Thank you for all your videos and making my day(s) seem so serious and to learn to laugh at unimportant things. :)
I absolutely love this! I imagined sewing it on the short ends only and using it as a trash catcher for all my snippets of thread and fabric while sewing. The elastic could be made to fit around the machine, and it could hang off the table edge. 😊 Great project, as always lady! Stay happy!

This is the 2nd of your tutorials I've watched Chelsea. I just love your infectious personality. It goes with the bright colours of the fabrics you choose. Love your easy, cost effective projects. Thanks for brightening my day.
what a lovely wedding story. My husband and I were first married in a judges chambers at a courthouse in 1996, alone, just us. At Christmas 2020 he asked me to do it again for our 25th anniversary on April 1st 2021. We started planning a small but beautiful gathering but it never happened. I lost him on January 30th 2021 to lymphoma that we found out about on January 16th. I love sunflowers too. Thank you for bringing a little brightness to my days.
Your loss brings tears to my eyes because the similarity of our stories my love and I were also married alone in a judge's Chambers at a courthouse. It was different years but we share the April 1st anniversary. We will carry our love for them and their memories in our hearts forever . God bless you and help you through this very difficult time
Another idea would be to buy the little box of diaper disposal bags from the baby aisle at Dollar Tree. They could probably fit in the one placemat size trash collector. Easy, peasy...just tie the bag closed and toss it. The bonus is that they are baby powder scented!
I live in a retirement community. This would be great for golf carts. Maybe a large washer or something with a little weight between the fabric and plastic to keep it from blowing around as you drive the cart? Hmmmmm...
I've been sewing for a long time....I love, love, love easy projects. I give handmade gifts for every occasion and my friends never know if it took me a week to make something or 15 minutes....and I never tell😁. Oh ...I was born in Harrisburg and know the market you mentioned.😁
Love watching you create and teach!!! You are a wonderful teacher, and I appreciate you sharing your gifts with me!! ❤ I also love the coverups you wear. Are they hard to make? I'd love to know how!!
SUBSCRIBED because you seem like you would be a happy friend that happens to be knowledgeable in sewing! 😃I’m 58 yrs old & decided to start taking sewing lessons😄 I start next week🎉I’m excited!
I'm 56 and decided to pull out my sewing machine that my son bought me 10 years ago that I've not used. I haven't sewn since I was a teenager. I can't wait to try some of these projects ❤ Here's to us late bloomers 💐
I absolutely love your curls! As a curly girl myself, I get the very real struggle of wild curl days when they have a mind of their own. LOL 😂 My bridesmaids and I did the same thing for my wedding with bouquets from our local grocer. I loved my homemade wildflower bouquet. 💐 ❤ Thanks for another fun project!
Unless you have a straight stitch only machine, you can use one of the many decorative stitches to decorate the outside of the placemats. My Singer basic has a total of 34 stitches. So if you can't find the pretty placemat you like, buy one that has a pretty "back" and make it the front. Get some pretty colored thread and go for it. A simple chicken scratch stitch meandering all over the plain "back" will look cute.
Don’t forget that thrift stores often have sheets, pillowcases, and other unconventional sewing items for cheap. BTW my DT said that fall and Thanksgiving items are due July 25 or thereabouts!
I’ve searched for YEARS to find a vehicle garbage bag!!! Augh!!! Now this was a no brainer, except I obviously didn’t think of this! I did a couple different things: I bought a yard or so of Pellon 102 Vinyl-fuse vs using shower curtain. Doesn’t slide, easy to sew, a bit more $$ but worth it for me. Instead of using elastic, which over time stretches, losing the elasticity… especially in a heated and freezing vehicle! I’m using the little hanging hook which come on the mats, the item usually hangs on this hook in the store. Repurposed and no extra charge! I’ll hang it from the headrest post. Just my twists making it mine in my sewing room where I reign! 👑👸
I love your enthusiasm and smile. Sewing is having fun and learning new things. I appreciate your doing projects for beginners(of which I am not). Everyone needs a starting place to build their skills. Thanks
It's always fun to repurpose items! I use a Dollar Tree lunch bag for my vehicle trash bag. Placemats also make into great pencil bags or cosmetic bags. Excellent job explaining and demonstrating the assembly process. Love your enthusiasm! 💜
I agree with everyone you always brighten my day and help me feel like I can make things. I love sunflowers also hopefully there will be some left when I get there. Love the idea of elastic but think I would make a bigger one with enough elastic to go around the center piece in our truck so it is easier to reach on travel days( full time RVers). Thank you!
Girl you rock,,,my grand girl 💞 just said (meimei, will you make me a garbage 🗑️ can for my car?) thanks for sharing this and all your ideas 💡,talent and time, blessings from Baton Rouge Louisiana
Unspoken challenge accepted...now I have to go to Dollar Tree and make this and about a dozen coordinating pieces...lol I saw a tissue box holder online that hangs behind the headrest and thought good idea ...now I have reason to make both projects and maybe matching velcroed seat belt covers...
Girl, you had me at 2 Dollar Tree's buying stuff to make oven door towels and bags,😂I'm so excited, I'm already a crafty person. I made most of my kids clothes when they were small and I enjoy sewing so i'm excited about this 🎉
Fantastic idea 💡 ... The Dollar Tree where I live don't have any of these shower curtains . But, I absolutely love the "Trashy can." Plus, you make sewing fun 😊
I'm sorry, but when you said, "I'm totally doing that for my next tutorial," regarding embroidering the project, I almost lost my mind. That's a tutorial that would make my sewing day!!! 😉
This is such a cute project! My closest DT is a hole and bareky has anything but I'm going to be near a better one tomorrow. I did head to my local Marshalls to see what they have. I'm seeing everything with new sewing potential! Thank you!
New sub...😁 Love this idea!! Thanks so much.❤ Cool tips for anyone learning to sew. To help you sew a straight seam, especially when top-stitching and you want it to be perfect, you can place a piece of blue painters tape on the machine to give you a better visual for your seam allowance. And don't watch the needle. Watch the fabric as it lines up with the tape. Also don't push or pull your fabrics as you sew meaning allow the machine to do its job. The feed dogs will pull most fabrics at the pace required to create beautiful stitches without puckers. With very thick projects you might have to help it move along but even then I find if I let the machine pull the fabric along I get beautiful results. I've been sewing for 58 years after being taught by the most wonderful Home Economics teacher. By the time I graduated high school I was sewing my own clothing with Pendelton wool. I made slacks, lined jackets and so many skirts. You can do so much with a sewing machine if you have a good teacher...this lady is just that. So awesome!!!🎉❤
I’m so excited to find your channel! Bought a sewing machine 5 years ago and just opened it! 😳😬 Why does it seem so scary?!😂 Well, I’m definitely gonna head to dollar tree and try one of your beginner projects 🎉 You’re so pretty and fun to watch 🩷😊 Excited to start this little sewing journey!
yay!! even though I I never took a sewing class, I didn't have the fear of the Sewing Machine. (Don't even get me started about how frightened I was of my instant pot.) So I relate. I have a friend who gave me some tips and told me about some websites/TH-cam. I hope that you have the same wonderful journey with your sewing machine and that it brings you great joy.
Oh I truly hope you know how you talking to us thru your camera. Lifts us up. I’ve been working and just wham o tears come forth but I dare not let them fall… but I took a moment for me and watching you and you lifted me. I have already purchased these at the dollar store before this post. so tonight it’s Trash Bag night. :) keep them up! I love the ideas.
I'm new to your channel, but I look forward to every video. You have such a bubbly, engaging personality and I love your positive energy!!! As for the plastic liner, I'm going to try to "iron" plastic bags (trash) to make a thicker medium and use that. Wish me luck.
You might suggest obtaining fabric from other local resources like thrift store clothes, quilts, blankets, sheets, curtains, and donated fabric. Plus, you get free buttons, zippers, and accessories from the repurposed items.

Loved finding this channel, and your tutorial on this "trashy" project. I think I can adapt it to fit the console (where we put our trash bag). Your story about the flowers was really sweet. My late husband and I did a VERY low-budget wedding (actually, a no-budget wedding LOL). We got married New Year's Eve, and there were still flowers growing in our friend's yard, so we just picked roses and ferns from her yard for my bouquet. It was beautiful. No bridesmaids (married in this lady's living room), so I only needed one bouquet. (EDIT: I also liked that you didn't fuss too much about the placement of the elastic. Close counts in horseshoes, hand grenades, and trash bags. Sometimes I get too caught up in "exactness" and forget to have fun while sewing.)
Thanks for all the awesome tutorials you give! Years ago, I learned to make corners by taking one or two stitches diagonally across the corner, rather than making a 90-degree turn. Trim, then turn. For me, it makes it easier to get a nice, sharp corner.
You could also use a plastic picnic tablecloth for the lining. The flannel backing helps it stay into the trash bag.
I just have to let you know that every time I see your face I get instantly happy and immediately click on your video to watch.
