    The wall dash is a mechanic that has become more and more popular particularly in the past few months. A few select pros are already beginning to implement it in the game. However, there's a bit more to it that almost no one (not even the pros) actually knows about. This could potentially cause a massive shift in meta for certain aspects of the game.

    Just when we think everything in Rocket League has been discovered, new mechanics and ideas somehow still tend to pop up. I'm finding myself always being impressed by how Rocket League keeps evolving. This mechanic, the wall dash, only started being used in pro Rocket League within the past few months. I watched a lot of RLCS X last season and never saw the wall dash used once. Now, after a slight bit of research and only a little bit of watching, I see it being used all the time by select pro players. And this new mechanic in particular that has yet to be used at the highest level still hasn't hit that audience yet. Maybe after this video, we'll see the few professional keyboard and mouse players start using this in almost every game. Or on the other hand, the Rocket League developers, Psyonix, might find a way to patch it and make it so no one is capable of pulling this off that easily.

    Something else I discovered after recording based on feedback:
    Apparently, if you have your game set to a high FPS and you try it in freeplay, the game won't register your jumps sometimes. I have no idea why (I'm sure that is a bug). So when you have your FPS at 250 for example, sometimes the scroll wheel dash will work and sometimes it will just make you single jump off the wall. It's just not consistent at a high FPS for some reason. I always record on 60FPS and I'm able to get it to work with the scroll wheel 100% of the time. So if it's not working consistently for you, try adjusting your FPS in game and it should work fine.

      Try locking in at a high frame rate that's a multiple of the physics frame rate (60fps) like 240 fps.

      I'm pretty sure I heard Lethamyr explain that part of the game's physics are based off fps for some reason. So this doesn't surprise me that much

      btw key-remapping isn't macros. macros are when you set up a bind to automatically actuate multiple keys with one press

      @@mohamedeltahhan It's still requiring a 3rd party software to allow jump to be activated thru multiple avenues, but yes it's not going as far as setting up a macro.

    Binding jump to scroll wheel has been used in portal 2 speedrunning for years now. Cool to see there's a reason to do it in rocket league but yeah without a macro it's not viable

      @@spynderMK people bind jump to scroll wheel in apex so they can do a mechanic called tap strafing that allows them to change their momentum into a completely different direction.

    7:35 you can bind 2 buttons to 1 action. I have the left shoulder button and x button for the handbrake for example.

      @@kaneholmes8860 the difference is that the mouse wheel is a hardware and ingame trick while the controller thing you do is a "software exploit" because you hold a Macro-key on on your controller is. But for real, nobody will care because it's so situational and you still have to perform it correctly. (comming from a Kbm player)

    It's also possible to bind 2 keys to one action in Rocket League, meaning there's no need for a macro. You just have to edit the key binding file and duplicate the line you want to have a second bind to (and of course changing the key). I do this when I want to try another controller layout without messing to much with my muscle memory (if I think about it I use the new key but if my muscle memory kicks in I still do what I wanted).

    As a kbm player I can say that, yes I think this should be patched, but I also find it a little annoying when people say "this just gives kbm players an advantage, let's take it away" because controller players have SO MANY advantages over kbm players and the one time we get an advantage everyone wants to take it away. Now, again, I'm not saying this shouldn't be patched, I think it totally should, but the way it's phrased just makes me angry.

    I do think this needs to be patched since it’s only op on one platform, not taken out of the game completely though.
    I think what needs to happen is there needs to be a limit on jumps per second (or jps) similar to how some Minecraft pvp servers have a cps limit to avoid scrolling macros like the one you mentioned or just overpowered clicking methods.

      Most Mc servers don't have cps limits they just can identify when a scross wheel is being used because it is at a constant speed

    the first goal in rlcs level play using this mechanic was an aztral assist to yukeo back on Dignitas early 2020. the game was casted by turtle and he made a huge deal about it before the ball even went in. it was a garbage-time goal to make it like 4-1 with 18 seconds left but that doesn't change the fact this was still a really good video

    If you jitter your jump button instead of just trying to press it as fast as possible it’s a lot easier
    Edit* also for kbm users you don’t need to bind scroll wheel to jump as that would be really annoying for anything other than wall dash. If you really want to do it then the best way to learn is to learn to butterfly click. Most beginners can easily get 13 ish cps like this which is pleanty to wall dash. I myself can get around 23 for long periods of time and it completely deletes the need to use the scroll wheel. I however play controller :(

    I actually think that on kbm the problem is the fact that you cant jump high. I think people can get used to normal flips but you cant hold down the scroll wheel forward

    I have been using the dinner dash in low rank (Gold-Plat) and it was so helpful but something not many people realized is that if you face your car down and dash diagonally while using powerslide it is possible to control it normally. I posted a video on it when I first learned the mechanic and I was not 100% used to it.

    I have been using an easier version of this for a while, if you do this at any point where the wall curves, it becomes a lot easier, so you can do this in the corners or at the bottom of the wall quite easily to save some boost

    You could do the wall dash making your car face the ceiling so you can drive up the wall faster, I guess it is a way to save boost.

    Honestly this is a top tier mechanic imo, just doing that and jumping off and wave dashing once to maintain speed imagine the possibilities, more wall plays, and no longer need to be slow on the walls

    Since it was not mentioned in the video, on PC, you can bind 1 movement (ex: Jump) to multiple buttons, by editing rocket league's keybind file. I personnaly use it to bind drift to another button, while keeping drift+airroll on another button.

    Not really a way of removing this, if ur playing keyboard and mouse then you don't even need to bind it to scroll; you can just butterfly click (or even drag click) the right mouse button and achieve similar results (assuming ur fast enough to pull it off).

    Towards the end he mentions how setting your jump button to scroll wheel can be unpractical. In the TAGGame file you can access every single bind in rocket league, and you can even remap the same action to various buttons/keys. KBM Players can still keep there normal jump button, but if they land on the wall, they know they can just quickly flick the scroll wheel to get to max speed. Nice

    I think this can be patched by disabling scroll wheel input in RL and putting a cooldown timer for flips such that you cannot flip more than twice within 0.15 seconds.

      Just the scroll wheel fix. Limiting flips limits the amount of crazy mechanics, so triple dashing may become impossible

      @@C4Oc. I agree, I don't like the idea of limiting the players ability's in game with an arbitrary input limit. Though I think disabling the ability to bind mouse wheel scroll wouldn't cause any harm.

      @@drapex0072 trouble is that you could easily circumvent that by binding your scroll wheel to (keyboard key/mouse button) of your choice and it would perform exactly the same way.
      I wouldn't envy anyone tasked to patch this without breaking something else.

      I'm C2 and can't wavedash, flip reset, speedflip, or air dribble. I basically play really consistently and tactically but have lack mechanics. I always feel like I'm plateauing because of that, but I've still always managed to improve consistently despite of it, just from grinding ranked

    I can't count how many times I've jumped off the wall and flipped, and the car didn't pop off the wall like I thought it would, and I couldn't figure out why. Now it's starting to make sense. It's like I was accidentally doing this but no boost out of it.

    Wayton does this make it unfair to console or controller players,they can’t do this mechanic or it’s extremely hard to do it however it’s simple for key board and mouse players.
    Maybe this is why they should patch it

      Wayton did say that you’d have to bind your jump to scroll wheel to do it anywhere near as fast as he did in the intro, so unless you learn to play with your scroll wheel as jump then it’s probably about as hard on KBM as it is on controller imo

    Honestly I feel like this isn't too much of a problem, there are so few ways that most people would be able to use it and if it's that difficult to learn than it shouldnt be much of a problem. Also one of the things I love about rocket league is the infinite possibilities from mechanics, so for this i'd say, if you can learn it awesome, if you can't oh well

      you must be referring to the wall dash. the thing is, the actual broken mechanic he's describing, isn't hard at all. if you bind jump to both a digital input (a button with two states like your keyboard keys) and your scroll wheel, you can enjoy both typical jump behavior, alongside the benefit of reaching maximum speed on the wall without boost simply by flicking the scroll wheel and holding two direction inputs.

    FOR PEOPLE WITHOUT MACRO (or you don’t want to use middle click): Use an auto clicker and bind it to right click and switch the hot key to enable the auto clicker to some button that’s near your hand you can easily tap to enable and disable.

    I’ve been actually doing this mechanic without even knowing, i was using this to recover when my champ tm8’s can’t use any camera mode and i have to get back to save a placed shot, however i can only do 2-3 consistently.

    literally the exact same thing happened to apex legends with tap strafing. i feel like it's not right to have certain mechanics only possible on one input method, but that's just my opinion. it does kind of feel like exploiting the game's system and it should be patched, but not everyone will feel that way. i'll be aware of this in the 1 in 100 games where someone uses it to score lol.

    I used to do this by accident when I was a silver going for a aerial of the wall(idk why I did that) but I unfortunately cant do it anymore. Although I found that the curves in the wall and the corner make it a lot easier.
    Edit: If you do it in the goal you can easily do 3 of them in a row

      @@onze000 Hmm... Let's start with looking around? That's pretty important if you want to have good awarness. I feel it's the most stupid, because it's more important than any car-related mechanic, while also easy to implement.
      You cannot turn camera on some angles, like for example 45 degrees, because all you have are digital inputs. Meanwhile on controller it's analogue, so you can turn camera however degrees you want. Why isn't it that you can press some key (for example ctrl) and then camera will unlock, letting you look around with mouse? If you release the key, camera should snap back to the default view from behind. Mouse movement isn't used for anything anyways right now.

For sure, it's better to have 360° "angles" of choice while using the camera, but most players don't even use it besides (approximately) 90° up and down, left and right which can be done in KBM. But your idea is great and should be implemented.

    Wayton you're pretty late to the party. I don't remember exact match and player (Aztral I think), but that has already been done like a year ago for a save or a goal in RLCS. For sure it was Achieves that noted it during the game and he was super amazed by it and it was on Utopia Coliseum. His commentary went sth like "Oh... Oh my gosh! ... If that's a goal..." and it was a goal :p

    RLbots have been using this for a while in spike rush tourneys, specifically the bot Puffy is very good at it. Just catches the ball, goes to the wall, chaindashes to the goal and tucks it in

    I don't think it should be patched. I think it's important to have difficult mechanics that players can use to showcase their mastery.
    Stalling fits within the same boat. It's doable on controller but it's easy on keyboard. Another advantage for keyboard users. And I think that's perfectly OK.
    For niche mechanics are think macros are OK? If it was necessary to have a macro for a primary mechanic such as airroll I would feel different about it.

      You can't patch it. It's physics. When you're on the wall, and jump of your car starts to fall to the ground and angle upside down, the flip towards the roof gets the car to rollback. We do it all the time on accident when jumping off the wall and flip, only to find that we aren't coming off the wall and until now, I didn't know why.

      @@spderweb it's an engine. It ain't physics. It's lines of code. You can change them any way you want.
      Off the top of my head. A way to patch it is make a rule where if you jump off a wall it would have an input delay long enough for you to not wavedash on the ball. It wouldn't even be noticeable. As mentioned in the video you have to press the buttons as fast as you can. And delaying that minutely. Would be almost impossible to notice.
      It would probably require a bunch of massive underlying code to be changed or added to though

    Re-WASD can preform button presses like this on controller without rebinding, it's called rapid fire and you can adjust the delay between button presses. You can also use it to stall with one button click.

    Rather than removing the mechanic because of controller limitations, they should make it more easily accessible for all controller types.
    Maybe psyonix could add a separate double jump control that you can bind to its own key/button. That could allow players to (in theory) mash twice as fast as they could previously. I’m sure that might have complications of its own but it’s a thought.

      It would definitely help make things fair if controller players are given the ability to do this mechanic, like adding a new button, but I feel like the limited number of buttons on the controller would mean those players are going to have to sacrifice a bind just to be able to do this :/

    Been subscribed since the dribbling for beginners video, will try to promote your channel so you can win. After playing the game seriously for around 6 months now, I feel this mechanic is an interesting one. It does give that advantage to PC players which I always thought was a pro of Rocket League was the neutrality of platform choice, but I believe it should be patched and/or altered due to how fast it would require someone to spam on controller where on PC it's as easy as scrolling a wheel.
    P.S. Your videos helped me to Diamond and I look forward to keep watching to grind to Champ

    As someone who used Keyboard for Rocket League since 2016, I always hated this glitch and complained about it to my friends, (got discord msgs/videos from 2019 about it XD), i mostly dislike it because it can interrupt wall aerial jump where your car stay on the wall instead of bounce off to do the aerials..

    There is a technique called "dragclicking" which is pretty popular in the minecraft online scene where you drag your finger over your mouse and get up to 40 clicks per second. The other fast clicking techiques might be viable now as well

    That's insane that you can do that! This should not be patched because it could be used in so many ways, like getting to the ceiling to do a flip reset sooner than would otherwise be possible, and if someone figures out how to do it consistently on the ground, then they can get first touch without using any boost and, if they aim it correctly, score a goal before the defense knows what's happening.
