  • Here is something a bit different with a Japanese maple bonsai that is being re-potted. This video shows you how I trim and cut back the roots on bonsai. Same process as you would have see in my other videos. This is a beautiful medium sized Japanese Maple.

Matt Brennan finally got the right mic and covering for the wind. Hopefully no more issues now. Thanks

Although the audio was fine before, it defo sounds better now. Tree also looks great. I’d love to see it in spring.

... i have a question for you: do you live in an area where the cold weather does not get below freezing? And if you do live in an area / climate that there is freezing, .. do you temporarily plant your potted bonsai into the ground (to keep the roots from being harmed) .. and then perhaps cover up the base of each plant with, say, leaves etc ..?!? I guess what I am asking is ... how do you winter them...?

Our conditions here are very mild in winter. No freezing but gets close some nights. I don’t need to overwinter then as you described. Best thing to do is find a bonsai club in your area and seek their help.

David I think most trees look better in oval pots, only exception is for the very old and very big Deciduous and mountain collected pines/confers. A very nice looking tree. What happened to the pig man in the back ground? hahaha

Hi. I wanted a miniature birch tree for my room. Would it kill the tree to cut the trunk when it gets to be about 4 feet?

Bonsai don't do well inside unless they are indoor trees. Birch trees are definitely outdoor trees only. You can definitely cut the trunk when it gets to 4ft and create a smaller tree.
