Thanks for this video. I was basically looking for this exact product, but didn't know the right search terms. Using a term from this video (ws2811) I was able to find them (and quite a bit cheaper too).
As of 2021 It looks like there are some new lights on the block, most people know about those addressable and mappable "Twinkly" lights, but it seems the Chinese have made cheap clones which look pretty capable, and about 25% the price, although appear to be let down by the hastily programmed controllers that don't really offer much in the way of sequences, but the LED strings themselves look pretty hackable (I think some people have reverse engineered the protocol already, so no doubt Arduino libraries will follow shortly).

If you want to hide the circuit boards you could try wrapping the bases in magic tape. Automatically frosts whatever you put it on.
