The way her voice grows more desperate, intense, crying out almost... this song makes me wanna cry
This ban just came into my life. I've been listening to every version of this song I can find and I tear up every time.
Wish I knew what it is about his song that is so evocative and emotional for so many....taps into something inside that's obviously very raw
I hear you niccolo. I used to cry now it makes me wanna play punch the predators...
toxic masculinity or pushing back at a predatory universe bcuz I'm sick of laying down like a martyr-masochist? 🤷 what's your opinion?
Surprise ! Big Thief will release their new album 'Two Hands' on October 11th
My girlfriend of many years, discovered this song ….. it surprised me as it at first didn’t seem like anything I could have imagined her liking or listening to….. this girlfriend; is someone I knew from the moment I met her ….that she was the woman I wanted to marry ….. when I met her…. I was in sort of a strange place ….. all of this I disclosed to her ….. from August 2016 until 2024 we lived together. I tried my best to, failing in many areas - yet succeeding in many others ……. As of today ….. I don’t know where we stand ….. it is horrifying , and not something I know how to remedy with a single gesture. I love this woman - and miss her. I hope I end up looking back at this comment - married to her …. And simply not giving this comment or any other pretty thought a second glance or moment - moving forward in the direction of both of our dreams - together
Does she object to the prodigious and profligate use of ellipses? Something to look into.
And… good luck, mijo.
here’s my story about my ex wife, i feel like sharing my story may help you. feel free to say it doesn’t i’ll laugh i bit i think.
was with my ex wife for more than half my life.
i have moderately bad aspergers/autism(im really smart, master auto tech, pulls transmissions and rebuilds them but i can’t manage to do house work and get my stuff together for work with out help) i also have several other mental illness that i’ve struggled with my whole life. (im now taking medication and it works)
i’ve always been a person who has longing and wanted to love and be loved. i thought that me and her had that.
we broke up and got back together id i had to guess more than 25-30 times. she left everytime. it caused me such intense abandonment issues that resurfaced from my childhood. and still to this day 2 years later effects me in horrible ways.
i can tell you from experience, take the time and heal, i know it hurts, it hurts bad. but i will tell you, the feeling of fear and dread that you’re gonna do something and she’s gonna run again is the worse.
im sorry that you’re experience this and maybe my story can help you some.
2008 or 2009 to april 2022. she lived with me from the age of 17 to 20 we split bc we both had issues with drugs. and when i tried to flush em she blamed me and left.
she went 900 miles away for a year.
came back and it was great, but the feeling of i knew she was gonna eventually get sick of my autism and leave again. and she did.
it took me 2 years to heal and when i met my real person it was when i least expected it. and i’ve never been happier. she makes me feel like im wanted. i’ve never had that feeling. finding your person is magical. i remember the first time i kissed her, i saw every emotion flash in her eyes at once, she said no kissing, i did it anyways. she was upset for 5 seconds and then in that moment she fell for me. i felt the electricity from our souls dancing the in the air.
i promise you can get through this, if that’s what you gave to do.
i love you random guy, don’t kill yourself tonight. know that there are people, random people that you don’t know like myself that are willing to do things to help you. DM me if you ever have that thought of life not working. or being tired.. too tired.. someone is here for you. don’t forget it..
She captures Sinead frenetic desparation but in a more organized controlled way. The outtro guitars are on a level ive never heard... Like a Cobain solo with Jimi/Miles Davis crazy(in the best way) vibe. Tom Morello would even smile
Holy shit! This feels like when I found out about Bright Eyes. I'm a little late to the party, but I think I'll stay a while. Thank you Big Thief.
You might like Phoebe Bridgers. She has a similar sound to Big Thief, Johnny Goth, Elliott Smith, and she used to jam with Bright Eyes. If you like any of them you might check her out.
In the summer of 2019, I was on a trail crew in Colorado. We were away from everything. A woman on my crew played this song on guitar frequently and beautifully. For a long time, her rendition was the only one I knew. That was probably the best summer of my life. Months later, after returning to college, I heard this recording play in a movie theater downtown and teared up. Amazing song, very special for many reasons.
I had a similar experience with this song! I was in Denver Colorado I had a small café really late at night and a girl and a guy were singing, they sang the song. I thought it was theirs until I heard it later on XMU. It is such a special song!

"It's not the hunger revealing, nor the ricochet in the cave"
Love that part. Her voice just leaks the anger and frustration.
josh klinghoffer brought me here, I'm in love with this band
I listened to this masterpiece before, but Josh reminded me to come back :-)
Damn, when she growls I get chills everytime.
Love it also. Also check out Carla Bozulich/Evangelista for some more killer vocals.
i feel so sorry for anyone who doesnt know this song my condolences 😪😪😪😞💞
!
It’s not the energy reeling
Nor the lines in your face
Nor the clouds on the ceiling
Nor the clouds in space
It’s not the phone on the table
Nor the bed in the earth
Nor the bed in the stable
Nor your stable words
It's not the formless being
Nor the cry in the air
Nor the boy I’m seeing
With her long black hair
It’s not the open weaving
Nor the furnace glow
Nor the blood of you bleeding
As you try to let go
It's not the room
Not beginning
Not the crowd
Not winning
Not the planet
Not spinning
Not a ruse
Not heat
Not the fire lapping up the creek
Not food
Not to eat
Not the meat of your thigh
Nor your spine tattoo
Nor your shimmery eye
Nor the wet of the dew
It's not the warm illusion
Nor the crack in the plate
Nor the breath of confusion
Nor the starkness of slate
It's not the room
Not beginning
Not the crowd
Not winning
Not the planet
Not spinning
Not a ruse
Not heat
Not the fire lapping up the creek
Not food
Not to eat
Not what you really wanted
Nor the mess in your purse
Nor the bed that is haunted
With the blanket of thirst
It's not the hunger revealing
Nor the ricochet in the cave
Nor the hand that is healing
Nor the nameless grave
It's not the room
Not beginning
Not the crowd
Not winning
Not the planet
Not spinning
Not a ruse
Not heat
Not the fire lapping up the creek
Not food
Not to eat
Not to die
Not dying
Not to laugh
Not lying
Not the vacant wilderness vying
It's not the room
Not beginning
Not the crowd
Not winning
Not the planet
Not spinning
Heard them on Sirius tonight...been listening to them for the past 5 hours.. new favorite band.. I thank the universe for new music and all the moving parts that create it.. love
I can hear the Neil young on this fucking thing and it's gorgeous!
They are also doing their own thing, it's all so damn perfect.
Neil for sure... and Don't forget Bobby D...Dylan, not Digital. The Lonesome Death of Hattie Carroll, to be specific.
She has so much to say when you look at the volume of solo and big thief work shes created in last several years its stunning in volume but even more impressive in that its all of such quality.
This is one of those songs that your soul understands
Wow! Grammy Nominee. Congratulations!!!
This song is really insane
This song made me shed a tear, both in joy and sadness. I don't know why, but I like it. This is art.
Yeah....I'm gonna go ahead and listen to that on repeat for the rest of the day.
This song is a great relief for me. I’ve been looking for a band this interesting for a while now and I’m so glad I found Big Thief.
They absolutely killed it. This song is amazing. Discordant guitar and haunting vocals. Can't think of another song in 2019 that I've heard that was so moving. Great work!
"Not" debuted at #1 on the New Alternative 40 Chart this week!
Not what you really wanted
Nor the mess in your purse
Nor the bed that is haunted
With a blanket of thirst
It's not the hunger revealing
Nor the ricochet in the cave
Nor the hand that is healing
Nor the nameless grave
In a way, I see this song as a fantastic response to a common question among poets and other writers -- "Why write?" -- and attempting to do so via an elaborate process of elimination (the string of negatives) -- hoping to come to a fundamental, solitary truth... I feel it's a stellar song on conjuring aesthetics, maybe in the vein of Yeats' "The Circus Animals Desertion"...
they've quickly become one of the most important acts in modern music to me personally. also THAT SOLO
I almost can't listen to this song it's so incredibly beautiful. I have cried and cried everytime I have heard it. Which is only three times I want to listen more but I need to be in a special environment to be able to handle it. Adrianne's voice might just be the most heartbreaking sound I have ever heard !!
This guitar solo is great. I love it
I can’t remember any other band in my 36years of hardcore music fandom which made me feel like I was so lucky to be alive and receptive to this music while it’s being made in real time. We are so fortunate to have this band
I absolutely love when that happens. Just sheer fortune to coexist at a time and space to listen to a specific song.
2 albums within 6 months. Another masterpiece for sure. Straight in my top3 bands forever now. You guys have really something unique. We love you.
Big Thief has become one of my absolute favourite bands. I am so thankful I was able to catch them open for Wilco in Portland, ME a few years ago. I hope to see them again.
I went to this show as well and skipped the opener because I had never heard of them...what a mistake... amazing band...
This is one of the best modern songs I've ever heard. I might put my Cosby, Stills, Nash and Young albums down for a minute and check the whole CD out. Awesome stuff.
This song blew me away on SiriusXM, almost drove off the damn road. I'm pushing 60 years old and definitely was reminded of Neil Young, maybe Johnny Cash a little. There is so much intensity to this song. Time to buy their music!
I've cried twice while listening to this song in the past week.
Words can’t describe how this song makes me feel
_UFOF_ is finally going to have some competition for album of the year
Ufof wasn’t all that great. Hopefully they do better on this one... they have so much potential.
@@darkestification Right, it was extremely over-hyped by Pitchfork. Capacity was far better.
Melodic, warm, love imagined with a rising dose of happiness and joy!
Fourth album and they still sound so fresh and raw. I love this band.
0:46 that drum riff is awesome
Been revisiting this song again and found more that I love. I'm not stop listening to them now
I fucking love this band so much. So happy I found out about them last night. I needed them in my life.
I just discovered this tune on a french radio : immediate crush ! Very found of the alternative rock of the 90's (Sonic Youth, Lush, Bloody Valentine...) such a band is made for my ears.
So good to hear an edge back to their music after the quiet ufof.
This song made me cry so hard when they played this live when it wasnt released yet, so powerfull!
Saw them last night and it was the most traumatic experience of my life when they played this
I don't listen to music radio all that often, but I am glad I did today because this came on and I think they are my new favorite band.
Gotdamn. There is such an emotional exhaustion yet persevering drive to this. A ceaselessness that completely evokes the achy-blissful depths of being alive.
Ok this song is really speaking to me ... Listening to it at LAX parking lot before I work to Kona thanks for a great song ❤
Poetry that makes your soul smile , smart without the snobbery of intellectualism ,
Just enough grit to reflect the suffering of the art , flows with the blood of a sharp indi outfit.
Pure awesome in its crisp packaging that shows it was a collaboration made from love , love of the art and each other.
This is what I get from hearing the new sign of they're season.
Ive loved these guys from they're start and I wish them all the best with the new work.
one of my favourite tracks of the year. and whole album is amazing.
One of the best vocalists I've heard in years.
One of the best band these days, and an astonishing songwriter!
I'm addicted. It was so good to discover this band ❤️
2019 is Big Thief's year and they deserve EVERY SECOND OF IT 🖤🖤🖤
oh boy oh girl
accidently discovered NOT .. and it's just so good
the guitar and voice sound pleasingly 90'ish, raw honest direct
Pause / Replay / Volume Up Up
There is something just devastatingly immediate in the tone of her voice.
Oh my gosh, yes, they are making up for all of the other bands who take like 3-4 years in between albums. Thank you so much, you guys are amazing.
2024 and this song still kicking ass!
Awe-inspiring AND prolific! These terrifyingly gifted young things could release 27 albums a year, and I would eat them all up with a big fucking ladle.
4AD has been the best label for decades.
I read the list and still checking out your year. Great selection so far
Big Thief at the Cedar Cultural Center in Minneapolis ca. 2018 was maybe the best show I ever saw. As an old-fogey, believe me that's saying something...
I listened yesterday
I came back today
See you tomorrow
So glad to finally have a proper recording of this after hearing it more than a year ago
This song…This band…All the feels.
This song is all about that void in each of us that we try to fill with anything to feel whole
This song needs to be in a movie
Thank You Big Thief for standing up for justice. Love and Peace!
Perfection in a song! I can listen in awe for hours.
Had a wonderfuly tense relationship at the time I discovered that song. It really illustrates the angst and yet craving between doomed lovers. Poetic as it can be
What a spectacular feeling listening to this gives. On the road we blast this nearly twice a trip
They’re single handedly restoring my faith in modern music, stay cool people!
Bravo! Fabulous work!!!!!
I don't think I've ever listened to this song without crying. Such a beautiful and emotional track.
Hey guys, L’Olympia Monday April 18th, Montréal… Thank you, thank you, thank you and Merci!!!
❤️ 🙏🏼 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼
i havent heard a solo like that since At Least That's What You Said, this song is powerful
_____ reminds me of robert plant's comment about neil young guitar. he can make you cry. this band has captured that sound wonderfully
Speechless like 🤯🤟🤟🤟👏👏👏👏👏👏
I bow down🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
They're about to release another "best of 2019" album, and this is the PERFECT song to announce it. Thank you, Big Thief!
i'm in love with this band so BAD
hey, i love noise music and stuff. first time i heard you i was surprised that i liked it a lot, and now i understand it all! amazing guitar solo, very very nice! one of the best
i'm weeping
I’m so glad I love this so much.
I love how the vocals get more and more desperate until they stop completely, and then the music continues, but still gets gradually more chaotic
Wow i heard this song on xm today. I absolutely love it. Especially at 2:25. When is slowed down. And she's like mad singing. Love it
That my fellow music listeners is how you craft a savage solo. The tone is so menacing.
Such powerful energy flowing out of this song
A great rock song with very new folk roots because it is different from the typical folk rock song
Can't believe we're getting another album so soon. U.F.O.F. is still so fresh and such an accomplished record. Delighted!
I LOVE THEM SO MUCH... im so pumped to finally see them!!!
THANK YOU
@@diegoisaac93 He'd try to force the band to eat each other because under communism there is no food :^)
god damn how does she do it. Adrianne is truly an incredible songwriter and she and her music will be remembered forever
we'll never know what it is and i will forever love them for that.
Awesome tune. The guitar solo reminds me so much Neil Young & Crazy Horse. And Adrianne's vocals are so raw and emotional.
WOW! How is this possible! Another Great Genius Album!!! Not Worthy!!! But Love it!❤❤❤ Great Great Band!!!
Shark Smile brought me here, I'm going to stick around for awhile. Amazing sound!
Finally found this song. Oh, joy.
New favorite big theif song
When I run out of booze, I can always come here to get stupid drunk on guitar 🎸
When her voice breaks! This is one of the most underrated songs ever.
