I'm an appraiser and I saw a scam where the Realtor/investor bought a few homes in the same area, fixed them up, sold them for cash to straw buyers. Then the borrowers would re-finance using the other homes as comps. The loans would then go into default and the borrowers would head back to Mexico.
It was a learning experience for him so he had to shut up and listen. So he know what to look out for when his doing real estate which I'm sure his doing on a side
