I have a different brand of a similar guitar that costs 2x and it has so much ka‐boom I consider it worthless for finger picking and I don't like the tone. Maybe it's the pickups or my amp. Even though mine is not a Heritage nor a Gibson, I think Gibsons also have the same ka-boom problem as mine. To my ears, even Chet Atkins never sounded as good as Doyle Dykes in this video when he was with Gibson. So, maybe it's the pickups in my guitar or my amp that gives my guitar the sorry tone it has. Maybe I should try a different amp, maybe a VOX. I see what looks like a vintage VOX in the background but it doesn't sound like one to me. (When people demo their gear they forget that all the parts need to be spelled out). Anyway, I think Doyle made this heritage guitar thru whatever amp or pro tools he used sound as good or better than any guitar that I have ever heard him play. Maybe I need to try a Heritage

I wanted to know what amp he was playing as well... no, it wasn't the Vox, there was a small Fender Combo behind him... looking like a Fender Princeton Reverb... at 6:36 maybe 6:37 Doyle leans to his right and you can see the indicator lamp and the script ...both lines of the script are justified to the rightmost side... sooo yeah Princeton Reverb amp is what he is playing there :-)

Gibson Humbuckers just never have the high-fidelity wide-band sound that Gretsch/Butts filtertrons do. (Even Les went to that lo -mpedence set up that sounded , to me like filtertrons)

  • @thebilsproject

    better than gibson

Now that he’s warmed up, maybe he will play something. (But seriously I think Mr. Dykes is a musical genius.)

Doyle says at his seminars " my favorite chord is a G sus ". It's never made sense to me why so many credit mythology for talent...
