I love the detail that we have seen where Ted keeps that photo Nate gave him for Christmas. It's not in his office, it's in his home, right next to a picture of his son.
I think you're right that Ted didn't know what to say. And if you get a chance to look at screenshots of the article that Trent wrote, it's very little on Ted himself and more on how sport treats mental health issues in general. To me, it feels like Trent was trying to spin it as sympathetically as possible.
Nate’s revealing to Roy that he kissed Keely is so important. It showed how he desperately wants to be seen as a threat to other men in any way other than intellectually. When he says that he deserves to be head butted, he’s telling the truth-he really wants Roy to do that, because then he would be on the same romantic level as Roy.
UCLA Basketball coach Ted mentions (as John Obe Wan Gandalf) is John Wooden ("The Wizard of Westwood"--which is where UCLA is located). At UCLA, UCLA teams scaled unmatched heights that no future organization in any sport is likely to approach. The UCLA Bruins set all-time records including four perfect 30-0 seasons, 88 consecutive victories, 38 straight NCAA tournament victories, and ten national championships, including seven in a row. The GOAT of college basketball coaches.
He also developed a "Pyramid of Success" that listed all the things that he believed a player and a person would need to succeed in life and in sports. I believe that's what inspired the episode title.
Ngl I thought he just made up the name because he knew that none of the team would have any idea who he's talking about either way and decided to just have fun with the name.
Yeah, Ted’s restraint with Nate is 💯 on brand. Especially since we all know from previous episodes where Ted keeps the framed photo of the two of them. But as the series grows we get even more personal insight to see where Nate is coming from.
I love how well planned out Nate's turn was. Like, it goes back to season one (Nick Mohammad, the actor who plays Nate, tweeted a bunch of examples of how they'd been setting this up from the pilot), with one of the big ones being that the scene at halftime between Ted and Nate is the first time since the episode in season one when drunk Ted snaps at Nate in the hotel that they'd had a scene with just those two characters. That was obviously intentional to set up why Nate would feel like Ted suddenly stopped paying attention to him, since they had zero one on one screentime between then and this scene. Also: Nate is pretty heavily inspired by Jose Mourinho, hence why they gradually gave him gray hair throughout this season.
Gotta agree there, buying a club and then hiring a guy, who was a kit man at your old club 1 1/2 seasons ago is just a wild move, can't imagine any West Ham Fan to be happy about it. Ned was like Coach #4 on a Championship team. Then again, it seems pretty on brand for Rupert, who seems to think he knows a lot about football, but his last Coach was this old dude who is so bad at coaching he has "coached every team in the country, including yours". 😂 (good coaches don't change clubs that much)
I think my favorite part of the 'sign from the universe' scene was when that dude wearing Sam's replica kit turns around - and he'd taped over the Dubai Air sponsorship. One of the things US footy fans are proud of is that one of the main writers (Brendan Hunt, who plays 'Coach Beard') is one of us! He fell in love with the game during a stint doing improv comedy in Amsterdam. I' m almost sure that bit in the park came straight from his pen. Oh, and if I had a dollar for every time I had to explain head-butt culture in footy to my non-soccer friends/fam here, I could have bought a minority stake in Wrexham. 🤣
Fun listening to you discuss football strategy at the 21:00 mark. I have no knowledge of “soccer” but I could do a deep analysis of American football strategy on each play…. ❤
Love this reaction series ! If you guys haven't seen "Silicon Valley" (2014-2019), I highly, highly recommend it. It's as brilliant as Ted Lasso, but with a totally different vibe.
A lot of people got confused and did not enjoy Nates turn, which is understandable. But if you look back through this season, and even last season, you can see the signs that the show was dropping. A lot of moments with Nate that were played off as funny by the show, are actually unsettling watching them back. First thing that comes to mind is him spitting at himself in the mirror. You can look at it as Nate spitting on the version of himself that he deems as weak, in order to put on the mask of the confident hard ass who can get things done.
We saw Rupert talking to Nate at the funeral. It really bugged me that Nate tore down the Believe sign and ripped it in two. Nate is a nasty, petty man who can only feel important by making others feel small.
@@joeypotter6051 SPOILER . . . . If Nate had been made head coach after Ted left, I would agree with you. But he wasn't. I don't remember, wasn't he assistant kit man at the end of the series, a job with no authority? I thought they did a good job of Nate's redemption arc, but I will admit, during the first half of the third season, I didn't want Nate to be redeemed at all.
I get what you're saying about Brentford pressing up a goal late and I agree with you but also they would probably play differently in the Championship than they would in the Prem.
Can’t wait for you two to get stuck into Season 3. Everything Nate said was not true. Ted keeps the picture next to his son’s picture in his home. Rupert was in his ear for months.
What an absolutely incredible mini-series so sad to see this one go 😅 not even b******* and this goes up there with some of the greats like band of Brothers (all the band of brothers) Chernobyl, your honor, 11.22.63, the Queen's Gambit, generation kill, The haunting of Hill House, Jericho, Twin Peaks etc etc
One of the subtle things people miss in this show is the guy who was the coach of Richmond that gets fired in the pilot is doing the pundit thing and he holds a grudge against Rebecca for firing him through the entire series. He never has a good word to say about them. HOWEVER, as I know you’ve finished the series and have it on Patreon, he does everything he can to suck up to Rupert. He says how Nathan is a great pick and a good manager until he leaves and then he starts shit talking, saying “he was my kitman”, so he could get the job at Westham. Then he finds out how loyal Rupert is to him (as you’d expect from a giant piece of shit, he isn’t loyal) in one of the last episode when he yells at him and shoves him to the turf. He got exactly what he wanted, the job with Rupert, and then saw Rupert’s true stripes.
@@tracy4290 the final season has been out for over a year, get the hell over yourself. If people haven’t watched it, don’t click on my comment to expand it for the entire thing. OR, if you do, the moment you read “I know you’ve finished the series…”, stop reading. It’s amazing how common sense ISN’T common, and you’re showing that in spades. It’s also tacky to bitch at someone about spoilers for something that has been out and available to watch for this long.

Yes. Which makes me SO mad at Nate.
@@Wizardofgosz To be fair to him he definitely didn't know.

Because Trent Crimm and his glorious hair are legends.

Yeah, he hated being dismissed like that. Roy thought hw was beinh nice, but Nate saw it as an insult to his manhood.
I love how you called it with Nate and West Ham. Can't wait for next week when you dive into Season 3!
Thank you! We have finished season 3 over on Patreon! Incredible series 😀

Yes on the Mourinho similarity, but I’d attribute the rapid greying to Nate’s inner turmoil and stress of his heel turn.
It goes back to Nate's very first appearance, even.
@@cirrustate8674 100%. The first time we see him, he’s flying off the handle. It was all very intentional.
