I love my 4.25 I waited and got one not to long ago.. mine not a lemon runs how it’s pose to factory settings out the box 🤷🏾♂️ and I’m thankful for that
About the sluggish slide. You mentioned it he gun was straight out of the box, but didn’t mention if you lubed it. 1911, like to be wet, for those who might not know.
After all of the reviews I've seen, including yours, the only 2011 style guns I would buy (cost considered) are the Bul Armory SAS and the Stealth Arms Platypus. Everything else comes with too many "gotchas" or requires a second mortgage to purchase.
Just went over 1000 rounds on my 4.25. Love it !!!!! The only hiccup the entire time was one failure to lock back on a 17 round mag. That was it at about 300 rounds. Never happened again. Mounted a Cyelee Wolf X Pro (do a review on it please !!!), an Olight PL-3 (New generation model), and an EGW magwell and slide lock ...... gun shoots perfect and has become my favorite weapon. Downside, though ...... My pistol with 20+1 mag weighs 53.15 ozs (3 lbs. 5 ozs.)..... LOL, that's heavy !!!!! But it shoots so flat and feels so good to shoot. Love it !!!!! 🙂
I have one of the first run. Bought it two days after release. I have over 2k rounds on mine. It is a pleasure to shoot. It does not like some ammo but mostly perfect range fun.
I did the same and waited a year. My 4.25 is on the way along with some EGW and atlas parts before I drop mu video. Great video as usual Bro.. Keep going
I hope they come out with more models. I absolutely love these guns. I have both and have put almost 10k rounds through both and they run amazingly well.
Thank you. My format prevents any personal bias (good or bad) from changing performance of the gun and sometimes I simply don't want to be part of the noise. Journalism, not influence is my goal and mantra.
Love the review as always. Double stack 1911's (2011's) always seem to have an extra impressive presentation. I'm with you on the 'U' notch alignment problem, it should be simple but isn't.
The U notch is great for a quick and somewhat sloppy sight picture. Like XS Sights Big Dot it's great for getting on target, not so great for precision.
"Not leaving me excited" Being a gun media journalist with a continuous flow of new models of pistols, I cant imagine you getting excited over anything made lately.
They have to do something significantly different or better to really work me up. BUL Armory's equivalent to this did that, but it was purpose built while the Prodigy has a bit of an identity crisis.
I’ve never had a fiber optic come loose but I have changed them for custom colors. Just heat the end with a bic lighter from a half inch or so away, it will tighten.
The failures of the aluminum case were a surprise, I more expected the steel case. During the height of the "Great Ammo Crisis" I purchased a thousand rds of Wolf 9mm for range use. In my Springfield Range Officer MANY rounds required three hits to discharge. Good thing I was alone on the range; no one became nervous. I understand your "no reason to hate on it" statement. Think I wrote a fitness report like that once or twice.
@@GBGunsThe Prodigy was made with duty in mind…which explains why it has a heavy trigger out of the box. So I think it can be considered a duty gun…definitely needs to be broken in and probably tuned before carrying though.
First off love your show…hands down one of the best straight to the point review channels I’ve come across. So I’m getting my working man’s dream gun this next March. So far my options are The CZ Shadow 2 Compact, The Springfield 4.25 Prodigy, The Kimber KDSC9, Dan Wesson DWX Compact, or my favorite this far The Bul Armory Sas II UL 3.25. Which of these options do you think will be the best bang for my buck? I’m 5’5’’ 120lbs so little guy with small hands. One last option as well but the 14-16 wait time is maybe overboard The Stealth Ams Platypus.
Thank you. I haven't shot all on your list, but know some of them have been given a lot of hype. I'm currently at the Guardian Conference using the BUL Armory. The 4.25 "SAS II TAC" is more comfortable to shoot, but the little 3.25 UL is pretty incredible for a lightweight small gun
The Springfield 4.25 requires a break in period , best if you breaking by polishing in some wear. The best set up for me has been 9lb recoil on 115/124 grain w EGW kit and polished the disconnector to avoid hang up, the slide stop is best to get 10/8 performance extended I’ve run 800 rounds thru mine w no fail “ must run wet “
At the time I filmed this you could get a more-dedicated carry gun with teh BUL Armory SAS II TAC 4.25 for a couple hundred more www.gbgunsdepot.com/post/bul-armory-sas-ii-tac-4-25 and now you can get a much-more afordable option from Tisas: www.gbgunsdepot.com/post/tisas-1911-carry-ds but ultimately it comes down to what your intended use is and what your preferences are: www.gbgunsdepot.com/post/picking-the-right-double-stack-1911
12:18 Excellent shooting sir and that little swinger plate is awesome!!! I personally would like the 5" for custom work as I heard the 4.25" couldn't have one of the comps done or something along those lines but they may have figured out by now too. I've really wanted to get a double stack 1911 and for the money it seems like a no brainer.
A co worker was trying to trade me a prodigy for my customized macro. I took it out to test fire and it had light primer strikes every 3rd round or so with a variety of ammo. Kinda chapped my ass being he had to know that shit he didn’t think i was going to test it out lol.
I just got my prodigy 4.25 carry. I have Hornady seld defence for my edc rounds and haven't shot them. I need to since you got a failure to fire round. Did you have anymore issues with that ammo?
Unfortunately I have neither the time nor the resources to dive deeper, the WFD test is just a guideline. HCD is also made in a wide variety of weights and pressures, if you really like it I'm sure you can find one what works.
Size is a matter of your own size, clothing style and comfort threshold. I do think it's a bit on the heavy side. The BUL Armory SAS II TAC 4.25 is the same size, but lighter. I have a comparison video of the two coming out tomorrow.

I meant that this is one of themore affordable doublestack 1911s. This was clearly never intended to be an EDC, but it's less than half what other brands ask for something similar.
I have to ask the question. Why do you and Tia keep breaking your point of aim and lowering your weapon while you're shooting? What are you looking for?
Dude! It’s not you! I really wanted one rented it at my local range and yes though it needed break in time. So I came back in approximately a month the trigger still sucked the rail ran gritty and people I spoke to quoted $200 for a decent trigger 😢!
This gun is perfect for anybody trying to get into the double stack 1911 platform. Not to fire it or something, but nothing trains your malfunction clearing just like this trashfire of a gun. Worthwhile investment.
I would never recommend a prodigy. I got one and took it home . When I got home i showed it to a friend. When the gun fell apart in my hands. Springfield said the won't fix it. So in my book fuck the gun and fuck the company.
