when I turned to bring it back it wasn't moving. You only make that error once! ha. Glad you got your drone back safe!

  • @Falasi4
    @Falasi4 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Always good to go over the basics! I kind of forgot about the emergency stop button but it is super handy to stop fast and can actually stop the drone faster than manual.
    Reminder to always check and reconfigure the return to home altitude after any firmware updates.
    Always listen (if your drone has it) for the "Home Point Updated" message before leaving the home point or it may set mid-flight and return to home somewhere unexpected.

    • @TheDroneCreative
      @TheDroneCreative  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The emergency stop button comes in super handy when someone comes over to talk to you mid-flight! Appreciate your ongoing support!

    Somewhat confused here. What difference, in terms of drone response, is there between using the’pause’ button (or emergency stop as you prefer to call it) and simply letting go of the control sticks. I think a total beginner would find it much easier to let go of the sticks rather than pressing a button which involves yet another move. Or am I missing something blindingly obvious here?

    • @TheDroneCreative
      @TheDroneCreative  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Apparently the drone will stop much faster if you use the pause button that if you just let go of the sticks.

    Hey Mathew,
    I know you have the Mini 2 and I'm going to assume you have/had the Mini 1/SE. So I had an interesting problem the other day whilst flying my mini 1.
    1st. My remote is in the standard factory configuration that is left stick for going up and down.
    So, here is the problem. I had just taken off, hovering at about 10ft for a couple of seconds as normal. But when I pressed the left stick forward to increase height, not only did the mini 1 start climbing but also started flying forward. At the time I had about 15 satellites, and I wasn't touching the right stick.
    Have you ever had/heard this happening. I do have the latest firmware for the drone and the controller
