Thank you! Just cleaned out my carb on Honda 160 engine. Did exactly what you showed in the video and she started right up. You saved me at least 200 bucks!!
Thats amazing! I just recieved a plate compactor with a gx160 honda engine. Got it on the cheap because they couldn't start it. Im going to give this a try for sure. Fingers crossed.
I learned two things on my last Briggs carb clean and diagnosis: When i removed spark plug and pushed possible air/fuel out of cylinder, i cleaned lightly with my starting fluid. When i tested for spark... it lit my light spray off fluid. Hard for my eyes to look for spark... but easy to see a 2 second fire! (I will actually purposely use this method in the future!). Secondly, my single bottom bolt to the carb bowl supplies the main jet! I used my torch tip cleaner kit, dupray, and comoresser air... she fitted right up! Fresh gas, a bit of mystery oil... and my freebee pressure washer is on its way for use!
Thank you 😊 my engine is now going after watching this video the tiny hole in the jet in the carb was blocked very hard to see but I used a bristle from a wire brush to poke clean the engine started straight away also did not have to take apart as much just take 2 bolts of at the cup then use small flat head to unscrew the brass jet used a wire brush bristle to clean it engine going in 10 minutes 😀 👍
thank you for your video but i have a honda 160 air compressor stopped working i changed the carburetor, spark plug, And it does not turn on, could you tell me that it continues to check
I have a greyhound 6.5 it’s similar to those engines. All it needed was a pitcock for the gas tank. Started up and ran beautifully when we poured gas in the carb without the gas tank. Now we got the gas talk on and tried starting it even after we poured a lil gas in the carb it didn’t want to start at all
@@-DIYPRO- yes, apparently the throttle was attached straight to the governor ( it’s on a go kart now) so there was no idle setting, the throttle was fully closed. I ended up having to get someone hold the throttle a quarter of the way open while I start it to get it to fire up.
UPDATE:1 year and still cranks within the first 2-3 pulls. Probably will buy another when this one finally does bite the dust th-cam.com/users/postUgkx43QMbQqu67IZadu9ou8Sg1BdrunMRNqX . No issues at all. Very happy with it.UPDATE: After 6 months of use and over 70 uses I would still highly recommend this pressure washer. It does vibrate a decent amount but never had it “walk” like others have mentioned. No oil leaks, still seems to run like the day I bought it. Still cranks within 2-3 pulls every time. Very happy with my purchase!Have used it about a dozen times now. Plenty of power, cranks up on 1-2 pulls every time. My only complaint would be I wish it was a little taller to make it easier to walk with it (hits my ankles a lot) and that the two hose connections were a little further apart but it hasn’t caused me any issues. Seems to run a good 1-1/2-2 hrs on a full tank, overall a well built machine and definitely worth the money in my opinion.
@@-DIYPRO- I finally figured out why my hole auger wouldn't start: I did not get the torque bar with it and that closes a kill switch near the engine when installed. Took me a day of research. It takes 2 big guys to use. i realize that's a little off topic as this vid is for motor only. Carry on.

@@-DIYPRO- I need help sir my Honda generater need me to keep out Airfilter to have power,if I bring Airfilter back it's don't have power,I already cleaned the cuburater
Choke doesn't matter. Important part is to either run the carb bowl dry or if you have a fuel cut off switch then turn it off so no fuel goes into the bowl and run it til it shuts off. the killer is ethanol fuel sitting in the bottom of the bowl. It will separate and gum up the ports.
If you test it out with some starting fluid and it starts up then dies then you know for sure its the carb and you can replace it. If you shoot carb fluid into the carb and it still doesn't start then it's something else. Check spark plug, check oil level (some small engines have oil level sensors that cut the engine out if low oil)
And what about the air/fuel mixture jet ?? Located under the plastic idle screw, if this is blocked then no starty or at the worst it won’t run clean !!
MegaFlaxman I hope I can get a response on this question. I have a 2008 Honda clone 6.5 horizontal shaft. It was in the original box till just recently when I aquired it. I filled with oil and gas and wouldn’t start. I checked the compression and it’s 28 psi. Checked the rockers and they’re moving like they should. I removed the rockers and physically moved the valves up and down, both seem to be seating properly. Filled cylinder with oil and tried again, still 28 psi. What’s my next move, remove the head and check the valves?
What if it doesn’t run after spraying carb cleaner in the carb? My 240x on my trash pump won’t run. I sprayed carb cleaner and nothing. It has spark. But won’t run. I put fresh gas in it, new plug, and sprayed carb cleaner down in carb. Still won’t run.
@@-DIYPRO- I opened it up and the carburetor was covered in oil and were the air filter sits was also covered in oil. Then my brother found out that a rocker arm was broken in it
My carb got gummed up. Mine, an older 6.5, carb gaskets were definitely not ethanol friendly. The gaskets swoll and broke down clogging the jets.when I took of the bowl there was a goo of melted black gasket and gas slime. I had been running it every day for about a month. Took a weeks vacation. Didn’t drain the bowl. Came back and It wouldn’t start.
I had a spring on my GX 390 underneath the gas tank that broke. Wouldn’t crank for anything. To the shop it went. On another one I have I bought a 14 dollar carburetor and it ran perfecto.
So what if you have a honda 5.5 with less than an hournon it valves lashed properly has plenty of spark plenty of fuel going into cylinder and plenty of air and will not fire at all pops and that's it thank-you!
This video allowed my gx390 to once again crank up and run. It turned out to be the ignition coil. Quick question - I bought my pressure washer (4k/4gpm - gx390 this engine) and after 2-3 pulls it will crank but it takes a little muscle to pull. The pressure washer pump is removed and I made sure the engine is not vapor locked by changing the oil and also removing spark plug (pulled a few times to rotate it). What would cause the pull to be pretty hard? I know this is a bigger engine but what could it be?
@@srdjannakalamic5856 While you're doing that check the exhaust valve rocker arm for cracks. Usually the 160 and 190 engines are the bad ones but while into the valves it only takes a second to check.
I have the same engine I can't understand why it doesn't start, it has compression, it sparkles, I cleaned the carburetor but nothing, even putting gasoline directly into the cylinder it doesn't start, what could it be?
Mine is currently covered in snow or else I'd go double check but I'm pretty sure these have a low oil sensor. That would be my next check. Double check that it has oil and that it's level. I say that because I had a tiller once that tilted the engine slightly and so even though it was full on the one end it was actually low on the senor side and would always shut off.
Then fuel is not getting into the bowl. With the bowl off see if the float is opening and closing (it's the plastic donut looking thing). It should hang down and be letting gas enter. Then if you push it up it should close off. Those get stuck closed and open all the time. I wish I could post picture in comments to show. Hopefully that makes sense.
@@-DIYPRO-Yes...needle valve with spring?...I am going to remove that and clean it up..also remove jet and clean...The bowl itself is super clean...no residue-coloring etc..like you said hopefully its just that needle valve thingy..
Does it run? If not then low ball the price until you feel comfortable knowing you might have to put a lot of work into it. If it runs then how does it sound? Check the oil, if tar then you know they haven't done anything to it maintenance wise. If clean then you know they tried to take care of it.
I change my carburetor and coil for my water pump. It will crank and show signs of starting but will not start. Should I check the valve clearance and compression
