Jon is absolutely pissed that Richie sold his part of the catalog. His reaction when Howard told him says everything.

i think for Ritchie, he probably had no real attachment to the songs (unless he just did not want to deal with Jon on any level or he needed the money to invest in his solo career) Jon on the other hand appears very much attached to his songs

I really appreciate Jon wanting to keep his music catalog. I understand why other musicians sell their catalogs, but there is something cool about holding on to things that you create and holding them close

People are going to listen to his songs whether he is alive or dead, and whether he owns them or not. At some point every genre of music goes out of favor, as musical tastes change with the generations, so I would say " show me the money"

It's all estate planning. My guess is Jon reviewed it with his adult children and they agree not to sell. The value will increase for sure. The only problem is as Jon's kids have kids and the amount of people involve expands then it gets messy. I would not be surprised if Jon sells his catalogue as he reaches his late 70's.

Why sell your catalogue? If you want to give your family economic security. Sell it.
But if they are economically secure, let the ownership of the catalog stay in the family.
That way, your legacy will provide for generations.

Not really… musical taste change over time. Do you really think people are going to be listening to bon jovi in 30 years??? That applies to any star/band. Elvis, the beatles, harry styles, etc..

I don't understand how this works. If you co wrote a song and half is Jon's the other is Richie's that Jon has control over what happens to that song. Does Jon have fiinal say as to how it's used??
