@@johnhancockretro Hey John, do you know what a perfectly sealed Super Mario Bros. Print World is worth? It's not an actual game but rather a rare Nintendo collectible which is a graphics arts discs that was produced in 1991. Any thoughts would be helpful. If it could be graded the item would probably be a 9.8 on the scale or higher, it's flawless and has no stickers messing up the front or indentions on the box of any kind. No sun fading on the box also and the plastic seal is immaculate.
Passion projects are so damn inspiring - taking four years of your life to recreate something like the CD-i games is so cool to see done. Awesome video, John - and great work, Dopply!
Wow I’ve never seen this footage of Zelda games before, as a former 2D animator, I can say that the animation is atrocious! Lip synch is just so off and some of the movements just donc make sense at all! Weird zoom in and out, WTF. So weird overall, but a piece of history nonetheless that I’m glad you shared John, keep up the good work!
I had these and Zelda's Adventure back in the 2000's and beat all them then sold the CDI console . are these archived anywhere? Dopply pulled them down.
Thanks John, great vid! I didnt know of these, but I have been curious about these games for a long time. I see them as spiritual successors to Zelda 2 (which I am a fan of and think it gets waaaay too much hate, or at least sense the days of YT/internet) so Im gonna check them out.
So umh.. weird question has anyone gotten these games to work on the steamdeck? I managed to get the game to boot (the 1.3.2 version) but i cant control the menus at all. in faces of evil i managed to get into the game and after that it works in the game but not in the menus (including Inventory) in wand of gamelon none of the buttons work at all
A bigger problem than the background (which could have been solved with some platform shading) was the lack of invincibility frames. You could lose all your health before you could escape an enemies hit box.
I did not know that there were remakes for the CDi games. I am a big Zelda fan, but I never played the CDi Games. The hardware and games are just really expensive and they are bad games. Didn't really want to waste my money on them, but I think I will give the remake a shot. Thanks for bringing this to my attention John!
Yeah I downloaded the remakes as absolutely soon as I could. Considering how much Nintendo tries to distance itself from these titles, I wasn't sure how long it would be available, since they would normally IMMEDIATELY stamp out any and all fan made content. I'll definitely have to play them soon. I'm glad they look to be very accurate to the originals though. Despite the horrible reputation, I've always wanted to try them out at least but they were so expensive, and the console is also expensive AND massive. These 3 Zelda games and Hotel Mario are the only CD-i games I've been genuinely interested in.
Wand of Gamelon! I demand Gamelon make a return to the franchise and as a playable character in Smash Bros Ultimate!! The music in the game is very Zelda.. More like a track from an Eddie Murphy album. I'm gonna go out on a limb here, but i bet the devs never played a Zelda game in their lives.
Would've been nice if they at least remade the cutscenes. They just color corrected them. Well i guess there is something about keeping those classic but awful cutscenes.
This is a Remaster Not a REmake. REmake example : Resident Evil REmake on Gamecube is a Full REmake. Final Fantasy Remake on PS4 is a true Remake. A Remaster is a slight upgrade graphics / control / FPS like Saints Row 3 on Xbox One. This is a Remaster.
I consider it a remake because it was remade from the ground up in a different program. Just because it looks like the original does not mean anything.
These games have a bad name. They're definitely not top tier Zelda games, but the only reason they're "bad" is because the controllers for CD-i suck. I have 2 cd-i 450's and I have all 3 zelda games, and There's just a horrendous input lag or something that makes them "unplayable". That said, if you get use to it, you can play through them regardless. I like them lol and keep one 450 hooked up all the time.
Ah, I was really hoping for a good comparison video. Thanks for all the kind words, John, I appreciate the video.
You deserve every bit of it. I can only imagine how challenging these projects were. Feel free to share any additional info or insight to this project.
I love these games anyhow. Where can you cop the remakes?

"You only need to see these cutscenes once"
Unless you've seen a TH-cam Poop.

The cartoon cutscenes are better than the gameplay in my opinion.
Aaaaand this and the cartoon is why Link was never allowed to talk ever again.
Why do these things ALWAYS get taken down right before I hear anything about them?
I remember seeing the first one in the store and being so bummed that there was a Zelda game I couldn’t play lol
I remember my friend bought one of them played it once and never played it again and never spoke of it again 🤷♂️
😂
How do you get these and play them?
I had these and Zelda's Adventure back in the 2000's and beat all them then sold the CDI console . are these archived anywhere? Dopply pulled them down.
Remake looks a lot better. I noticed you move way faster and you don't have to stab the jems.

Even just watching you pick up rupees by not stabbing the is a big improvement
Hey John awesome video and I'm loving the new intro aswell 😉👍🏻
He took them down, didn't even receive a Cease and Desist...
Good stuff! Thx John!!
Fantastic to see the improved game frame rate. I say more like, is to completely remake the entire game to feel more like an actual Zelda game
great video john
Thank you!
@@johnhancockretro no problem man!

I mean sounds like to controls for the original so great remaster 😂
I think John could do killer cosplay as Zelda's father.
Very interesting video John, I had no idea about this remake. Do you know if this person is also remaking the third Zelda CDi game?
Appreciate your content. Hoping for PSP game compilation part 2 soon.

That CDi looks like it needs new caps.
Any interest by this person to remake Hotel Mario? that one im somewhat interested in.

love to see a port for super nintendo

I once thought about getting the Phillips Shitty-I.....but I couldn't find any interesting games for it. And normally I like obscure consoles!
Were the originals actually made by Nintendo?
no
Nice
👍👍
It would be awesome if they included the reanimated cutscenes in a remake like this. With credit from the artists of course.
