  • Need a kick drum and a bass note to play at the same time in the same channel? No problemo!
    Little Sound Dj 9.2.L
Original broadcast 27 May 2022 (evening)
The Groove I use here ("G10") is:
    0-03 25%
    1-09
    2-06 50%
    3-06
    (repeat)
As long as every two steps add up to 12, or every four steps add up to 24, you won't mess up the BPM of your song. (All 16 steps on the Groove page should add up to 96.) :) -- Watch live at / kemikziel

Isn't a tick close to 1/60th of a second which corresponds to the clockspeed or frequency of the cpu or apu? My (probably incorrect) understanding was that the number of ticks per row dictates tempo so a certain amount of ticks per row times a certain amount of rows equals the tempo, and with some more math you can write out triplets by adding or subtracting ticks. It's been years since I messed around with famitracker I probably got everything wrong. The right info was widely available on the various NES and chiptunes forums like 10 years ago but chiptunes fell off for a while and most of the forum discussions are gone. So apologies for half-ass remembering

Honestly I never completely understood exactly what's going on under the hood, but that sounds about right. My bud @DEFENSEMECHANISM knows a lot more about the nitty-gritty and has written some interesting articles about ticks and grooves that you might find interesting! defensemech.com/intense-tech/en/06-groovy-groove-and-tick-tricks-part-1.md.html
