    Makes sense when you think about it. The only time a manufacturer would use 2 MOSFETs in parallel is if the current load is over the capacity of single unit, therefore when one fails it also takes down the adjacent unit. Replacing one only just leaves a working MOSFET which cannot handle the total load, therefore it blows again. The fun part is while the normal failure mode is to fail short, one didn't.

    • @reeldeelz2940
      @reeldeelz2940 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Is there anyway to detect that is the case prior to replacing one of them? How can one know beforehand that they are installed in parallel?

    • @fradd182
      @fradd182 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Still dont get it: if both parallel lines are dead, why the second mosfet read OK when the first was removed?

    • @crashoverride328
      @crashoverride328 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@reeldeelz2940 Basically there are 3 terminals, if all 3 have continuity between the 2 MOSFETs then they are connected in parallel, and therefore if one has failed, it is safe to assume the second has. In the case with Alex you can see the tracks join both MOSFETs together in parallel. It's safe to assume every manufacturer is cost oriented, there is a reason for every component, if they didn't need a MOSFET it wouldn't be there, sure they could use a higher power unit, but if 90% of their needs are the lower power ones they get a good price on them and it would be cheaper to use 2 in parallel than buy a relatively small quantity of higher power units just for one model.

    • @sebastiaan5111
      @sebastiaan5111 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@reeldeelz2940 gate drain and source are connected in parallel, measure 0 ohms. If the laptop would power on by only removing the shorted mosfet, the other one is still functional. If not then the mosfet also failed but just isn’t shorted.

    • @Shinquapin
      @Shinquapin 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@reeldeelz2940 If you measure continuity between the inputs of both MOSFETs, you will see they are shorted if they are in parallel.

    Greetings to the community. Thanks to Michael and Alex for sharing. Great job. I must confess that at first I just could not understand why the second mosfet would be affected given the parallel configuration. However, after reading the comment given by a commentator, I realize that it leads back to basic electronics where the sum of the currents in the branch circuits is equivalent to the total current produced by the source. Therefore, each mosfet would carry just a portion of the total current and would likely be affected collectively based on their configuration. Thanks guys. Be blessed.

    The two mosfets work like two cranes: they need to work in perfect synchronization: if one mosfets is slower than the other one means that one mosfet takes more load causing it to be overloaded.

    The first mosfet was bad, shorted, however the second one may be bad, open. Remove the shorted one and the short goes away, but even when the shorted mosfet is replaced, it gets no assistance from the bad open mosfet, so it over dissipates, and blows immediately from handling all the current, instead of just half.

    The case of 2 paralel mosfets burned partially ou all in computers is known also with tranceiver's final HF power amplifiers on two or three models of CB tranceivers (Ham international for example) equiped with 2 final power amplifier in paralell. When one of the two PA of the tranceiver is burned, you must change the two PA because if you change only the bad PA, the second PA wich seems good will die quickly after... Then you fix the problem...
    Thank you for all your very interesting videos.
