I remember this show I was 13 and just wanted maureen to pass I'm enjoying the re runs on i player Love seeing the old cars how small they were and how little traffic to now and of cause when passing was easy and simple than it is now . 😊 if you see this maureen I'm disabled and it took me till I was 37 to pass. You are an inspiration
Great video of a great series unfortunately it didn’t air in Sweden at the time so i didn’t see it but I think it was a great one. Nice to see Maureen finally pass the test. I know how nervous she was during the test. I’ve been there 11 years ago and still driving.
I love how excited and made up she is when she passed her test I was the same when I passed my test I cannot believe it still now that I can drive and it will be 2 year on 31st October 2020
5:45. Doh! 🤦🤷♂️ How she even thought she passed at the end after that was anyone's guess. She sat there thinking she'd done it - even with the Les Dawson face.
Good old Lava Riva estate, Maureen is right, good in the snow and robust. Russians were coming over in the 90s to buy them off the British and take them back to Russia.
Why was Joan driving with a green L plate? Surely it should've been a green P plate because she'd passed? Also thought Maureen's driving examiner (5 minutes in) was appalling. She was fine throughout the whole test, just as she was approaching the test centre he starts having a laughing chat with her and she lost her concentration. That same examiner passed Danny in a previous episode who nearly hit a van whilst doing a 3 point turn.
Yeah I’ve put a comment about that in another episode because it’s unfair on Maureen he failed her in an automatic but passed Danny in a manual who clearly couldn’t drive it and nearly reversed in to a van and the examiner jumped out of his skin when it beeped but I think these are fake test anyway because in our country it’s against the law to film a driving test even for tv as the program the undriveables even says about it that they cannot film the test part
@@Thisistrulyoddtv_Mark I don't know the law on driving tests in the 1990s but this was broadcasted in 1997, filming driving tests could well have been legal back then.
2:33. How did they film that part? The cameraman is clearly not sitting in the back when the emergency stop happens on the in-car camera and by the looks of things there was a turn in the road happening. Maureen's clearly driving though as you see the back of her head.
Even in 2011-2012 plenty of people were still just faffing about with paper. If you were really keen you might have had a TomTom. Onboard satnavs at that time were usually pretty crap and only found on more expensive cars. I believe it was literally almost 10 years ago that I first went on a long trip (it was about 150 miles) using nothing but the not-long-released iOS port of Google Maps. It was an absolute dream and I got there with no trouble whatsoever.
Was it actually called "three point turn" in those days? Because when I was learning in 2004 my instructor explicitly told me "this is turn-in-the-road and it is NOT a three point turn". You made as many turns as required so long as you didn't hit anything. And these days you're not allowed to film an actual test.
We called it both back then. Turning in the road or 3 point turn. We knew both meant the same because I was taking driving lessons while this was being aired.
What she on about she’s passed and she wants to drive she’s breaking the law if she drives a manual after passing in automatic car because if you pass automatic you can only drive automatic because that’s all my license is for automatic cars and she’s not allowed to drive manual unless with L plate as a learner because she’s not a learner technically but she is if she’s in a manual as her license isn’t for manual and if she’s passed a test in manual then gets the manual license then ok but she currently has license uk full automatic Dave said he would buy her an automatic car but keeps the larda she would need to pass a manual car test to drive it and she cannot pass them manual test anyway as she did manual test 9 time is she for real she didn’t pass 9 times give up just keep on with automatic.
Test standards back in the 90's were less strict than they are now as I didn't see her checking her left mirror before turning left - not even a slight turn of her head. Its also worrying that someone who passed in an automatic feels competent in driving a manual car, I just hope this was for 'dramatic purposes' rather than a genuine decision on her part. Very entertaining all the same.
sandee Beech I agree also makes me worried she feels she could drive the larda after passing in an automatic Nissan micra it puts fear in me how can you go From passing in a small automatic to driving a manual larda the next day that’s Dave’s fault because he told her he would buy her an automatic if she passed in one then he wouldn’t sell the larda I think he did it on purpose because he didn’t want her driving but he cannot stop Her she passed her test and should be driving around now in an automatic they did a this is your life on her and she said she was going back in for the manual test again and exactly two years later after this driving school series she passed her test in manual so can drive both now
I'm pretty sure the rules were the same back then as they are now as far as driving manual and automatics is concerned. I expect it was either that Maureen was mistaken or that the programme makers injected a bit of drama (though god knows why they'd need to, the woman was dramatic enough, bless her).
Maureen passed her test in an automatic and therefore was only allowed to drive an automatic car. She drives the lady afterwards as a learner driver Dave supervising her. At no point is she breaking the law,
People earned less back then, so not really. In 2004 my instructor was £20/hour, although you got a discounted rate of £18/h if you pre-paid for a block of ten lessons.
The whole of the UK was with Maureen through all of this ❤
Thanks for this Joe, I watched this series back in the 90's but I've never seen this episode and its great to see Maureen finally passed.
I hope this gave you some closure after 20 years 😜
I think she started in the 60's
@@curls2006 For me this was must watch TV back in the day. Thanks for sharing!
So pleased Mo passed. She deserved it for her grit and determination!
We all loved Maureen!
Don't get too passionate. I might not want my supper! 😂😂😂

I am glade she passed after all that hard work
Hope the tide didn’t come in too quickly to wash Joan’s Austin Maestro into the sea!

I remember this show! Glad to see Maureen passed. I do find the inclusion of the instructors internal monologue hilarious though. Wtf was that! 😂
I love this wee woman. I hope she’s ok and living her best life.
I don't think she has driven since she passed her test alone, not even with her husband.
I would be excited if I passed after all the 8 test I failed
I really like maureen she is a lovely lady
Danny looks like Jenson Button
and is now the director of this entertainment company, speedy progress
Well done mo..x
Driving School Episode 6 On Tuesday 15th July 1997 On BBC1

Maureen....cleaning the urinals without gloves 😫 🤒 😷 that's gross

I passed my test in 1997 and had Green L plates. They said New Driver underneath in smaller writing. They weren’t compulsory though. UK also.
P is australia in uk its green L but not compulsary
I had green L plates when I passed in 1999, had to have them on the car for so many months.

I had the same in 2006 when I went for my test - turn in the road.

Sorry Maureen but you can’t drive a manual if you passed your test in an automatic. End of.
I'm sure the neighbour with the Defender wasn't stuck.
