As a social worker, watching the scene where the child ‘disclosed’ the abuse, made me want to scream at the screen in frustration (at the nursery staff, not the child - of course). Putting words in a child’s mouth is so not the right way to question them. I have no idea what sort of safeguarding training goes on in other countries but in the UK, a judge would be very critical of that sort of ‘evidence’. We don’t really get specific training in this area but most social workers know to ask open questions. We try to establish a sense of consistency, time and place (remaining empathic, but at the same time neutral in the sense of not wanting a child to think we approve or disapprove of what they are saying). Children say these things for lots of reasons and it’s up to us to try to establish if that reason is because it actually happened, not to assume that’s the case automatically. Despite the aforementioned frustration, this was such a beautiful and heartbreaking film. The performances were stunning from both the adult and child cast. One that’ll stay with me.

As a psychology student that also blew my mind, clearly the social worker and the director did a terrible job at that interview, they are the ones to blame really. Lucas should sue the goverment.

Absolutely. Remember the first man the kindergarten principal calls in? Remember the questions he asked Klara? "Did white stuff come out Lucas' willy?" This type of questions end up leading a child into admitting and confessing things that could be false. This is a very dangerous trap many investigators fall into. I believe the best approach is for an investigator to be as vague as possible and allow the child to tell her/his story without giving the child information that would otherwise not know.
A more sensible question to test Klara's honesty would have been "did blue stuff come out Lucas' willy?" If she answered "yes" then we would know Klara is lying.
Another mistake is to allow time for the gossip and panic to spread, and create/establish its own narrative. This is why in cases such as these it is best if you isolate the children from each other, and carefully question them separately. Then compare their stories and see whether they all agree.
Some parents/investigators seek to reward children as they offer more info. For example: "Tell me if Lucas showed you his willy, and we will go get ice cream."
Well of course the child will most likely agree that Lucas showed his willy.
As far as the plot is concerned, I found it very strange that Klara's brother did not come forward to confess he showed Klara the adult stuff on his tablet. Did he forget? Was he too embarrassed to tell his parents? Or perhaps he thought it was irrelevant? It doesn't matter. The right thing would have been for him to immediately tell his parents that he acted foolishly and showed Klara adult images.

We do get this sort of training in Denmark aswell, and it is a heavily discussed subject during our education. We even have exams on what the correct thing to do is in these sort of situations, just to make it clear. This movie purposely shows the importance of said training in these sort of situations, and just how badly it can go if it isn't handled correctly. Becuse as they mention in the interview it not does not only affects the workers but also in very large parts the child.

This movie made me feel like the kid's revelation wasn't a lie and in fact kept me sort of waiting to find out who did it, or whether the whole child abuse episode even happened and someone forced the kid to lie for them with threats.
Near the end of the film, the kid confuses his father for the teacher, which also reinforced the idea that it was actually the father that did it all along and tried to frame his friend with it.
I know this isn't at all the case and regardless the movie was funny as hell at first, absolutely adored the teacher's company and hanging with them having beers. God knows not enough of that is happening nowadays with the pandemic.
I also loved the teacher's treatment to the kids, made me want to be like that too when I am older, even if I don't have kids of my own... And of course, I was just as captivated as I was amused throught the movie after the kid's revelation. Fantastic, terrific film I would recommend to anyone.
