Very nicely done. Thanks to you I can confidently say I will not be upgrading my ram. I have the tools, but I'd be very lost if something went wrong.

did the new memory modules already have the solder applied on them? That's normally the F'd-up part.

I understand everything until the resistor changing part, why do you need to change resistors are they changed on the board that has the original 8gb ram?

each RAM chip module requires a specific resistor value to function as pull up resistor. This varies according to manufacturer and chip model, type, etc.
In this case however, the RAM chip wouldn't be properly connected without the resistors as they would be an open circuit

@@musken ok. so how does an actuall expansion RAM slot work then? Does the motherboard have internal ajustable pull up resistors which gets adjustet to the RAM module? 2nd i think the correct resisitor value corresponds to the Value of Voltage used for the RAM module. So the replacment module propably has a different voltage value than the orginal? Sorry that im confesed but for me than looks like the board is intelligent enough to adjust the voltage to the ram module but not the pull up resistor vaule, which in my mind makes not a lot of sence...
im planing to work on a ram upgrade myself, so i could clarify that, that would be awesome...

Find boardview for both of them, you can google. And, compare ;). Once you'll notice a difference, you'll know which ones you need to change :).

What do you think if you install 16GB of RAM in the MacBook air 2013 and put strap-on resistors according to the MacBook 2015, will it work? The i5 4250U processor supports 16GB according to the Intel website

not about the cpu, it's about the bios that needs to know the memory type. If you don't know how to tell the bios your new memory chips, it's hopeless. And unlike DIMMs, the bios has pre-configured chips that are allowed.

An idea for you: take a cheap Android tv and upgrade ram. Most (all) Android TVs with chromecast buitin are very limited on what they do because of 1.5-2gb ram. Wish I had the skills.
