Went to school in the 70s & 80s ....and super early 90s....lived in a suburb with plenty of farms within a short driving distance ...my point ..I DID NOT LEARN ONE THING ABOUT GARDENING, AT ALL!.. Or farming, or how to clean water or anything on BASIC survival..or even as a hobby. So its very appreciated to have folks like this showing what they can about how they grow food....Public education is a complete waste of time. Thank you Presley family & all those who take the time to post things that are USEFUL. 🙂🙂

Prayers for Meagan and her family at True Grit Appalachian Ways. Her dad passed away Friday unexpectedly. Tipper, I know you all can sympathize, losing Miss Cindy a year ago. Its hard losing your loved ones but knowing they are with Jesus makes all the difference and knowing as believers we will all be reunited one day.

You did a great job this year in gardening and already planting for next year…Lee had to much problems with critters we ended up hauling away 16 in all and that did not count the deer…our peppers did real good so we are thankful for that. Did not get to watch your videos as much as I wanted. I will go back and get caught up…have enjoyed the girls. They are a blessing to watch as well as you and Matt…need prayers tonight and tomorrow. Lee, my husband is having some surgery in the morning. The Lord knows all about it . God Bless You all.

Just my humble opinion but I feel like between having two babies added to the family, Granny being so sick, starting a new garden that had to be turned over for the first time in ages, the dry hot weather and helping Corie and Austin move into their new home y'all accomplished a huge bit and still got some things put up for winter. Wore me out just typing all you've done. Think many of us marvel that you did all while including us in your lives with so many beautiful videos.

My husband was telling my Mom that his Papaw would section off a smaller patch of his big garden for his melon patch. He dug down and removed most of the dirt and replaced it with sand. He noticed most melons are grown in the deep south where they have very sandy soil. He grew big, full watermelons in Eastern Kentucky.

This reminds me of when my granddad, Big Pop, would take us down to the garden to dig taters. Him, in his overalls and hat, would stick a pitchfork in the ground and turn up the taters. Us kids would scramble around and put them in a bushel basket. Great memory♥️

I heard the buzzing sound a few times on the video what mother-in-law used to call a steady bee 🐝 I highly recommend Matt wear safety glasses over his glasses while weed eating... I learned the hard way after my first pair were nicked while mowing .... Not everyone can wear Transitioning lenses. I've had two family members that couldn't wear them. I always buy myself two pairs of glasses. I bought a sunglass clip-on to wear on my extra pair now. I know I've rambled on about the glasses. But they're not cheap for sure. Thanks for sharing another day of your lives as you Celebrate Appalachia. Praying and Blessed! 🤗🙏💕🌄

We planted alfalfa as a cover crop here in Washington State & it worked very well at enriching our soil. It fixes nitrogen & breaks up the soil nicely. It never gets big enough for hay as it's cool & rainy, so will just till it under & I can't begin to say the wonders it does for our soil. Well worth the effort.

I was mowing last week and the weeds get as tall as me within a week( I am five- four, the sticker weeds I usually push to the ground with my foot and mow them up( try pulling those stickers go right thru my glove. The thing is, I guess doing that was a huge bullfrogs saving grace, imagine mowing and go to take a step and there is a huge frog looking up at you😂😂 He was a keeper, made sure to put him back in the rock bed. I was so glad he did not get harmed, but the yard was full of frogs that day.

I fully understand about adjusting to glasses. Every year the eye dr prescribes a new pair of bifocals or progressive lenses, and I still stumble around, can't look down or I get disoriented, especially in scanning shelves for what I'm looking for in grocery stores, or big open spaces, like a parking lot, I weave back and forth. I am beginning to believe my Dollar Tree glasses serve me just as well. Your Potato harvest was good. My tomato bushes turned into trees with very few fruit on them, due to heat and inconsistent watering I had two bell peppers from 4 plants all summer, and now they are loaded with peppers and blooms after that tropical storm dumped so much rain. Oh well, maybe next year. It will be here before we know it. Have a blessed week. Enjoyed sitting with you in Appalachia.

The warm incandescent bulbs are what I loved, that warm glow....however, we moved to an old family farmhouse that is dark as all get out. I switched to LED daylight for my kitchen, bathrooms and main room lights, and have warmer bulbs in strategic lamps for when I want a cozy glow and lots of light is not needed. Man, not only do I see a ton better, but it all but cured my winter blues. Having LED 100 wat equivalent bulbs in my kitchen, and living spaces most of the time really helped give the feel of more daylight in the home, and the cooler light gives me truer color for cooking and my crafting. My houseplants also love the light and grow better.

When I break new ground for garden, I have had really good luck by putting down cardboard and then about a 4 inch deep layer of straw on top of the cardboard in the pathways between the rows, then soak it down until it's completely wet. Then come autumn, I clean off the rows, add more straw to the now empty rows and let it over winter. Come the next spring, I till everything in really well and make my rows where the pathways were the year before. I do the rows the same way with cardboard and straw. It's worked really well in giving me dark, rich soil and it conditions the soil very well also. After about 3 seasons, the garden soil in the spring is like chocolate cake mix. Your garden by the creek is pretty big but it might be worth it, if you can get reasonable access to straw.

I buy the variety pack of the half size popsicle. That’s enough for us to enjoy. My husband goes for the grape and the rest for me. Ever since you told all of us about Outshine, that’s all I buy now.

The 2 of you are so special together ❤ I just wish Matt would speak more. He’s always so quiet and I just know how smart he is about thing’s. It sure would be helpful information to many of us viewers ❤. Even though your home doesn’t get a lot of sunshine if you added more windows it would definitely bring more light into your home. Matt could do that because he built your house. Adding a couple windows a year would really be fantastic for both of you, the older you get. Believe me, having just more lightness in a home, is so important for vision. I’m loosing my eyesight and even though there’s no sun, it definitely adds more light. 💕🙏🙏

I got new glasses this week also. As soon as I put them on, I felt my eye pulling exactly like Matt described. I'm glad you mentioned it, I was beginning to think there was something wrong with my glasses.

I'm right there with you, Matt. I recently got my first pair of glasses and I am still getting used to them. I opted to not get the transition lenses which I regret. My eyes get so comfortable with the distance vision I have a hard time taking them off to see close up. Good luck with the transition and may God bless you and your family!

I remember one time here in Ohio we had a coop full of chickens and a weasel got all of them. It was awful. My mama was telling me the farmers almanac said a nasty winter for us. I guess we will wait and see. I try to make sure we have plenty of water and food at the house in case. It looks like you got a good crop of potatoes. God bless yall

I am like you Tipper, I actually check the tall weeds before we mow because we have little critters out there like the turtle that comes to visit or baby bunnies still tucked in their nests. I have found both of these in the tall weeds before we were going to mow. We always check first, sometimes a section at a time since it’s a big yard. I moved the turtle but mowing had to be called off where the baby bunnies were, of course!

It felt really good those cool mornings but unfortunately its back to 90's again now. We dug our taters yesterday they were ok not huge but not small. I have to get me some new glasses lol its bad you got to take glasses off to see. Lol rocking the 70's bulbs 😂. Oh gosh throwing the dirt. We have a bunch of hawks and had several foxes. Lol awaiting orders. Hope you guys have a blessed week. God bless

Had a beautiful 25C yesterday, so l spent the day composting garden and veggie beds. The average August temp here in Southern Victoria, Australia is 16C, we've been having some lovely days, a week from now it'll be Spring 🌱

I like to use greens for cover crop mustard turnips mixed. Then put in freezer or can. Time to plant garlic and bunching onions
