Delta A330-300 Very hard landing in PHX

- I found out that Delta fly's only widebody planes between MSP and PHX so since I haven been on the A330-30 yet I decided to give it a try. Definitely a strong landing after adding in lots of power at the end!

The camera would shake if it were a hard landing
Had a landing at PHX on USAir once I couldn't believe the main gear didn't break. Most are like this one though when it's really hot.
Yeah I learned that the hard way 🤣 several times
@@jmantravels Yeah... that extreme heat and aircraft seem to fight each other. My USAir incident was in the 90s on a 737-200. I don't think the plane even flared. I just remember the ground coming up REALLY fast and BANG! Several overhead bins popped open. But we rolled out and taxied to the gate like normal.

compared to some of the many 737-900ER landings i have had, that wasn’t that bad. 7.5/10. And PHX is very hot, which reduces lift thus, making landings harder.
Yeah on approach you can hear the engines powering up at certain points to gain speed. I’ve landed in Honolulu a few times in a 737-900ER and 767-300ER once and those were harder than this.

In my opinion with little bit of physics, when strong winds hit behind the plane , the pilotes have to reduce speed quickly when arriving at the beginning of the runway ( as you can see the slow down before touching the ground) . As a result the plane plunged few metrers and the landing go little hard.
Whenever it’s a really hard landing and we begin deplaning I always compliment the pilot with : “ Good job Navy!”

That was incredibly butter actually, considering how old delta planes are and the fact that the plane is going 200KMH while landing and of course the runway is pure tarmac not a marshmallow, what a landing, Bravo 🎉

Your first flight? I had one in St Louis where the plane bounced down the runway several times. Once in Ontario, Ca. we came in sideways due to the high Santa Ana winds, then bounce down the runway. Each time passengers were screaming.

Its called a crosswind landing and what your pilots preformed is called a "crab" approach/landing where they come in facing the general direction of the wind, still keeping them aligned with the runway lmao

Experienced a rough landing on a Delta A330 years ago from EHAM (Amsterdam) to KSEA (Seattle). They Ryanair'd it so hard, it even knocked one of the ceiling panels right off.
I thought it was pretty smooth, actually 😅

First off, not a rough landing, just a very stuck landing, which is what you want when you are bringing such a monster of an aircraft into land. Second, even if it was hard, you virtually couldn't tell, especially in an A330. What the 330 has is something called trailing landing gear, which basically absorbs impact on landing and helps better the landings and performance on the aircraft itself.
How fast those things just reverse is amazing

It looks kinda good, some people think that just because it's an A330 it means that the pilot must float with the plane on the runway and land without smokes...

Usually the heat has stuff to do with the airplane landings might’ve came from somewhere cold. Or maybe could’ve landed late and had to get it down.

That didn't look so bad, although it's not easy to tell from a video. It's probably due to the gusty desert winds. They have to keep the speed up in case they have to go around. So they wait until they are over the runway and then they drop it onto the ground. I have had many such landings in Chicago and Denver in the winter and in Phoenix and Vegas in hot weather.
I’ve been through some hard landings. That didn’t seem too bad. Phoenix can have some hard ones due to the heat and atmospheric pressure.
My landing into Vegas today was super hard! Couldn't believe there was no damage to the aircraft.
That was a pretty normal landing. Sick of people complaining on YT about perfectly normal landings.

I got talked into one trip I was freaked out by terrorism and lack of security My Sister in law worked for the airline she got me tickets She said that’s non sense I woke up to 911 and my flight was cancelled of course and happened to be one of the planes with unexplained box cutters stashed in the seats. I had to rent a 40 foot UHaul to get home 1200’miles Since I had the truck I figured I would move my new GF down to Fl so we put her apartment in it and she’s been with me 20 years. Never a dull moment in my life so I lay low .
@@AboxofMonsters I was speaking to the original comment... but I hear you... with what I do for work I've been in many commercial aircraft hangers and spoke with and been shown by many aircraft mechanics of just what actually holds these things together.... it would make most turn green lol

It may have felt like a hard landing because the speed wasn’t constant the sped up a few seconds before reaching the threshold.
Oh damn that sure was hard, I remember being in a 737 southwest plane when we came in short final into runway 27 San Diego and it was raining, and the landing was so hard, and the force of the nose going down was pretty big

Sink rate seemed a bit high, spooled up the engine which helped a bit, but I think he flared a bit too soon

I was once on a delta airlines flight from dtw to atl in a 757 and the landing was so hard my phone fell out of my hands and the pilot had to make an annoucement saying that the plane was ok

Wow! You can hear the pilot add power about a quarter way into the video. Must of thought he was going to come up short, then he pulled the power all the way back once over the run way and the plane basically just “fell out of the sky”, should have kept the power in a bit until the wheels touch😅

Pilots add power all the time, there’s so many factors that come into play when landing. Btw It’s called a flare when an airplane comes in and you hear the engines cut. When you say “falling out of the sky” did you know that on final approach every aircraft is basically falling out of the sky? Landing a plane is a controlled crash basically. We add power to adjust for landing but sometimes passengers who are ignorant to these procedures don’t understand and get scared. This landing was not 100% perfect but it was textbook and the pilot did a great job. It looks like it was hot outside the hotter it is the less lift an aircraft has. But like I said lots of factors come in to play when landing. Keeping the power on until landing is not something we do since we have to reverse thrust immediately to slow the aircraft down so you passengers don’t come with us to the end of the runway and ride the slide to emergency services. So in short the pilot did exactly what he was supposed to do. Next time you fly just sit back relax and know that whoever’s upfront as thousands of hours and is in that right seat for a reason
