9 hours later.... They're finally on the field, so they can start thier show filled with standing around and swaying/hip thrusting (wow!). Don't forget the one legged circle hop dance that makes it's way into all the shows. How neat!!!
@VMFA115Starloric It was the day Stanford--a 41-point underdog--came into the Coliseum and beat an SC team that had the look of a national championship contender. I was at that game. The one thing I remember most was the total, utter silence of the crowd as it left the stadium.
@MrOu83 Clearly you're convinced that USC is not a good band, so I probably won't be able to convince you it is, at least by your standards. I can tell you that the TMB fills its niche well. It is adored by its fans, and is frequently contracted by alumni for weddings and parties. The band has changed since the 80s (it is 2011 btw) and the students (some of whom are pre-pro musicians and former DCI marchers) work very hard to put on an entertaining show (which is more than straight lines).
I didn't mean it as offensively as it sounded. BUT, the impact from each step makes everyone bounce up and down... unevenly. The whole point of a uniform is so that everyone looks the same. And then everyone should move the same. I understand its "your thing" its just not very smooth like you usually see bands. Do you guys play while marching like that? or is it just a march in thing?
@m0rl0rd Well said. Straight lines don't make a marching band great. It's how talented and entertaining they are. You want straight lines MrOu83, go watch the Marines march.
@quiksilver02ss Spare me, please. Being a large band does not equate to being a good band. Traveling overseas every other year or whatever, does not make you a good band. A lot of collegiate bands are 300+ most years, including Oklahoma's. USC gets notoriety for its uniforms, style and where it is located. Even some USC fans said to us when we (OU) were there in '81, "It's about time we saw a real band." THey don't even respect you. We worry about great bands: Mich, O State & TX, not USC.
stanfords band brings much more entertainment value than the usc band, the usc band plays the same boring song every second of the game, plus the Stanford band isn't just your typical boring marching band - we actually make our performances fun!!
SUC is the trojans, not the spartans, you shouldnt degrade MSU like that....also, Ohio State has the best band in the country, no contest...The Best Damn Band In The Land, i'm sure you've heard of them
ha ha... the lines might not be quite right because they are coming out of that tunnel! lol seems like part of the band doesn't make it out alive. what fun!
WHAT? nice? haha I really don't think anyone thinks this is nice. They look stupid "marching" in like that. Check out the way Texas and OSU march in to their field, this is ridiculous.
you know what? this is boring!!! the one true entertaining band in the country is the Stanford band. just listen to their half-time performances. or, just watch them. or even better, do both. whichever option you choose, you will be much more entertained than by watching people robotically march around like this.
this is not even close to the best band in the country. you have to look inside the big ten for the best band. Michigan State is the best in the country.
So u think USC band is better, bull crap they arent even in the same league as Michigan state marching band. If the had a battle between the 2 bands msu would win by a landside.
USC band regal looking???? LMAO. This band, led by its director (Bartner), has no class whatsoever. I know from firsthand experience during my time in the Pride of Oklahoma in the early 1980s. Visited the coliseum and USC band visited us in Norman. USC band has no respect among its peers in the collegiate marching band world. Probably explains why they have never been presented with the Sudler Trophy. The wisconsin band is another obnoxious band. Neither is as technically very good.
@davidpin90 Actually it's the V for "Victory" which they do whenever they play their "battle" song "Conquerer"
9 hours later....

Whenever I have a bad day I make it a point to see this video. It makes me laugh.
it is a decent downward slope, so it is pretty bouncy, but yes, we do march and play like that.

I like it. It's an HBCU-inspired style.
Can someone enlighten me as to why they marching with the peace sign?? part of routine i imagine?
@GravityGrave My bad....thanks. :)
and i forgot to mention that stanfords the superior school in all athletics
Why does this band still exist?
its that a pregnant lady on minute 1:08?
Type: band @ ut game
and also: Ohio State Marching Band Ramp Entrance
I love the USC style of marching but that was so sloppy!
not really, usc is the trojan and msu is the spartan(the BEST MASCOT in the COUNTRY!!!)

this is sparta
ha, wow, cant even keep their lines straight during their entrance....good work you mighty trojans
What the hell are they doing? That's weirder than the ostrich step I saw a band doing. LSJUMB can do straighter lines than that...

@soulgirl66 "Conquest"
ha ha... the lines might not be quite right because they are coming out of that tunnel! lol seems like part of the band doesn't make it out alive. what fun!
and where are the gamecocks now? oh right...they didn't even make the top 25
Might be more impressive if they could march in step....
left
The lines aren't straight, but so what they are so regal looking who even notices that except haters and jealous people.
Ok....in need of straight lines and being in step.
A lot of sousaphones!
you wish your drumline was as godly.. fail.
They just keep coming.... and coming.... and coming - the march of the Red Army - LOL
Wow. And not in a good way.
WHAT? nice? haha I really don't think anyone thinks this is nice. They look stupid "marching" in like that. Check out the way Texas and OSU march in to their field, this is ridiculous.
Wow, that's a pretty piss poor excuse for a college marching band. Seriously guys...straight lines. That's pretty basic.
SC lost! woot!
band @ ut game
That has to be the worst marching style ever.
