The TCE ViscousVibe and the Fulltone Deja-Vibe have that crungy whirl of the Hendrix/Trower sound. The others sound good, but the TCE ViscousVibe takes the cake.

I have the Deja Vibe and the Depths both. Anyone that has not tried out The Depths pedal should give it a try, you can do more with it than just use it as a vibe pedal. It’s actually quite fun to use once you understand the controls.

Viscous Vibe: Dark, heavy throb. Digital, not photocell. No EXP jack.
    MXR Uni-Vibe: Noticeably glassy highs.
Unicorn v2: Very mid-rangey and aggressive. Has tap tempo and subdivisions control.
Retro Vibe: Subtle and round. Kind of a delicate sound.
The Depths: Noticeably balanced after fuzz. No Vibrato mode or EXP jack.
Mini Deja Vibe Mk. II: Robust-sounding, yet nuanced throb.

The Viscous Vibe doesn't take an expression pedal but it does have a "ramp" feature, which speeds up the effect when you hold the soft touch footswitch down...and it slows when the pedal is released. Great univibe pedal; small footprint, solidly built...and with the excellent tone print function!

I agree on some of the takes. Clean with strat, definitely Deja Vibe or TC. Post LP and Fuzz I think they're all good. With the OD after the vibe, I thought the vintage Deja Vibe was muddy and preferred the Unicorn, but I suspect the modern setting on the Deja Vibe would be closer to the Unicorn. Even though thought the mid clipping was harsh on the Unicorn on this demo, I'm think I'm going to get it since the tap speed is such a cool feature. I can always turn down the tone nob on my Strat if I want to sound more like the Deja Vibe. Suspect you can't go wrong with any of them since they're just one component in a chain. Edit: too much clipping on the Unicorn, getting the Deja Vibe. Like them all though.

I've owned many univibe pedals. My favorite is the Jam Pedals Retro Vibe mk.2, which is the one in this demo. It has an internal trem pot that controls how intense the effect is. From barley there to Hendrix/Trower style heave univibe sound.

    • @mattgilbert7347
      @mattgilbert7347 ปีที่แล้ว

This demo must have the trim set to "barely there".
It's the best Vibe I've played. EHX Good Vibes is underrated but needs to be powered with a 9.6-9.7v adapter supplied with the unit. If you don't mind that it's my second fave, Danelectro Cool Cat and The Depths tied for third. CC is basic and sounds legit vintage, Depths is super versatile and tweakable. It's like a heavily modified 2-stage phaser.

  • @JohnoO_O_

Amazingly, the MXR is about the cheapest pedal in this comparison, and sounds the best. I've had the TC, way too fast without a toneprint. The Earthquaker just didn't cut through the mix, also too many controls. I would like to try the Fulltone, though here its been dialed in faster than the others.

With the TC and MXR up front, and the legit lamp vibes later, you can hear the basic difference between sims and the real thing. The Depths is known for being different, with a cleaner EQ ,and lack of some of the syrupy pulse.

I own/owned 3 of these pedals: MXR, Viscous Vibe & The Depths.
The Depths is currently on my board as it sounds much closer to a Univibe because of the photocell inside and it handles dirt very well. The Viscous Vibe is a good digital vibe and the toneprint opens up an array of different options which makes it versatile. But the MXR I ended up selling because it sounded like a very bad phaser when in hi-gain/distortion and almost useless if not in clean.

I mean i wanted to dial my favorite speed i have on another vibe pedal and couldn't get it, because it was too slow in one position and when i moved the knob 1 mm further it was too fast. who designs such crap? Whelp, lots to say...... I guess first, never listen to one TH-cam video demo to make a decision...... listen to lots of them. Some people's playing style suit different nuances in the vibe genre and it can be confusing. Second, many people commenting have never actually had the opportunity to play and hear an original Univibe and so the conversation gets really varied. Some people like more treble, or this or that, or they get stuck on an idea or a name like one of the early boutique clones ..... Fulltone, Mojotone, Sweet Sound etc etc. ...... I have been lucky to own for many years an outstanding, really strong sounding 1969 original Shin Ei Univibe and I have had most of the clones along the years. Starting with a Deja Vibe, serial number under #75! It was great very Trower and phasey but not as much Machine Gun. .... Subsequent Deja's just were missing something..... Great but not quite there. Cut to the chase, for years the best I've had was a MJM Custom Shop 60's Vibe, . ... side by side VERY close to my original. A builder has to source out and use some key NOS components to get there. Currently I must say that the top of the heap is the JAM PEDALS Retrovibe! I don't know what they're doing there in Greece but this guy has nailed the sound, the vibe, the swing, and throb. So many over accentuate the throb when you turn up the depth to the point where it's too hard of a thump. It's over compensation for something lacking. A killer UniVibe sound is SO nuanced that it's insane. That's why so many people continue to try. A good one sounds Big and deep, without sounding overdone. Open and dynamic. So many clones sound really clever but small and narrow especially with drive. My original when hit with a fuzz or drive stays big and open. It's uncanny, and it's the difference.

So the JAM Retrovibe wasn’t set to the Vibe mode. You were running it in the chorus mode

None of them with the option were on Vibrato. The classic Univibe sound is in chorus mode.

JHS hands down for me. Nothing else even came close. MXR and EQD were distant seconds.

    Things that matter:
    1. footprint / pedalboard real estate
    2. accuracy - clean the driven.
    3. extra functionality..
A used TC seems to be a steal, sounds good clean and is small. That said, I hated the fuzzed tones (none sounded great with that) - vibe first! OD was marginally better.. Deja was the most accurate, but large and 2nd most expensive.
If you want a small footprint vibe that is accurate, buy the Dry Bell Vibe Machine V2. Nice review.

Jam Retrovibe by far. Sounds closest to the old units, and it is the only one that sounded right with the fuzz.

The best isn't here. Foxrox Aquavibe.

100% this. It's pricey but it kicks even Deja Vibe in the curb.
EDIT: I have to add that FoxRox as a manufacturer is beyond amazing. Best analog octaver in the world, too.
