If they are on an excursion thru the ship, if they are late because of excursion, the ship will wait. But if you are late on your own, it's your fault. No excuses. You know what time to be back.
For the most part Susie, I agree with you... but what if you take a taxi to the beach, or you purchase an outside excursion and the vehicle breaks down... or there's a horrific accident and they are late... sometimes bad things happen. Now, most of these folks... just poor time management for sure. 🤣
If they were on a carnival excursion there would be more than just them
@@thecruiseworld if they took an excursion with the ship, it will wait. The ship states that if you do an excursion on outside of the ship's excursion, you are responsible to be on time. It is not the ships responsibility to wait for you if you because you decided to go outside of what the ship offered.
@@thecruiseworld That's the chance you take when you decide to explore on your own, which is perfectly fine to do. However, don't expect the ship to wait if unforseen circumstances occur that delay your return. Does the insurance cover these types of emergencies? What alternatives are available for these passengers to reunite with the ship? Just wondering in case I ever find myself in that predicament.
@@carlahaigler9982 The question about insurance is a good one... I would say yes if a documented medical issue or accident is what prevented your timely return. I have heard of people going to the next port of call and rejoining the ship. My point I was trying to make is that not all of these pier runners are "stupid" or "idiots" for missing the ship... sometimes legitimate things happen that were unforseen, even if they had a solid return plan... We make sure to be back on the ship 1 hour before the ship plans to leave. We already grabbed something to eat with a drink sitting on our balcony watching and waiting on the pier runners. I am not trying to get left behind!

Omg it’s so much fun. Last year we were on Magic and docked next to Spirit, both ships scheduled to leave at the same time so everyone was gathered to wave at each other ship to ship then we realized we had pier runners for BOTH ships! Absolutely hilarious! It turned into a horn blowing fest!
Best part if the cruise and it’s free.

Been on that pier and it is very VERY long walk. Was even told on the cruise ship to get back early cause the pier is a long walk back.

It's stupid to wait until the last minute to get back on the ship. I make sure I'm back loooong before the ship is scheduled to leave.
As do we! But.. even being vigilant, traffic has caused some close calls. Luckily we have never been the runner...

Just be aware of the back onboard tume... respect it.. and make sure you don't confuse local time and ship time.
Just keep track of the time . When it starts getting close to time we usually just hang out in the shops by the pier so when we are done we get on the ship... However . As tempting as it is don't book excursion outside of carnival. You can get them for half the price sometimes . HOWEVER, if you are in a carnival booked excursion and say the bus breaks down etc. They will wait for the entire group to get back .. you may save money but peace of mind is the way I like to go ..

you know what time to board back on ship. No CP time allowed. That's just so stupid.
Obviously some people have a little too much of the fun juice... especially in Cozumel... others I know sometimes forget that ships time and local time are often different

The part that always kills me isn't that they are late. Its they can clearly tell they are running late by all the people yelling andvor cheering when they see them, yet take there sweet time to mosey on down the pear. Run or be left behind.
Sometimes it's the cruise liability to wait for them if they were on a cruise sponsored excursion and came back late

I always just pay for the bike ride down the pier in cozumel. Never been a pier runner being late but that is one long pier. Lololol. Going back to cozumel here for our second time this year soon.

Hard to say what the deal was here... could be a multitude of things, usually it's too drunk, but not in this case (I hope)... maybe a mix up between ship time and local time...

I love watching ppl get left. Such selfish behavior to be so late back to the ship. We once waited an hour past boarding time for ppl. I can see being a fee minutes late. But over an hour!

The ship will wait if you are on a carnival booked excursion. And something happens and they are running late to the ship... They will wait for the group.
Me and my wife saw rhem off our balcony on the our ship Valor across from them but they waited for then I'll first time on a cruise 🛳 they said make sure be back at a time we was there a hour earlier glad they made it

That’s what I’ve always understood as well…. But I will tell you, a lot of the pier runners I’ve captured on video were well after departure time, and the ships have waited…
@@thecruiseworldit depends on the schedule and how many other ships are in port (because they each have a scheduled departure time)
FYI, always set your electronic devices to "ship time" especially if you have older devices. Cruise ships go across different time zones which could cause confusion on the time. Still, it's foolish to wait till the last minute...They WILL leave your azz!

That's what I hate about cruises. You don't get a lot of time on land and you're constantly checking the time.

I worked for a company cruise ( I won't name it) and our port home was San Juan, Puerto Rico. It was February and they were celebrating the San Sebastian carnival and I got sooo distracted with the music, drinks and the party that when I realized the time, it was 5:30pm.
10 minutes later that I realized I was late all the big bosses started calling me and asking for my whereabouts. Long story short, all the streets were sooo crowded that I couldn't even take an Uber or a ride. A local costumer that was on the ship the week before, recognized me and he gave me the ride. I didn't get fired but I was the first person in months to be that late to the ship. I got there at 7:10pm, literally the whole ship was waiting for me to sail

@@thecruiseworld I was super nervous, specially when I started getting all this calls of managers from the cruise. I remember thinking "OMG I'm fired fired, for sure" 🤣. Thanks God I just had a punch hole in my ID card and a verbal warning. I remember all the crew members seeing my card and saying " Damn I haven't seen a punch hole in a card for years". So yeah I was really lucky that I didn't get fired. It was a great and fun day before I started getting all those calls 🤣

It depends on the cruise…. In Cozumel, usually between 8-12 hours…
Which balcony rooms do you book to make sure you can watch the pier runners? Aren’t there rooms on both sides of the ship? How do you know you’ll be on the right side?
Hey Amy, unfortunately you never know which side the port will be in…. Sometimes the ship goes in forward and sometimes it backs in. I just head up to one of the upper decks to watch the show!
I can't stand people that inconsiderate. No excuse for being that late. They give you a time to be back by and if your on an excursion,, those people have you back on time because that is their livelihood, these people were late because they wanted to be.
For the most part I agree... there are some times when bad accidents or weather conditions cause people to be late, and many people book excursions outside the cruise line because of affordability. I for one, cannot afford to miss the ship, lol. Thanks for watchin the channel!

Some people don’t understand the time differences when u go to another place. Theirs the ship time, your local time where ever u came from and theirs the time zone of where you’re docked. I didn’t really get it either.
Always stay on ships time…. That’s a good rule of thumb.
This is why I will only book excursions through the cruise line. I'm not taking any chances

In Europe weather and falling trees delayed trains and traffic and us and lots others… we were these people. It’s not fun I am always back on the ship early and I am not a fan of this 😢
We've only been close to this situation once before and it was in Greece. CRAZY traffic caused us to be very late... and yeah, what a horrible feeling.
The cruise lines need to start pulling away from the piers on time and stop waiting for people that think they can just come walking back when they want to.
