Still makes me cry 😭 they all made sacrifices for each other. San and Won were in tears because it was hard to let go of each other. San genuinely loved Won as a friend. And Rin sacrificed his honor so Won can keep the throne. But in the end, Won was so broken that he abdicated the throne for several years. Damn onions.
This is d best drama I have ever seen ..d writer exactly knows what in my mind .rin and San are lovely together .I pity rinsan who has to hid his feeling from San cause of d king but at d end love brought dem together .
one of my favorite Kdrama, nice plot, superb narrative. That's what true love and friendship is all about----sacrifices.The King can have anything he wants but this King truly values friendship more. Rin and San are loyal subjects, ally to the King but romantic love still prevails. Rin and San repeatedly try to deny their feelings for each other out of respect and love for their friend, the King. In the end Won though the King magnanimously acknowledge that you can't get in the way of true love. He set aside his own feelings for San and have chosen to save friendship over power. Great story!!!
I watch this drama just now and its still in ep.10.. The ending just like Moon Lovers, its sad ending.. I like jong hyun acting in this drama but i love WonSan couple more.. And watch this video i just can't watch the next episode.. Stop in ep 10.. I don't wanna crying in the last episode.. Im Siwan..he is good actor no matter what type of acting he did... Love him in MISAENG, TRIANGLE and other..
Yeah i agree! The ending of this and moon lovers was so sad! 😪😪😥😥 both of the drama has no happy ending which is really heart breaking and painful! 😪😥 the two lead actors and actresses didn't end up happily.. 😭😭😭

That's the 1st time (and only one so far) in a drama or a film that I have wished that the woman could be polygamous and love those two men equally ! I really loved those characters and I loved that their friendship overcame their rivalry. My favourite love triangle so far !
San only sees Won as a friend, about the thing she said that she likes him, it's only about liking him as a friend, She opened up her heart to both of them, she wanted to be friends with them. San sees Rin as the one that she loves. The way San looks at Rin explains it all. Even though she did not confess to Rin, she loves him. I think that San started to like Rin when she found out that Rin was the one who save her back then. Their eyes explain it all. It explained their feelings for each other. Rin and San ended up together in the last episode of the drama. Won did let go of San, even though he loves her more than he loves himself. He let go of San because he knows that San loves Rin and vice versa.

I already knew from the start that San wouldn’t end up with Won because of the way he indirectly caused her mom’s death. But still it broke my heart because I loved Won a lot. Run and san’s stolen glances and when won realises it, it just breaks my heart. I never felt any emotions for rin, because he chose to be by won’s side, he was loyal And nice but he had a loving family and a noble upbringing. San had a tragedy behind her, but she made the most of her time. But Won, he did not choose for himself until San. The scene where he says “ the pain of wanting to give all of your heart to someone, who doesn’t want it- I know it very well” -- referring to his mother and eventually himself. This was a beautiful series nevertheless. Some amazing characters. I need see more of these beautiful actors

I watch this drama several times and made me realized that San has her eyes on Soo In/Rin at the very beginning... He is interested on Wang Rin... Just dont be biased... Look at the scenes closely and you will see that San always notices Rin's every move... and Rin always taken aback because he knows that the Crown Prince, his beloved bestfriend, also loves the girl he adores... and loving the future consort is considered as high treason... He is so loyal with the CP and always setting aside his feelings because of loyalty. CP notice that Rin and San likes each other even the Queen and Song In also realized that... dont take the title literally because the word "love" its not just about "intimate" and "romantic" so the title The King in Love is about his love for the girl he likes, his bestfriend, his parents and his country... He realized that you cant force love and if you really love someone you must be selfless, willing to forgive and let go... That is why I really love this story not just because I am RinSan shipper but it is not a typical type of drama that girl will choose the guy because he is the male lead. I bet you will also choose the one like Wang Rin the selfless and almost perfect guy than the guy who is ill tempered and very posessive.

Rin is from the 1st Queen's family whom the King loves but had to give up for a few reasons - one being his 2nd Queen is the daughter of the Emperor of Mongolia, the bigger and stronger country. I suggest watching the whole drama to know why San chose Rin over Won and how she sees Won as a friend only. The beginning was confusing because we didn't know who she really likes but from the second part onward, you can see how she looks at Rin. When San said to Won that she likes him, it sounded like a friendly way only because she talked about their friendship right after that.
San answered the Queen honestly when she asked San how she feels about her son when San was captured in the Queen’s palace. When the Queen called Rin into the room to help San escape, she was well aware of San’s feelings towards Rin just by looking at her reaction when Rin was called in .... another very obvious clue as to how San feels towards Rin was when she looked at him that morning he came in sight when the CP told her Rin knows the 3rd Master of the Chancellor’s household better than anyone. 😍😍😍🥰🥰🥰
I would probably finish this drama, when I am emotionally stable. It just that I don't have a courage to see and felt the pain Won is experiencing. I would love to see Yoona and Siwan again in a drama.
This drama offers different side of views.. usually romance drama always works on how to hook the strongest/main role with its costar. No matter how the storyline rise low and high, it always managed to end up the leading roles to each other. Kind of a boring plot though. What I like about this story, somehow since the first time I already fought for Rin and San, becoz Rin has the purest heart to both of them, and I saw something that San needs from him. On top of that, he is the one who suffers fighting for both CP and San's sake all the time regardless his feelings towards San. We can say, maybe CP and San wont last if Rin didn't interfered in every critical moment they both faced. Luckily for Rin, San sees his deep and tender feelings since their first meeting and he got the reward finally. So, this is a different angle of love story which is fair to everyone. Many types of love are shown. And what amazed me that it is not easy to differ two feelings towards Won and Rin. The very slight different feelings only lays on which one is rising up a desire to a man and which is to a very dear friend. San got hooked with Rin, when she was saved at the trial. There that moment she finally able to separate her feelings to Won and Rin. As for the character match, if we look carefully, we might think at first that San fits greatly with Won bcoz they're both are such careless persons, free minded, tend to control others esp. Won., and strong headed. They can actually really get along surely after fighting a lot.. 😄😄 What we don't realize that San is actually someone who is long for someone to take care of her, meticulous, carefull, discipline, balanced, always seek for harmony and other wellbeing first, warm hearted and fill her lack in anything else! Those are what she found through Rin. Perfect couple by the end.. 🤗

The drama ending is not sad because san did not end up with won, it is sad because san and rin have to leave won in the end. if you back to the scenes of san and rin they are truly the one who's in love with each other and won's love for san is possessive and he would do everything to make her stay even if she's not happy while rin's love is understanding and would do everything to make her happy.
Rin already given up on her when he know king likes her if she would have liked king back Rin would have left, but because San love Rin he has to take her with him that was hurtful for both of them they never wanted to hurt Won through there love......
The series “The King in Love” was produced in 2017, but by chance I watched a clip of it in 2022 and fell in love with it..and yesterday I finished watching it, but I am very sad and my heart hurts for King Won as a result of disappointment and breakage, and how his friend betrayed him and loved his girlfriend 💔

Some of y’all are not gonna like this but most of the WonSan shippers who say RinSan couple ending together was bad are just biased ImSiwan fans, even though his character was complex and had a good heart i also think he was very insufferable, petty and possessive throughout the drama, he was more obsessed with the idea of sang being HIS rather than actually loving her, from the very first eps u can see how San is rather shy around Wang Rin cause she actually likes him, she’s more outgoing with Won but it was never cause she liked him romantically but because she saw him as a friend, hence, she was more outgoing and playful in contrast with the moments when Rin and her are alone and they both get shy and nervous and don’t know what to say cause THEY LIKE EACHOTHER and since Won is always in the middle they can hardly talk alone and get to know each other. When u watch this drama carefully u notice how San showed from the very beggining she was into Rin. I really can’t stand ImSiwan fans who say the ending was bad just because San didn’t end up with ImSiwan’s character, RinSan couple makes more sense, had chemistry and are adorable on screen, also San would be way happier going in adventures with Rin (we see a glimpse of that happiness in the river scene where they are having a good time together) rather than trapped in the palace with many concubines and a possessive king, which unfortunately was Wang Dan’s fate.

thank you, won clearly only had is own interest at heart, he only loved the idea of possessing san, like she was something to be owned. it was "you are mine" vs. rin’s "i wanted to make you mine and i’m sorry for that" because he knows san is not someone who can be owned and is her own person. that’s who she belongs with, not imprisoned to lead a miserable life like the queen did.
As a siwan fan, i don’t think the ending is bad. I love the story and the bittersweet ending. I think the whole drama is very well-delivered and acted. Won’s attitude as a prince is normal since he’s a prince with royal blood and spoiled with anything he wanted. While rin is just a normal kind-hearted best friend. I’m more on the acting side of siwan. He’s perfect for a complex role. Not all siwan fans think it’s bad, just feeling sad about it. This drama is an underrated gem
Its not a happy ending for me cause The king wasnt happy i know the he smiling but deep inside he was hurt Coz the girl the he love isnt him its complicated i know that they felt the same but theydidnt meant for each other so i hope that they a part2 i hope the they will be together again hope so🙁

For the finale, they live together and had kids, so they didn't changed the ending.... What the amazing thing in this drama is the plot twist, they let the viewers think who really she wanted and liked, by only given the emotions for these 2 man... If you'll watch it again and again, you'll be hurt repeatedly, just kidding, you'll understand why San chooses Rin over Won....

They had to. Actually, Rin has a lot of sacrifices than the prince. And the Prince is aware of that, if you remember the scene when Rin decided to leave because Dan was in the list to be sent to Yuan, but the main reason was that, he just wanted to leave and stay away to San... In terms of love, Rin and San sacrificed their own feelings. For Rin, he decided to leave. And for San, he decided not to choose between the two men.... Prince only sacrificed at the end, if you watched it carefully, he was aware that Rin and San have feeling to each others.
Why you all are feeling sad for Won he married Dan and she is really caring and he will start loving her after marriage and San loves Rin because he was the person who saved her life before and Rin also loves her

Won learned to let go the two people he loves most to be together despite the sacrifices he made for them ... the fact they too had made many sacrifices for him including putting themselves in danger many times.

It's not a happy ending for me, not because the king didn't end up with the girl but because he was left alone and he's in pain. He's in-love, but he fell in-love with someone who can't love him back and the worst is its his dearest friend that she fell in-love with, i know how it feels. It was RinSan who had a happy ending though not the king, so no one can blame me if i wasn't satisfied with it, they could've atleast make him happy even without her anymore.
But Rin also sacrificed his life, his honor, his title, his own family just to save the prince... He's truly a friend and selfless... He puts the prince first before anyone so that's the reason why San fell for him...
The Title of this drama says it's all. Love for a best friend N his one true love. He sacrifice all of it for them to be happy. In d end he had a very lonely life.
The Crown Prince finally grew up and let go of both people, Rin and San (who are in love with each other), whom he loves - one like his own brother and the other, the woman he loves. He finally took on the Teacher's wise advice that to be a good ruler, he will need to make his people happy.
Lmao yes, character wise, Wang Rin is better for San, I think. He's selfless both for Won and for San, he's done his best for both. Especially when he's volunteered himself to Yuan. I think it's harder for Won if he'd pick San because of his position.

I think she means that she usually likes the 2nd lead in dramas but in this drama she likes Won more than Rin. If you will look at it, Won is the main character but acting as the 2nd lead or the friendzoned guy. So technically, you still liked the 2nd lead ehehehe

원작처럼 아예 세자를 사랑에 미쳐서 나쁜 놈을 만들고 린이랑 산이가 더 구르게 했음 쪼끔 더 드라마가 살았을거 같은데..... 세자만 불쌍하고 산이는 둘 사이에서 어장 오지는 이상한 캐릭되고 많이 아쉬운 드라마ㅜ 그럼에도 자꾸 봐지는건 주연들 합이 너무 좋다😆

I watch this drama several times and made me realized that San has her eyes on Soo In/Rin at the very beginning... He is interested on Wang Rin... Just dont be biased... Look at the scenes closely and you will see that San always notices Rin's every move... and Rin always taken aback because he knows that the Crown Prince, his beloved bestfriend, also loves the girl he adores... and loving the future consort is considered as high treason... He is so loyal with the CP and always setting aside his feelings because of loyalty. CP notice that Rin and San likes each other even the Queen and Song In also realized that... dont take the title literally because the word "love" its not just about "intimate" and "romantic" so the title The King in Love is about his love for the girl he likes, his bestfriend, his parents and his country... He realized that you cant force love and if you really love someone you must be selfless, willing to forgive and let go... That is why I really love this story not just because I am RinSan shipper but it is not a typical type of drama that girl will choose the guy because he is the male lead. I bet you will also choose the one like Wang Rin the selfless and almost perfect guy than the guy who is ill tempered and very posessive.

I suggest watching the whole drama to know why San chose Rin over Won and how she sees Won as a friend only. The beginning was confusing because we didn't know who she really likes but from the second part onward, you can see how she looks at Rin. When San said to Won that she likes him, it sounded like a friendly way only because she talked about their friendship right after that.

When the Queen called Rin into the room to help San escape, she was well aware of San’s feelings towards Rin just by looking at her reaction when Rin was called in .... another very obvious clue as to how San feels towards Rin was when she looked at him that morning he came in sight when the CP told her Rin knows the 3rd Master of the Chancellor’s household better than anyone. 😍😍😍🥰🥰🥰

I would probably finish this drama, when I am emotionally stable. It just that I don't have a courage to see and felt the pain Won is experiencing. I would love to see Yoona and Siwan again in a drama.
This drama offers different side of views.. usually romance drama always works on how to hook the strongest/main role with its costar. No matter how the storyline rise low and high, it always managed to end up the leading roles to each other. Kind of a boring plot though. What I like about this story, somehow since the first time I already fought for Rin and San, becoz Rin has the purest heart to both of them, and I saw something that San needs from him. On top of that, he is the one who suffers fighting for both CP and San's sake all the time regardless his feelings towards San. We can say, maybe CP and San wont last if Rin didn't interfered in every critical moment they both faced. Luckily for Rin, San sees his deep and tender feelings since their first meeting and he got the reward finally. So, this is a different angle of love story which is fair to everyone. Many types of love are shown. And what amazed me that it is not easy to differ two feelings towards Won and Rin. The very slight different feelings only lays on which one is rising up a desire to a man and which is to a very dear friend. San got hooked with Rin, when she was saved at the trial. There that moment she finally able to separate her feelings to Won and Rin. As for the character match, if we look carefully, we might think at first that San fits greatly with Won bcoz they're both are such careless persons, free minded, tend to control others esp. Won., and strong headed. They can actually really get along surely after fighting a lot.. 😄😄 What we don't realize that San is actually someone who is long for someone to take care of her, meticulous, carefull, discipline, balanced, always seek for harmony and other wellbeing first, warm hearted and fill her lack in anything else! Those are what she found through Rin. Perfect couple by the end.. 🤗

The drama ending is not sad because san did not end up with won, it is sad because san and rin have to leave won in the end. if you back to the scenes of san and rin they are truly the one who's in love with each other and won's love for san is possessive and he would do everything to make her stay even if she's not happy while rin's love is understanding and would do everything to make her happy.

Some of y’all are not gonna like this but most of the WonSan shippers who say RinSan couple ending together was bad are just biased ImSiwan fans, even though his character was complex and had a good heart i also think he was very insufferable, petty and possessive throughout the drama, he was more obsessed with the idea of sang being HIS rather than actually loving her, from the very first eps u can see how San is rather shy around Wang Rin cause she actually likes him, she’s more outgoing with Won but it was never cause she liked him romantically but because she saw him as a friend, hence, she was more outgoing and playful in contrast with the moments when Rin and her are alone and they both get shy and nervous and don’t know what to say cause THEY LIKE EACHOTHER and since Won is always in the middle they can hardly talk alone and get to know each other. When u watch this drama carefully u notice how San showed from the very beggining she was into Rin. I really can’t stand ImSiwan fans who say the ending was bad just because San didn’t end up with ImSiwan’s character, RinSan couple makes more sense, had chemistry and are adorable on screen, also San would be way happier going in adventures with Rin (we see a glimpse of that happiness in the river scene where they are having a good time together) rather than trapped in the palace with many concubines and a possessive king, which unfortunately was Wang Dan’s fate.

thank you, won clearly only had is own interest at heart, he only loved the idea of possessing san, like she was something to be owned. it was "you are mine" vs. rin’s "i wanted to make you mine and i’m sorry for that" because he knows san is not someone who can be owned and is her own person. that’s who she belongs with, not imprisoned to lead a miserable life like the queen did.
As a siwan fan, i don’t think the ending is bad. I love the story and the bittersweet ending.
I think the whole drama is very well-delivered and acted. Won’s attitude as a prince is normal since he’s a prince with royal blood and spoiled with anything he wanted. While rin is just a normal kind-hearted best friend. I’m more on the acting side of siwan. He’s perfect for a complex role. Not all siwan fans think it’s bad, just feeling sad about it. This drama is an underrated gem

For the finale, they live together and had kids, so they didn't changed the ending.... What the amazing thing in this drama is the plot twist, they let the viewers think who really she wanted and liked, by only given the emotions for these 2 man... If you'll watch it again and again, you'll be hurt repeatedly, just kidding, you'll understand why San chooses Rin over Won....

He ran short of pulling strings and he went to mommy for power! And, Hey Presto - Your wish is my command!
They had to. Actually, Rin has a lot of sacrifices than the prince. And the Prince is aware of that, if you remember the scene when Rin decided to leave because Dan was in the list to be sent to Yuan, but the main reason was that, he just wanted to leave and stay away to San... In terms of love, Rin and San sacrificed their own feelings. For Rin, he decided to leave. And for San, he decided not to choose between the two men.... Prince only sacrificed at the end, if you watched it carefully, he was aware that Rin and San have feeling to each others.

It's not a happy ending for me, not because the king didn't end up with the girl but because he was left alone and he's in pain. He's in-love, but he fell in-love with someone who can't love him back and the worst is its his dearest friend that she fell in-love with, i know how it feels. It was RinSan who had a happy ending though not the king, so no one can blame me if i wasn't satisfied with it, they could've atleast make him happy even without her anymore.
