      Hey we've lost a lot of great drummers in the last ten years. Off the top of my head: Joey from Slipknot, The Rev from Avenged Sevenfold, and Taylor from Foo Fighters. Kinda weird.

    I just have to say that the fact that this is a serious reaction and not just filled with over dramatic responses makes it so more meaningful. He genuinely sat there and took in the song rather than making facial expressions for the camera.

      @chase8801 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      @freshdindumuffins9111It wasn’t just Corey’s decision. Joey’s legs were failing him and the band made a decision, a tough one at that. There was also so much shit Joey was dealing with at that time, but to put the blame solely on Corey is absurd.

    • @DarthWombat
      @DarthWombat ปีที่แล้ว +10

      @@chase8801Dude, they kicked him out of the band because they thought he was on the drugs, they didn't know about his illness and kicked him out for the wrong reasons, then didn't bother checking up on him for ages. Yes, Corey isn't solely to blame, but Corey is to blame more than the others.

    • @chase8801
      @chase8801 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      @@DarthWombat The entire thing was inevitable unfortunately. Joey was going downhill fast. 2012/13 he had gained a noticeable amount of weight, he was saying in interviews that he wanted to make the “darkest album he could” and if he couldn’t he’d basically end the band, and when asked how much say he had he said “all of it”. He was willing to bring the band down with him. Another thing is Joey’s side projects (Scar the Martyr) kept delaying the band’s work on a new album. Slipknot was on a 7 album deal with RR and it had been 5 years since AHIG was released, they were anxious to work but Joey kept putting it off. By this time he was a shadow of his former self, his energy in live shows weren’t there anymore, he was abusing alcohol, there was so many things wrong, the MS diagnosis was just a cherry on top.
      To me, the band did what they had to do, Joey was more of a liability at this point, they called the shots and it’s unfortunate how it ended.

  • @sethtrey
    @sethtrey ปีที่แล้ว +46

    3:36 how it gets perceptibly faster into the second chorus is exceptional. I always start paying attention to the song again at that point. I assume that's Joey's doing, because Joey was a genius.

      Losing Paul was the first step towards a breakdown of the band that's for sure. Much like RHCP, with their music being built off the back of Chad and Flea, a lot of Slipknots heavy hitter songs were written off the back of Paul and Joey's parts.

    I'd love to see more pauses and actual pointers on stuff he finds musically interesting. For example each of the Metallica instrumentals are full of small details on which none was commented on but left to the end in which easily can make someone forget some of the nuances when listening first time.
    He's clearly extremely knowledeable man and I'd love to know what he thinks when he hears those odd accents, signature changes, ghost notes, wah pedals with basses, bent flute notes, composition etc. etc.

    Uh oh, he brought the heavy…
    I remember I was 16/17 years old and I heard this on the radio right as I was going to bed… I never thought that something so hardcore could ever be made and I was an instant fan, just like all who heard their first single, which is Wait & Bleed. This is back when Corey’s voice was unmatched in any genre of music, before he blew it making the Iowa album. He didn’t know how to healthily scream in the early years, hence why it’s so raw and fantastic and hence why he mostly, or at least the majority of the songs from the 3rd album, are of him singing cleans. But I’m very glad you brought Slipknot’s first album into J’s life at the beginning of his journey into the phenom that is Slipknot, because that’s how all of us started in the first place. 🤘🏼☕️

    When I was 16-17 this shook me in a way I can't even describe. Slipknot changed my life. I was in a *very* bad place with an extremely abusive mother and this album quite literally saved my life. I finally felt like I had an outlet for that anger I was just bottling up and considering taking out on myself in a very dark way. I can say I wouldn't be alive today without this band and album.

    Yeah for this album Jim Root only recorded Purity and Chris (Fehn, former percussionist) is credited but didn't record anything. The cover for the album shows Josh (Brainard, former Guitarist) in a plain leather kink mask. On the original photo for the cover they have Shawn's drum tech wearing a prototype of the mask that Chris would eventually wear. On the released album cover they photoshopped in Chris head with his updated mask.

    I was never really a nu metal type of person (preferred the classic 80s stuff) but I still remember to this day when wait and bleed/Slipknot gained exposure, it was a MAJOR breathe of fresh air. A lot of the other bands at the time were top 40 friendly, repetitive, and just bland with zero to no talent (Mudvayne was a standout, incredible musicians with a strong jazz influence). Slipknot was heavy, dangerous, and a lot more intense.

    Eyeless would have been a great option too... But you can try Heretic Anthem from the second album "Iowa" the next time

    I’d recommend the song “in the shadow of our pale companion” by the band “Agalloch” from the album “The Mantle” it is a masterpiece and a musical journey of a song I feel our friend here would very much enjoy the song and the experience it offers.

    The first slipknot album was on max volume all throughout my Junior Year in HS. I’m surprised I can still hear 😂

    If you like songs that go in a direction to a build you should check out The Warning and Alissa Cara's reimagining of Enter Sandman from Metallica's Blacklist. The re-arrangement of it is so perfect and satisfying.

    Lyrics:
    I've felt the hate rise up in me
    Kneel down and clear the stone of leaves
    I wander out where you can't see
    Inside my shell I wait and bleed
    I've felt the hate rise up in me
    Kneel down and clear the stone of leaves
    I wander out where you can't see
    Inside my shell I wait and bleed
    Goodbye!
    I wipe it off the tile, the light is brighter this time
    Everything is 3-D blasphemy
    My eyes are red and gold, the hair is standing straight up
    This is not the way I pictured me
    I can't control my shakes!
    How the hell did I get here?
    Something about this, so very wrong
    I have to laugh out loud, I wish I didn't like this
    Is it a dream or a memory?
    I've felt the hate rise up in me
    Kneel down and clear the stone of leaves
    I wander out where you can't see
    Inside my shell I wait and bleed
    Get outta my head 'cause I don't need this!
    Why didn't I see this?
    I'm a victim Manchurian Candidate
    I have sinned by just
    Making my mind up and taking your breath away
    I've felt the hate rise up in me
    Kneel down and clear the stone of leaves
    I wander out where you can't see
    Inside my shell I wait and bleed
    I've felt the hate rise up in me
    Kneel down and clear the stone of leaves
    I wander out where you can't see
    Inside my shell I wait and bleed
    Goodbye!
    You haven't learned a thing
    I haven't changed a thing
    The flesh was in my bones
    The pain runs always free
    You haven't learned a thing
    I haven't changed a thing
    The flesh was in my bones
    The pain runs always free
    I've felt the hate rise up in me
    Kneel down and clear the stone of leaves
    I wander out where you can't see
    Inside my shell I wait and bleed
    I've felt the hate rise up in me
    Kneel down and clear the stone of leaves
    I wander out where you can't see
    Inside my shell I wait and bleed
    And it waits for you!
