@@fabiopaolobarbieri2286 "Greatest" needs to take into account scope of repertoire. I wouldn't describe a conductor as the greatest who didn't conduct opera, for example. It would be more accurate to say that, in the repertoire conducted by Wand, his performances were among the greatest.
@@karldelavigne8134 Since no director conducts everything, and no director conducts everything equally well, this means there is no such thing as a greatest director. Furtwaengler only conducted Italian opera once in his whole life (a pretty good Otello). Toscanini missed most of the modern repertoire, and was also not very good in concertos (just ask Jascha Heifetz). Everyone does different things and does things differently, and everyone has limits to their repertoire.
@@fabiopaolobarbieri2286 I didn't say a conductor has to conduct everything; I was talking about scope of repertoire. You're wrong about Toscanini though: he did conduct music contemporary to him, even as late as the 1950s. He can't be criticised for ending his career in 1954 and missing later music.
So muss Beethoven klingen!
Absolutely the best. I couldn't stop tears throughout entire performance. Herr Günter Wand made the Symphony 6 a supreme reality how we can relive Beethoven's life in music. Herr Wand was one of the greatest conductor in modern history and his Anton Bruckner's "dem Lieben Gott" performance proves he was beyond just a conductor. He conducts with his entire elderly body and soul.
Heard a couple of minor horn glitches in the 'horn call' passages. I played horn so I know how temperamental that instrument is. Probably went unnoticed by most. I think this is a fantastic horn section and soloists. Just makes it more real.
Sometimes, especially with performances like these, I feel that it is a miracle that anyone should ever have thought of music like this.

Günter Wand was probably the greatest living conductor when he passed away. He just got better when he grew older.
Possibly, but his repertoire became, essentially, a handful of works by Beethoven, Bruckner, Brahms and Schubert.
@@karldelavigne8134 And your point is?

Klasse

Such a great conductor and musician
Yes, indeed!!
The orchestra plays at a high level. No question it depends on the conductor.
Günter Wand was great indeed!

Not much, unfortunately! Maybe our colleagues can dig up some more ... This is what we got so far: th-cam.com/video/wXZMbRgbUvk/w-d-xo.html
wow
The horn really messed up at 36:37 and again at 36:43
And he made another mistake at 38:43. 3 mistakes in just 2 minutes. Unacceptable. They need to hire a new horn player
Günther Wand ! Werktreu bis zur letzten Note!
Tijdloze Symphonie💓
