    If you haven't noticed, we accidentally posted a British flag in place of a South Korean one mid way though this video. We promise this was a mistake and not blatant British Imperialism.

      In the US it's said HUN-day. Not because "we" chose it, but because that's the pronunciation in the advertisements. So I assume the Brit ads say hi-UN-day (or is it hi-Un-dye?) We do say JAG-war, not JAG-you-are, but that predates the car and goes back to the cat. It's a South American animal, so I don't know if either the Brits or Americans pronounce it "properly."

    • @MissMartianDCAU
      @MissMartianDCAU 7 ปีที่แล้ว +7

      Tom Crisp the US pronounciation is the closest to the Korean way of saying it. The girl in the video did a rather poor job of pronouncing it. It's actually really not hard at all; it's pronounced: HYUN-deh. Two syllables. Pretty easy. Ignore the "-dai", The last syllable is pronounced as "deh".

      Actually, in my opinion, Mazda should be pronounced as-is, as that's how the Japanese intended it to be pronounced in English, otherwise they would've spelt it differently, as in Matsuda.
      I'm Japanese by the way.

    • @GTvisi0n
      @GTvisi0n 8 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Actually that's because japanese have a lot of trouble pronouncing consonant clusters so that's why they always add vowels inbetween. So yes actually it should be "Maz-da". Same thing with Mitsubishi, they will say "Mit-uh-subishi.

    • @veschyoleg
      @veschyoleg 8 ปีที่แล้ว +31

      +GTvisi0n actually you're not correct about Mitsubishi, tsu is one syllable in Japanese just as shi is. It's just spelt with two consonant letters in English, doesn't mean they say mee-tuh-soo (or suh-hee instead of shi).

    • @leiya107
      @leiya107 8 ปีที่แล้ว +23

      I believe Mazda was founded by a bloke named Matsuda (a common Japanese surname) as is the case for Toyota, Honda, Mitsubishi, etc (all of which are names), and they just Anglicised and stylised the English spelling for it, so that it is spelt Mazda (with the z, or zu, being the closest pronunciation to what tsu should sound like). The fact that it's also the name of a Persian god of light was simply a happy coincidence.
      (Edit: I accidentally added Mitsubishi as an example of Japanese surnames. No, it was founded by a bloke named Iwasaki. I only thought of Mitsubishi because another commentor misguided the pronunciation of Mitsubishi, and coincidentally it has the same "tsu" in it that is also in Matsuda.)
