It's an unfair test. This test is dependent on the region that the guesser plays in though. For Example, an OCE GC is better than an NA GC because of player base size, but an NA pro is better than an OCE pro. So an OCE player might look at an NA SSL and think it's GC gameplay and an NA player might look at an OCE pro and think it's GC gameplay. To make it a fairer test, you should get (for example) OCE players guessing on OCE gameplay and NA players guessing on NA gameplay.

Being a gc I can see straight away another gc clip. The single jump airials and mindless idling in the middle of the pitch with 20 boost is so recognisable
I think limiting the footage to 1 minute makes it harder by just limiting the amount of gameplay you can watch. RL is streaky and guessing a rank realistically needs like 2-3 games played over a few weeks for a more accurate guess

People always forget that the other people in the match are similiar skill level. So they compare their own skills to the players and think that the player's opponents are bots or something. They expect some 10-0 beating from every ssl or pro player and forget that they are matched against such players too so it's not going to go like that.

Wayton one problem with this system you have here these pro player games are against players that arent pros because especially some pros are not high ranks they play scrims not ranked
unfortunately I am a Vitality fan (in general not only rl) and I knew for Kaydop because I saw how they played also Champions Field and the overtime (typical game 5 or 7 rlcs) and I recognized the decal of Alpha (I dont know if u mix the decal of the mates too but alpha's favorite decal is the anodized pearl orange pink...typical EU fennec decal). Lately they are not playing good enough (twice top16 for the last minor...) so it was a little tricky imo. Nice vid btw but to be honest you should put only NA gameplay for the pros for EU fan it was easier to find the EU players or at least the team so it should be easier for NA fan to find NA pros imo (unless if it was on purpose to make it more difficult)
8/10. Happy with that result. And I suck at the game. Looking for boost management after your tip really made the difference. Since all of these players are pretty insane tho, I would say most can learn from them including me regardless.
its kinda easy Diffrence bettween good and bad is easy as SSL look way faster and mechanical than GC's and RLCS Pros play less mechanical but by their reaction times you can tell they have the mechanics they hold off going for crazy shots and look GC to most people
Funny enough, the only one I got right was Kaydop. I recognized the way he flips and moves his car after a goal. Otherwise I was pretty much wrong all the time apart from Scrub, the way Dignitas covered tried their best to cover the whole net from a shot and the attempts at flip resets ticked it off. Guess I need more rocket league experience. :)
Ey Wayton did you pull stats on the overall pool of guesses? I'd be curious to see how it compares to random chance. it's kind of funny to me how much folks see stuff like this and apparently think the lesson to take is, "ah ok i have to feel out the best analytical framework for guessing rank based on tiny samples" as opposed to, "hey maybe i shouldn't try to guess people's rank based on tiny samples"
The thing is that players of any of those ranks could look like the complete opposite for a minute. Even a streaky GC can imitate the game of a pro for a small timeframe. It’s not a secret that it’s the incredible consistency what makes a Pro a Pro…
My guess is that many people have not watched pro players in scrims often, and instead see most pro level gameplay from the RLCS, where the camera hides much of the speed and decision making of players. There is also a large, and noticeable difference between high SSL and low SSL.
the differences btween every rank is the game speed GC: slower ,more ground play and the manage their boost worse than ssl and RL pro (they go for big boost more times than taking pats) SSL: faster, they play im the ground or in the air and they manage the boost better than GC (they take pats more often than the GC and they go for big boost if there is no danger) RL pro: super fast play , they are a lot in the air and they manage boost perfectly (they dont go for big boost every time they need)
This was a great video, it really showed the difference from high level gameplay. You are right though people tend to judge others ranks just from gameplay that they see on TH-cam or Twitch.
I think part of the reason why it’s hard to guess pros, is I only see them play different game modes online. And when I see them okay RLCS, I only see their pov for a few seconds or for clips like goals. So I guess I actually don’t know what a full minute of pro play looks like apart from videos like these.
To be fair: Turbo is very low mechanicly and situationally (like wavedashing after the demo, would do EVERY good pro). Hes just very good strategically
That's the reason why i am not judging my team mates after one game. I don't say "my team mate was trash" i say "that maybe wasn't his best performance". The games are too short to judge most of the time.
I would definitely say (at least for me), that being a low ranked player definitely makes it harder to choose. Like, I probably couldn't even point out mistakes that higher players would notice. Still great video! 💚
I'm a Champ that lives on the C2/C3 border (both sides). Honestly, Champ vs GC is a pretty noticeable gap. GC to SSL is hard. SSL to Pro is...dang. It's huge in terms of skill level, but not in what most people see. Bear in mind that Lethamyr has lost Road to GC games to GC. He will never consistently do that, and his teammates factor in, but for mid-high level GCs, consistency is the problem. Champ is like a first degree black belt, GC is black belt 2-3, SSL is 4-5, and pro is basically top level pro fighter or grand master. I say that because telling a 4th degree black belt from an 8th is hard if they're not fighting each other directly. They look the same during floor exercises. That is, until the 70 year old Takyuki Mikami (then 7th dan, now 9th) is slowly calling out each section of a kick (up, kick, back, down by numbers) and effortlessly holding between numbers, and the 4th degree black belt head senseis of various dojos are struggling not to topple over. Guessing ranks for Bronze to GC isn't too bad, but it's difficult above that.
@@bladewave2544 Yup, depends on the play and what you look for as 'gold gameplay'. Some people rotate and miss more balls, and some have no idea what a rotation is but miss less. Pick your poison.
for my guesses: player 1, gc (wrong), player 2, pro (wrong), player 3, pro (right), player 4, GC (right), player 5, GC (ooof, wrong), player 6, pro (wrong), player 7, gc (right), player 8, GC (right), player 9, pro (right), player 10, gc (right) 6/10 not bad i would say, but all in all i think your correct wayton majority of us are bad at guessing between gc and pro, i think i did ok cause i am gc/gc2 so i know the habbits of my rank better
for the finale, I said it's either GC2 or EU pro. The gameplay overall was very bunched, which I feel like is not the way that highest level NA (SSL and Pro) play. NA loves to spread out and give space. however, if EU do better at the Major again, we'll probably start to see it more in NA in spring. done poorly it leaves you very open, but as we saw last major, done well it is hard to handle the constant pressure. it was just hard to tell in such a short clip without nameplates to more easily see overall positioning and rotations.
People (including me) don't know the things that they * don't * know, so when i used to watch Jon Sandman for example I didn't realize all of the subtle things he does really well. Yeah he doesn't air roll and look super cool and he has fun and doesn't try too hard, but he legitimately knows how to play very well, with positioning and very good basic mechanics, and it's simply not possible to identify those subtle things high level players do (or low level players lack) until you reach that level yourself and are familiar with it all. It's the same logic behind the Dunning-Kruger effect
yeah, honestly, it makes complete sense that we suck at it. most of us are below grand champion, which means that even if we focus on the flaws, we don't completely know if the flaws were actually flaws.
today i learned that the pro gameplay seems to be more patient which I think is why alot of people (including myself) voted the pros lower. Because they are not going up for every ball I thought "oh they're probably nervous... and so they can't be a pro." however, when you take a step back to watch it again, its actually a really good decision to not go for that ball, and they made that decision alot faster than the lower ranks. Also... Question: were the Pro games taken off of something like an RLCS brodcast where all the players were going "full tryhard" or were they taken from they're stream? because I feel like pros play much different in RLCS than they do in just a ranked game.
It is true. GC+ is very hard to guess especially when you only have a minute to tell and you are not at those higher ranks and do not know what goes into being at the better rank
I thought I saw that the 2nd pro went for some useless balls and shots that really put him out of position, and when I rewatched the video, it confirmed my thoughts. Just a little justification as to why people might have picked SSL or GC.
I'm GC2, I guessed almost nothing correctly, from the first 10 videos I 1s guessed SSL, and then it was a pro, and for the rest I all guessed GC 2-3 (so GC) and I really got thrown of guard by this. I had no idea it was this hard to even guess the higher ranks
bro i hate how 90 percent of twitch chat was just spamming "this is wayton" and then after it finally was they said "I CALLED IT!" like... no tf u didnt
Hmm, I got 7/10 correct + Final. I think the biggest giveaway is communication and rotation. For instance, all of the GCs kept going for big boosts; SSL & RLSC rarely did. Oh and quite obvious, passes and double commits

I have never been so sure of myself than thinking "number 3 is definitely either low GC or turbopolsa"
The third one really threw me off, I was watching the other players so much that It didn't occur to me how flawless the dominus was playing. Damn!
That's the point. It shows how hard it is to REALLY guess what someone's rank is just because of one small clip.
When you win the kahoot 😁 but end up with nothing 😭 for real tho was still a blast thanks for the opportunity to win th 10k would of neraly got me to the tw octane but oh well and and btw any of you have a spare 10k credits HMU lmao
I was 13th place and in top5 for 3 rounds🥲
@@cedric63 damn broo that sucks but winning the quiz then ending without the credits was kind sad ngl
@@cedric63 iam pretty sure your twitch usernameis cedric_N because it appears quite alot in the twitch chat but nice

@@sebp2490 yeah bro thats sad but you did well
Can I just say that there is a video that I think striped did where pro rank guessers judged the rank of past Rlcs pros, and turbopolsa and other older pros got put at around high champ to mid gc
it'd be interesting to see pros try to guess too, if they can read the skills of players better
People always forget that the other people in the match are similiar skill level. So they compare their own skills to the players and think that the player's opponents are bots or something. They expect some 10-0 beating from every ssl or pro player and forget that they are matched against such players too so it's not going to go like that.
Honestly, Scrub seemed easy to guess (not as easy as Kaydop). I'm happy that i guessed correctly every pro, but still didn't do well for the others
yeah, i missed the pro, tho, i started guessing Atomic from G2, even with the backflip mistake. It was not that it don't happen on Pro Level, but the speed level on the finale was high and it was pretty decisive.
Even though he said don't focus on skins, the pizza wheels messed me up
@@TEK- I think most of the people focused on the alpha boosts and all, i was looking for rotations and positioning. Sunless clip got pretty obvious since i saw all of the sunless team on the same fuckin side of the field
@@Malam_NightYoru Oh definitely, I watched that game in RLCS and remembered scrub bumping joreuz into the save. But those damn pizza wheels messed me up 😂
that was one of the easiest to guess i feel like. the save from the net, the ball progression with with flip reset, correct reads from the back wall. it was way better than gc for sure
technically, tbates is sub for eunited, meaning he is a pro
Sliding the winner the goal explosion quickly towards the end was a nice slick touch
Boost management and mistakes always give it away!
I was hoping you'd share some stats about how bad/good people were in general at guessing!
I was 1st in the kahoot and got 8 out of 10 😁😁😁
yoo dude the video edit is hot
8/10. Happy with that result.
And I suck at the game. Looking for boost management after your tip really made the difference.
Since all of these players are pretty insane tho, I would say most can learn from them including me regardless.
I thought the clip at the end was musty so I chose ssl
its kinda easy
Diffrence bettween good and bad is easy as SSL look way faster and mechanical than GC's
and RLCS Pros play less mechanical but by their reaction times you can tell they have the mechanics
they hold off going for crazy shots and look GC to most people
Funny enough, the only one I got right was Kaydop.
The only reason I knew that it was a European pro on the last one was because the opponent had a mustang and onl joyo uses mustangs haha
12:04 idk how but by only hearing your commentery i knew that it was sunless im a freacking magician
Lol I thought Wayton was a high ssl or a pro
With player 7 I knew it was sunless as I could imagine him comemtating and laughing at his mistakes
My guess is that many people have not watched pro players in scrims often, and instead see most pro level gameplay from the RLCS, where the camera hides much of the speed and decision making of players. There is also a large, and noticeable difference between high SSL and low SSL.
the differences btween every rank is the game speed
GC: slower ,more ground play and the manage their boost worse than ssl and RL pro (they go for big boost more times than taking pats)
SSL: faster, they play im the ground or in the air and they manage the boost better than GC (they take pats more often than the GC and they go for big boost if there is no danger)
RL pro: super fast play , they are a lot in the air and they manage boost perfectly (they dont go for big boost every time they need)
He chose the least mechanical pros apart from scrub
@@danielmullane5387 jep
@@girhen i'm a gold and i've noticed that some gold gameplay can either look like silver or plat depending on the person LMAO
@@bladewave2544 Yup, depends on the play and what you look for as 'gold gameplay'. Some people rotate and miss more balls, and some have no idea what a rotation is but miss less. Pick your poison.
I got 4 right, and really proud of one of them being Turbo based on his calculated touches.
i did really good
for my guesses: player 1, gc (wrong), player 2, pro (wrong), player 3, pro (right), player 4, GC (right), player 5, GC (ooof, wrong), player 6, pro (wrong), player 7, gc (right), player 8, GC (right), player 9, pro (right), player 10, gc (right) 6/10 not bad i would say, but all in all i think your correct wayton majority of us are bad at guessing between gc and pro, i think i did ok cause i am gc/gc2 so i know the habbits of my rank better
0:27 how the- what the- please make a video of your editing process
for the finale, I said it's either GC2 or EU pro.
Exactly like the Region difference in high level gameplay is insane anyone who's watched RLCS for years would know.
The only takeaway from this video is you cannot possibly tell for sure one's rank from 1 minute of gameplay or even a full game
That was sooo entertaining!! Great job Wayton! 🙌
I threw the last few kahoot questions but oh well. Was fun wayton!
This is the quality content I could watch all day!
It is true. GC+ is very hard to guess especially when you only have a minute to tell and you are not at those higher ranks and do not know what goes into being at the better rank
Coming back from school and seeing a notification from Wayton makes my day
I thought I saw that the 2nd pro went for some useless balls and shots that really put him out of position, and when I rewatched the video, it confirmed my thoughts. Just a little justification as to why people might have picked SSL or GC.
i also wanna say that half this game is a mindset. a tired/not tryin pro could def lose to a gc (still a close game probably)
The image of seth rogan instead of sunless is hilarious xD 12:02
5/10 i only guessed lower twice tho, kinda difficult without being able to see the other teams nameplates (not with their names) tho
I think that the hardest part is they all at least know how to do every mechanic, so it’s really hard to guess
Wayton, i love the variety of ur content! You have so many good ideas man. Keep it up ❤️
12:04 you could tell it was sunless, the way he wavedashes is a bit different to other people, quite recognisable
Wayton says we guys suck, meanwhile me guessing everything right and even who the player was ;-;
Hi!!
how are you Wayton in these days!?
Love the content!
bro i hate how 90 percent of twitch chat was just spamming "this is wayton" and then after it finally was they said "I CALLED IT!" like... no tf u didnt
You should get a couple pros and have them play in a tournament with lower ranked players. 2 pros and a plat working together would be funny
wayton should try guessing the ranks now
Great video! I was wrong everywhere but the last clip. LOL
Wayton using a photo of Seth rogan for sunless is hilarious 🤣
Fun interactive video thanks Wayton
guys one trick to see if it is an RLCS pro is the stadiums. RLCS matches usually are in Champions Field or the Forbidden Temple.
Theres no hope for me, I actually guessed wayton was a pro.
Hmm, I got 7/10 correct + Final. I think the biggest giveaway is communication and rotation. For instance, all of the GCs kept going for big boosts; SSL & RLSC rarely did. Oh and quite obvious, passes and double commits
played along in here, got 8/10 but couldve gotten 9/10 as i thought the wayton design was a double bluff lmao
