So a plus 7K truck couldn't start in 2wd going up hill? duh 7k vs 4k truck in 4x4 and the same. My 21 F250 with open difs and Cooper DISCOVERER ATP II has the same results in the same storm. 2 high spins due to the massive wheel torque from the Godzilla. 4 high I could take off like it's dry. (same snow storm as this video 20 miles north of them) Not sure you showed any science other than a heavy truck does better in 4x4 than in 2wd. The ranger is able to dump boost get a low wtq number to get the truck going.

The 3.5 is much less kick you into the back of the seat driving normal even though its a much faster truck. The F250 made to haul much more weight so Ford set it up to have more off idle tq. Do you understand how it's not apples to apples. You could flip tires on the trucks and get the same results uphill in 2wd.

Just a couple of comments. The RMA states that a 3 peak rated tire must have a 10% increase in traction over a non-3peak rated M&S, not much. I have driven many AT and MT tires in the snow (lived in New England= lots of snow) and the performance varies greatly (M/T's are terrible). The Hankook AT-M is not rated very high in snow traction compared to other AT's. My new PRO-4X came with the Hankook's I swapped them out for Wildpeak AT3W's and got a noticeable increase in snow traction. My son runs TOYO A/T III's and they have better traction than the AT3W's. I run the BFG TA KO2's on my Earthcruiser and they also perform very well however I have a Torsen front dif and a factory FUSO limited slip rear dif that adds greatly to the snow performance. I love your work, Thank You!

Marching Band Steps are a universal measuring tool of the football field. Three Season Tires are nice until the temperature hits freezing, and then they start sliding; Four Wheel Drive helps the car to accelerate, but steering and stopping can be dangerously-problematic, especially when you're driving in a snow and ice storm after a band night, a harrowing experience made worse by the fact that almost nobody else has Winter Tires.

I have Grabber AT2 three-peak tires on my SUV and they're not in the same league as my Blizzak DMV-2 winter tires. The AT2s are better than all-season tires, but just so far behind the Blizzaks it's shocking.

That short wheelbase would be great. Air lockers front and rear and good skid plates. If the front end breaks do a solid axle swap. Would make some great content...

Years ago I had a 1988 Chevy S-10 2wd 4cly automatic I put some weight in the back of that truck it go about anywhere , once we had a snow and ice there was a hill nobody was going up 4 vehicles stopped at the bottom could not make it up two of them were 2wd pickups . I drove right up it with my S-10. Of course 4wd’s are better. Today I wouldn’t be cought without a 4wd pickup

I've had both KO2's and Wildpeak AT3W's on my former truck. The AT3W's worked surprisingly well in the snow and the KO2's seemed to pack up in the lugs and get harder. Both were 3 peak rated.
Interestingly the OEM BFG Rugged Trail TA's worked great in the snow. A little wheel spin would clean out the sipes nicely.

The rubber in A/S and A/T tires becomes too hard during cold/icy conditions, neither are they good in shifting rain, slate, or snow conditions. End of story.

I was going to post this as well. They should be wearing helmets and use soft shackles. I wouldn't even use that blue strap with the metal hooks in the middle, either. If that strap breaks, any piece of metal becomes a projectile that can cause serious injury or death, or at least serious damage to the vehicles. There was a video out not long ago about a man who was killed when a trailer hitch broke while he was trying to get pulled out of a mud hole. The guy had a wife and kids, I think his wife was in the truck with him when it happened.

  • @BillyBobTup

So, what is the explanation for the night and day differences on the 2WD test? When everything else( in 4WD) was so nearly identical? Except for the braking test, where the AS on the Ram actually kicked butt, the reverse of the 2WD results? A possible explanation for the reversal in the breaking test is that the less aggressive AS might actually be superior in snow up to this depth and/or ice. Because it might not throw the snow out as quick as the AT or an MT, and pack snow in the treads "better". Snow on snow has much more grip than most any snow on rubber. So, if the ATs cleared the snow, that would explain the far superior breaking results of the Ram with AS. But still does nothing to explain the crappy results of the Ram/AS in 2WD. So, what's up with that?
