I had many trips on a red rattler on that line. During summer, you would sit in the doorway and enjoy the breeze. As a kid, I found it interesting watching the key ceremony (where the station master handed the key to the tracks to the driver that gave the driver the right to use the single tracks). I also remember my grandfather telling me how the line still ran a steam train for a few hours of each day after they electrified it and they did this for a while before going 100% electric only. On the weekends there would be no one working on the stations and I had a friend who lived right next to Dundas station so to pass time, we would sometimes just jump on the train and take a ride.
thank you, this is really cool. I remember the old Dundas station from when I was a kid, and it's good to have videos like this to show the history and evolution of the station!
Really enjoyed this vlog! I grew up in Rosehill and lived near the then Aston St railway crossing in Rosehill and fondly remember the red rattlers along that line. I was working at Heritage NSW (NSW Government agency) during the construction of the Parramatta light rail and many locals rang/emailed about saving certain buildings along the Clyde/Carlingford line, and the Heritage Council provided a strong recommendation of saving a number of buildings, or at least part thereof! Enjoying your channel buddy, keep up the great work!
I appreciate your sharing this information. I have fond memories of the former railway line, as my uncle owned a property near it where I spent my childhood holidays. This location was situated between Kissing Point Road in Dundas, prior to its expansion, and the railway itself. 👍👍
I used to catch the train to and from Dundas when I was a kid. When I had no money (quite often), I used to jump the fence at the back and scarper. I went to the nearby Dundas Public School from Kindy to 6th class (year 6). I also attended St. Andrews Church of England (Anglican) for many years as a child. I spent four years at Macquarie Boys High School, a bit further up Kissing Point Road. That dubious facility has been demolished. The fact that they rebuilt the old station building in the same style is commendable. It is also excellent that the old rail corridor is being used for public transport.
Oatley railway station also has a similar weatherboard building but somewhat more elaborate . Oatley station is also historically significant for various reasons .
I formerly worked for cox architecture and worked on the dundas stop which including the refurbishment of the heritage train station building. Thanks for making this video to see the job complete
Glad they kept that building it’s really cool to see the old with the new.Did you know that Carlingford was not to be the end of the line, it was to proceed much further on but like so many rail projects at the time.. things changed.
I can remember the days when this line was served by steam locos drawing dog-box (I think) carriages from the Western line to Carlingford. In those days, much of the line north from Rydalmere was through paddocks. These were later sub-divided into housing allotments and as traffic increased the steam locos were replaced by diesel railcars. The level crossing at Rydalmere went and the road bridge over the line was built. The rural character of the line changed with the increased housing and my parents moved us to Dural.
I used to live in Dundas back in about 2009 ish and got my 1st mobile phone at the shops there @1:34 behind that plaque and there was maybe still is a bottle shop on the corner there and there was a good Chinese takeaway further back up the road that had great lunch deals. Those big block of white and red units where not there back then. It was a quiet out of the way place that history had forgotten and now so much has changed there I can't recognise anything there other than the old buildings shown and a glimpse of the shops behind that history plaque
Thanks for the visit in this channel for the old Dundas building. I need help transferring my videos up hereto TH-cam. I have had trouble getting my videos from MS "Clip Champ" where the editing was done up here to TH-cam. Someone said I can come directly from the edited files to TH-cam without loading from Clip champ. can you help me, please? Sorry for interfering with your channel.
Did they lower the heritage building to match the new rail level? I assume the old rail level is similar to the new one, which would explain the steps at the back. Maybe they strengthened the old girl, lifted her temporarily, built the new retaining walls, steps and drainage, then lowered her back in place. Does anyone know for sure?
What the light rail that has been "testing" for this year 😂. Most people complain because it was supposed to be finished nearly a year ago but then things like a cone falls on the tracks and then they must to more testing. It's pissing us off. But there are no light rails from paramatta to carlingford yet
Sydney trains has too much of a monopoly. The more stations that get converted to metro or even light rail would be preferable the better. The line was rubbish anyway and won't be missed. Hopefully we lose a few more stations as time progresses. The staff are useless and hold Sydney hostage. Definitely won't be missed. One mode having too much power is bad for us all

0:33 Correction - Dundas *Tram-Stop!*
Dundas station was mostly used by the junkies who lived nearby
4:52 Not "light rail vehicle, the *PROPER* name is *"TRAM!"*
Yeah that’s a battle i’ll never win.
If i say Tram someone will say otherwise etc etc etc.
Duly noted
