- In springtime the Going-to-the-Sun Road is open exclusively to hikers (walkers) and bikers (no cars), providing a quieter glimpse into Glacier National Park. On this day (May 4, 2024) we walk from Lake McDonald Lodge (current closure location on the west side) to Avalanche Lake. This trek is about a 17 miles round trip.
Long walk! Fantastic. 🇺🇸
It was - thank you.

Thank you so much! The mountains were showing off yesterday 😁🏔 Great day for venturing into the wilderness 👍
Makes me definitely want to come back and visit in the off season!
Glacier is amazing in every season!
We enjoy the "quiter" season in Glacier as much as the peak hiking season. Pretty extraordinary. Thank you, much appreciated 🏔👍

Glad you like them! Thank you.
I always enjoy your videos. Thank you for posting.
So nice of you. Cheers!
That is a beautiful hike, I have done the trail but not from Lake McDonald. It is so nice not to have all those cars on the Sun road. Also, it's pretty cool to see a Grizzly. Have a wonderful week!
Yes it was! Thank you.
Normally Avalanche is a short hike. This certainly adds an element of toughness to it! 👊🏻🇺🇸🤠
Yup - Go Pokes
The two of you are awesome together! Love your videos ….. the cute small deer didn’t seem to be afraid of you at all.
Thanks 👍
Thanks for sharing guys! Snow is melting fast...wow!
You bet. Cheers!
Gorgeous hike! Wildlife and amazing views. Super cool!
Yes it was! Thank you.
Thanks for taking us on this hike. It’s an amazing place. That seems the right time of the year to visit Glacier. 🙂👍
Any time of year is a good time in Glacier Country. Thank you!
Could see a recent avalanche at two oclock, two thirds up on the mountains.
So cool that you noticed and have the experience to know what to look for 👍 We thought that also standing at the lake 👊 Much appreciated, here's to enjoying the wilderness 🏔
Good eye! 👍 There are a bunch of them that are hard to make out from that side of the lake without a better zoom. That’s why they call it Avalanche Lake. Thank you and Cheers!
Nice eye for it
Avalanche Central
It is
It’s awesome to see a hike to Avalanche this early in the season. How was the walk on the road? Do you think it will open soon?
Road walk was fine. Lots of bicycles but not bad. Lots of folks bike to the trailhead then hike. Hard to say when it will open. Up to the park folks.
What kind of camera do you use?
We are currently using a GoPro 11. I think it is a great camera for hiking because it is durable, water proof, and very easy to carry. The only thing it doesn’t have is good zoom in capability. Enjoy the wilderness!
For those of you looking for a bucket list item, this may be helpful 😁👍🏔
Definitely!
For sure! 👊🏻🇺🇸
