    Nuno, of course as always is phenomenal. And Gary is one of the most energetic frontmen I’ve ever seen. And they were smart to get the awesome Mike Mangini on the kit. But let’s not underestimate the badass bassman Pat Badger! His background vocals are spot on and the dude keeps up note for note with Nuno!

      It was tough for them, even they said that they were perceived as the "band that shouldn't be there", just cos they were previously hugely popular among the "teeny boppers" cos of More than Words. It'd be different now, but it was not really known then to see different genre bands on the same Bill. You can see Gary Cherone trying to sound a bit "harder" here at the starter. They were determined to see it through.

    Awesome, thanks for upping. I used to have an audio boot of this show, lost it along the way. 1994 rock audiences could not have been less interested in this style of music, but the boys still came out and delivered. Here we are in 2023, and everyone's coming around. Their recent "rise" in the public consciousness justifies all the years I had to defend my love of this "cheesy hair metal band" (their words, not mine) to other rock fans.

    Massive Extreme fan. I always feel slightly sorry for them though - they worked so hard on the brilliant 'III Sides'...but by the time it came out, the music world had changed: Nirvana had helped phase out guitar solos (Korn would kill them completely (for a while anyway)), fellow bombasts Guns 'n' Roses had blown themselves up...and, if I remember correctly, they followed Pantera that day - who were at their peak - and musicianship wasn't high on the agenda anymore...

I’m glad I experienced it all, was great 👍

    • @eriksrensen9869
      @eriksrensen9869 6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I'm offended by the fact you mention Pantera in the context that musicianship wasn't appreciated much anymore. I am a massive fan of Nuno but Dimebag was still way above him as a guitarist

    • @brianjones8432
      @brianjones8432 6 ปีที่แล้ว +30

      LOL... No, he wasn't...... Great player, but not in the same league with Nuno. Dimebag didn't remotely have the sense of rhythm and funk that Nuno has, much less the sense of melody.

    • @brianjones8432
      @brianjones8432 5 ปีที่แล้ว +7

      @Jay Sizzle I'm sorry, but in the discussion of iconic players.... at least among guitar players..... Dimebag doesn't even come up with the exception of the tragedy. Nuno on the other hand carved a very unique style and is still deified among players almost 30 years later. Again, I don't dislike Dimebag, he was a solid player, but other than being famous/infamous due to the way he was unfortunately killed, he's not anything that stood out for players in any monumental way...... Of course a Pantera fan might try to tell you different, but that's simply favoritism.

    Great to remember this set. It was a great day but now I'm older, I realise what a bunch of bellends some of the Donington crowd were. I went for many years around this time and there were a lot of insecure, posturing, piss throwing 'hard men'!! 🤣 Most of us just wanted to enjoy the music.

    I was at this gig, Aerosmith headlined. Anyone else? Lots of piss getting thrown around and human pyramids collapsing all over.

    I love that they went out with the intention of 'taking' the gig, and nobody would want to follow Sep and Pantera in '94.
    But why on earth play More Than Words at this gig?! 😄

    I was there that day but sadly I don't have a vivid memory of any of it. Just a few hazy ones. You were allowed to take your own limitless amounts of beer into the venue in those days. I remember the people who I with more than anything as I haven't been in contact for many years.

      No shade to Gary but I prefer Nuno’s voice especially live. He’s more soulful.
