    Fantastic updates. Kudos to Olympus for making a good camera even better. The autofocus is really, really excellent. Thank you peter for the video.

    I've been testing this new firmware for about a week now and MC-20 (Kiitos Olympus Suomi). I really enjoyed the -6ev autofocus update for my workflow. It works really well even with MC-20 and 40-150 pro. Olympus just keeps on surprising us. ❤️

    So excited to install this on my mk2s. I'm primarily football shooter, so looking forward to test the new CAF and the anti flicker. Lots of night games at the moment under poor lights here in Christchurch New Zealand, so really excited...

    • @JimWattsHereNow
      @JimWattsHereNow 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Wow, after shooting a night game Friday, very impressed, with this update. The high ISO jpgs at 6400 is much better, much less noticeable noise. The anti flicker works really well, I had no sequences that had odd exposed images in them. Liking the centre preference for the CAF, helped the hit rate for in focus shots. Almost seems like the performance of writing to the SDCards has improved as well, as I haven't hit the buffer filling up, haven't tested it definitively, but certainly the impression I get.

    This update has breathed new life into my EM1 Mark 2. Most welcome feature is the Log profile! I shoot a lot of wedding so his is most welcome and doesn’t make me want to switch to GH5 as much!

    • @Serenoj69
      @Serenoj69 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I love this upgrade for sure and this is what people actually expected since they kep Em1 uptodate for so long and as much as possible in this way. It was overdue may be even. Having said that: even my GH4 is still well ahead for video compared to my EM1.2 (albeit I did not upgrade to FW 3.0). GH5 is just on another level and no Log file eases all of that. Vectorscoping, 60P, 400 Mbit. 10bit incam…
      My Oly seems to fall to well below 50Mbit while filming for instance. The Gh5 is large for a reason and that is stability which means you cannot have overheating. 400 Mbit is a good way to get it. The cooling capacity prevents it.

    • @PhoenixWright101
      @PhoenixWright101 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@Serenoj69 I prefer the looks/ergonomics of Olympus cameras, but I wish they would put as much effort into video as Panasonic does. (Is there an Olympus camera with unlimited video recording - in-camera?) The dream for me would be GH5 specs in an E-M5-size camera! ;)

    In the next firmware, I would like to have the possibility to erase or format both sd cards at once, in addition to the current way of formating/erasing them separately. So it would be card 1, card 2 or cards1+2. Small change. The version 3.0 already fixed the AF issue on the low contrasted surfaces, so remains just "Nice to have" stuff.

    I just ordered the EM1.2 with the 12-100. It will be here the day after Christmas. Hoping it already has the update installed but everything I buy new seems to be behind on the firmware. Not sure I want the 12-100 as I already have the 12-40 f2.8 but it will be a handy lens on my Pen F maybe. I plan to use the small Pen F strictly for air travel when I want to bring as little gear as possible.

    Everything just works so much better after the firmware upgrade. Pro Capture now has almost no lag. I can focus through a 10 stop ND filter on a cloudy day. I can shot a 4 second hand held exposure at 8mm. The focus point home (custom) button now works correctly and keeps the tiny focus points. I believe focus peaking is better. I would live to see love ND and Pro Capture Low with af-c for all (or at least my PanLeica 50-200) lenses. Spectacular, Olympus!!!

    One more thing that Robin Wong points out in his video on the EM1ii Firmware upgrade is that, after installing the new firmware, the camera no longer freezes while loading a large buffer of images, built up while shooting continually at one of the high-speed modes. It is apparently now possible to change settings, and even to review those images already loaded while the buffer is clearing.

Great for me where this is my main camera, and great for working pros. like you where this may be your back up camera to an EM-1X. We desperately need a "My Menu" option on the E-M1 MkII. It would save so much time.

  • @jonbarnard7186
    @jonbarnard7186 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Agree. A "my menu" would not require the processing power of the X camera, and could easily be implemented in the EM1 Mkii. Nikon has had this feature forever. I don't know why Olympus chose to leave this out. I suppose the SCP makes up to it to some extent, but it would be nice not to have to dive into the menu tree all the time. Still, I'm happy to see Olympus hasn't abandoned the EM1 users. It has restored my faith to some extent. .

    One question - what are the firmware updates on the X1??
    One suggestion - as the owner of both the mark ll & X1 it would be useful to have a joint save settings for both cameras on the pc backup section. Where applicable functions on both cameras have the same setting set, C1=C1, etc
    Currently if I decide to change how the camera functions including button function I have to change both cameras manually. Auto save would be very beneficial through the pc save function

    IMO what Oly really should concentrate about together with their co-owners Sony is a new sensor, eventual an organic sensor offering > 20 stops DR and lower noise. This is actually the second feature I use that has disappeared in a firmware update of this camera.
    With Firmware 2.2 (it could have been in 2.1, but I think it was in 2.2) last year.
    MF (Manual Focus toggle) disappeared from the option list in B Button Functions. Since I use some lenses without the clutch, it was convenient to assign it to a button, I had it to the d-pad right button, but I digress...
    This feature also still remains on the latest E-M5MkII Firmware.
    Now I am starting to be worried, what features will they forget in the next firmware?
    They are both listed features that just disappeared on a global level, so not odd special cases that only show up in esoteric scenarios.
    Both are still mentioned in the latest version of the manual (E-M1_Mark_II_MANUAL_FW30_EN), and I can only assume they should still be present.
    Page 22: "The viewfinder will not turn on when the monitor is tilted." (disappeared in 3.0)
    Page 67: MF is listed as one of the options (disappeared in 2.2, or potentially 2.1)
    I don't understand why they were not spotted in the testing and verification process before signing off on the new firmware. A simple walkthrough, verifying each listed feature should have found both.
    The reason why I haven't mentioned it to any Olympus visionary until now was that I thought it was such obvious bugs that Olympus would fix it themselves in the next release, but since it is not happening, I am starting to have some doubts about their quality control.
    If you could pass it up the chain, hopefully, it will be fixed next time!

    I have noticed a bug with Firmware 3.1, when you have extended the screen, the eye sensor still disables it when something gets close to the EVF. Previously the eye sensor got disengaged as soon as the screen is moved out from its resting position. This is really annoying at times. For instance, if you want to hold the camera low to your waist doing semi candid street shots looking from above. This is no longer possible unless you disable the eye sensor. If you have an E-M5 MKII you can compare, since it still has the original behavior.

    Thank you so much I didn't hear about this yet. Cant wait to do the update doing product photography I use stacking alot and one the main reason I switched from Sony to Olympus and its sounds like it's getting even better. Well now I have to try to sleep I am here in the USA so night time. Glad you feeling better and have to check out your shots with the new teleconverter. And love my 40-150mm pro lens so that's a good addition there too.

    What would I want in the next firmware update?
    Presently, when you review photos on the LCD screen, sometimes you get an indication of the focus point used by the AF system (a little yellow box). I would like to see this on every photo you take, I have no idea why it's on some but not all photos. I would also like that yellow box to be present on all the other (zoomed) views, at the moment it's only on the smallest thumbnail, and that's too small.

    I like Olympus but if find it a pain to have to programme the custom dials and buttons. I wish they would you could program a button for macro, and when selecting 'macro' it would set up the system with the most common defaults for users, e.g. focus peaking. The same for a Keystone button, would be good; so you select a button you want to use for Keystone and it automatically programs that button to show a grid for example. Most people I have spoken to who have given up their OMDEm1/ii have been due to the menus.

      Olympus menus are a bit messy. But it also very customizable. keystone comp. can be assigned to a button. Fron special menu B are all the options for customizing.

      Peter Forsgård Thanks Peter. Your videos are so useful. I do find it weird that when you select the manual button, the back screen may not default to manual for focus. Do you happen to know if the lens holds the settings you last used in the camera. My husband bought a used lens and the settings certainly were not the default settings when he first used it on his own camera. Sorry we are pretty new to Olympus, as we’ve both converted from Canon full frame.

    • @ForsgardPeter

      What do you mean by default settings on a lens?

    • @CAZZIEK321
      @CAZZIEK321 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Peter Forsgård I hope you’re feeling better now. I think the camera remembered the settings the lens was last used with on the previous owners lens. My husband bought it on eBay, so when he put it on his own camera some of the camera settings where not as he had set up himself. I wondered if the lens chip recalls how it was last set up or if that data is held in the camera’s chip.

    I would like the camera to create or augment the directory that the camera writes files to. I like to save my photographs by job and each subdirectory having a different job. Currently, I use my laptop to create new subdirectories. This is a feature that Nikon has had for years.

      @@ForsgardPeter -- it's a bit more cumbersome than digital, and I'm not sure what your selection of film and developing options are in Finland, but if you get a chance, especially with great weather and colorful subjects like the amusement park, grab a roll of 100-200 ISO/ASA color film, load up the film camera (check to see if it needs a new battery for the light meter) and try to capture one entire outing/excursion on one roll of film (24 or 36 exposure) -- taking the time to think about each frame of film since there are a limited number. Then get it developed and scanned at high-resolution and see what you think! You may start carrying around a film camera with your digital kit!

    I was reading some comments on DPReview about the 2X teleconverter. One of the guys there said the image quality of a 2X tc would be no better than just cropping the image. He seemed to think this was a fact of physics. Would you consider testing this?

    • @ForsgardPeter
      @ForsgardPeter  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yes, that could be a very good test. If I crop the image I will loose pixels, the image will be smaller. It had to be resized back to original size. I would say that the quality is not the same as it is with the MC-20. But lets see if I have to test that.
