Currently driving a 208 from 2014, but ordered the Mazda 2 hybrid in September. So I’ll be very happy once I receive the car in March 2023. Current delivery time is about 6-7 months in NL 😢.
@@CObaLT070 Personally, it’s difficult and not fare to compare a brand new car with a different engine with the older Peugeot. I received the car in early March 2023 and already drove 20K plus kilometers (basically home/office and holidays in Europe kilometers). We also drove from The Netherlands to Lake Garda in Italy for summer vacation, which was so relaxing. The total drive, via German, Austrian, Swiss and Italian roads and scenery went so smooth. The car is fast enough on the German roads (it’s limited till 181-ish km/h) and powerful enough in the Alps (meaning, you won’t lack behind other cars and your engine is not overblowing in rpms). Also, what is really great about the hybrid engine, is the consumption… I haven’t changed my driving style (meaning, I’m not your usual driver that always stick to the maximum speed limit… (in NL it’s 100km/h till 7 pm)), but average consumption in the summer was 26km per litre (dual ac was and is always on) and in the winter (when I’ve the heater, seat heating and steering wheel heating on) it’s 20 km per litre. If I did stick to speed limit and regenerate more I did hit 28 km per litre… also, during our summer vacation we noticed that when you use B mode in the mountains downhill you will regenerate so much energy that the consumption goes well to 28-30 km per litre… But in my case, as I live in NL the car usually regenerates in the city when you brake more. Now about the design… it’s a Yaris with a Mazda logo and I really don’t care. I got a better deal at the Mazda dealership than at Toyota’s, besides that I stand out because the different logo 😅. I like the design of the car, it’s compact yet a bit sporty. The interior is also perfect. I can imagine for taller persons (over 1.85cm) it may be a bit tight, but you can adjust the height of the drivers and passenger seat, to accommodate yourself better. At the back, I can imagine that 2 grown adults would be very tight, but for kids or smaller / shorter persons it would be fine. Also, it’s doesn’t have a large trunk, but everything fits perfectly for two adults to go on a 2-week holiday somewhere in Europe. Fyi, at Mazda’s you had three trims and several packages available. I decided to go for the second trim (Agile) with the comfort pack. I didn’t want to go for full specs, because the features are not necessary. Maybe in the future I would think, hey, I want a panoramic sunroof and blindspot monitors, but at this moment I am very happy with my car.
@@CObaLT070 It’s really a different driving experience compared to the Peugeot 208, but it’s also not really fair to compare a new car with a hybrid engine with a (at that time) 9 year old Peugeot with a difficult engine. I am almost driving the Mazda 2 Hybrid for a year and I’ve done 22K, these kilometers are mainly from home to office and a lot of trips (within and outside NL). To be honest I went to the Toyota dealer first, but with the trim and options I wanted the car was more expensive than at Mazda’s. I also don’t mind it has another logo. At least sometimes people look confused when they see a Mazda logo as if I have put it on 😆 Anyway, at Mazda’s they simplified the trims and options compared to Toyota’s. At Mazda they had 3 trims and a few options, but the trims had already a lot of options already. So I went for the middle one (Agile) and a comfort package. I really didn’t find it necessary to go full specs, because I don’t need a head-up display or blind spot detectors. Anyway, I bought this car mainly because of the hybrid engine. The consumption is great, at least considering my driving style (which is completely the opposite of a docile grandma). My average consumption in the summer (dual A/C is always on) is 26 km per litre. I have also tried to drive 100 km/h on the freeways for a week (in NL our speed limit from 6 am to 7 pm is 100 km/h, but I usually drive faster… 🫣) and the consumption was 28-29 km per litre. During winter time with lower temperature and wet roads, I put the heater, seating heater and steering wheel heater on, and average consumption is 20 km per litre. For comparison, I did 18 km per litre in the summer with the Peugeot 208, but the Peugeot only had a central A/C and heating system, so the consumption in winter times was not that bad, around 16 km/l. We also went to Lake Garda with the Mazda 2 Hybrid. It was such a smooth drive. The car is fast enough on the German roads and doesn’t lack behind in the Alps in Austria and Switzerland. A year prior we went to the German Alps with the Peugeot and it was totally not comfortable. We needed to refill the motor oil twice… Anyway, the Mazda is spacious enough for two adults on a holiday in Europe. I can imagine that it would be very tight if you would bring children or friends with you in this car. We don’t have kids and at this moment the size of the car is fine (easy to park everywhere!). We would probably size up if we would have kids in the future, but that’s future talks 😅 I do have a few things to note though! The maintenance of a hybrid engine is set on 15K (on a normal engine it’s 20K) and cost around €300-350 and the info display for the fuel is not accurate. In case the display says that you only have like 40 km left, you still have your reserve of 5-6 litre, but it had me stressing a couple of times that I needed to go to gas station asap. So you need to learn driving with that 😅. Over all I think that the looks (interior and exterior), engine, prize/quality is really attractive for a consumer.
Just ordered the Mazda 2 hybrid, the reason I chose the Mazda over the Toyota is that the 2 has 16 inch wheels instead of 17 inch on Toyota and the Mazda has head display
I get about 800-850 km per tank. Is that normal? I was expecting 100-150 more. I was wondering if any other Mazda 2 hybrid drivers can help me by telling me their experience.
In Greece, this one is 100 euros cheaper than the Yaris on each trim but you'll always have the disadvantage to explain all the time that it's a Toyota..
Do you know if all the trim options (base spec to top spec models) of the mazda 2 hybrid have good quality doors (sound good when closing)? I was looking at getting the agile spec with the comfort pack but want the doors to be good quality too. Always love to watch your videos
I watched your driving tests of new fiesta and Ibiza, also ofc this Mazda 2. All 3 models are nice in my opinion (but I didn't test them), so which one you liked the most? Does this Mazda/Yaris compete with sporty feelings that could give the fiesta? For the Ibiza I'm not sure, it's been using almost the same engine since 2017 (115 ho went to 110)
Paw I think Mazda 2 is very good Yaris ....very economical and practical. If you need something more fun Fiesta....Ibiza is also great it kind of have both ...
This is a shame for Mazda. At least they could change the boaring fun driving, the design and the fit and finish of Mazda that are much better than Toyota,,if its same, why to buy mazda at all????????
Why can'tMazda produce their own hybrid vehicles or at least, give their cars a different interior/Exterior design and tech? It's damaging for the brand to be the same as another car, why would anyone buy this over a Yaris?
Because Mazda isn’t a huge company with the kind of deep pockets that Toyota and Honda have. This way Mazda get to have a full hybrid in the range for no R&D outlay which leaves them able to focus on Skyactiv-X and EV
Sad if this will be the new Mazda 2 for everyone, You can tell that this ugly Toyota interior wasn't made by Mazda, Mazda is known for reliability and nice designs.
I think you will find Toyota has a better reliability record than Mazda, I have just ordered a mazda2 select, and reason is first it’s a Toyota, second the Mazda has 16 inch wheels as apposed to 17inch on the Toyota excel, and the Mazda has a head up display, if the Yaris had those on the excel I would have gone with the Toyota, and the interior is nicely designed and simple to use
Well that electric garbage as you call it was developed 25 years ago by Toyota, the mild hybrid is not worth the Ford it is based on are a decade behind some manufacturers
That’s because it is a Toyota, nothing new, Mazda needed to lower its co2 emissions over its range or get fined, who better to collaborate with than Toyota who have 25 years of hybrid experience, and no different than Skoda or seat using vw cars, or Dacia using Clio underpinnings, it’s all down to cost, this is a good move for Mazda working with Toyota far better that being with Ford……who left in 2015, in those days Mazdas even use to rust in the same places as Ford cars
I am wondering why Mazda sell this Toyota like car under its Brand name? A car with no philosophy and this nasty infotainment screen of Toyota. Mazda 2 is much more Codo philosophy and much more quality and beautiful car! Really disappointed with Mazda. They could just take the Mazda 2 and make it just full hybrid! And if the could not do it just don’t sell hybrid Mazda!

How it feels after Peugeot? I also have Peugeot right now, but 308. And ordered same Yaris.

Driving in B-mode is not for regenerating more energy. In the contrary. It is Break mode, only to drive down the hills. Read the manual … .
Yes true 👍👍my mistake
It is weird since the B-mode in many other cars is for regen-braking, but some petrol cars with a CVT gearbox also come with a B-mode.
Have a Mazda logo on a Yaris, that feels weird
Yes David 😁
My wife and me we test one today and I must say wow rely good drive 👍🏻 so she got it and she can’t wait to get it by next month 😂 5 star ⭐️
Nice 👍

Thanks for video ! Mazda 2 is like Yaris :)

Shouldnt complain at all. I get 600km max with mazda’s actual own mazda 2.
Great video thank you Dan - what a super little car with loads of features, what's not to like !!
Yes it is cool 👍
In Greece, this one is 100 euros cheaper than the Yaris on each trim but you'll always have the disadvantage to explain all the time that it's a Toyota..
Hehe 😁
Advantage of this over the Yaris is on the Mazda you get a 15 inch wheel option, a lot comfier ride than the 16 inch wheels on the Yaris
What is the best selection for fuel economy.

Thank you Dan. I noticed something’s missing from the dashboard. Where is the middle supply air grills.
Good question 🤔

@@annefleur1966 thanks. It’s hard to see.

Fiesta and Clio are better to drive but this Yaris/Mazda 2 hybrid is FAR more economical around town
Engine is R3, not R4 :)
Yes right 👍 3 cyl
Hhawu it's have a lane assist as well 👌👌👌.
😁👍
I am not sure but I think the Yaris is 115bhp instead of 92 in the mazda
Yes right 👍
The petrol engine has 92hp, but the combinated hybrid power has 116hp
So this is made by Toyota now, while the previous 2 was still built by Mazda?
Yes right 👍
But based on a crappy Ford Fiesta, that’s a good enough reason not to buy it
4 or 3 cylinder ??
I think all the motors in mazda and yaris is 1.5, 3 cylinder.
3 👍
Nice Yaris 2

Why can'tMazda produce their own hybrid vehicles or at least, give their cars a different interior/Exterior design and tech? It's damaging for the brand to be the same as another car, why would anyone buy this over a Yaris?
Simple reason is down to money, and they needed Toyotas hybrid experience to avoid fines over co2 emissions
Because Mazda isn’t a huge company with the kind of deep pockets that Toyota and Honda have.

Para comprar la copia prefiero quedarme el original
Wtf this looks exactly like toyota yaris interior ??
It IS an exact Yaris copycat. Since Mazda does not yet offer a hybrid power train (now changing with the CX-60), they just rebadged the Yaris.
Yes right 👍🙂
It is Yaris 😁
For Fox sake get a move on !!!
🙂👍
My eyes.
The mazda guys are lazy.. they have run out of ideas to design a new mazda 2?
🙂
Bro this is a yiaris why should you buy a mazda 2 with 92hp and instead get the toyota yiaris with 116hp. No dealer and its a toyota. Cheers

we want a normal car and not an electric one .. I have a Mazda 2 of 2008 model and I do not change it with the new electric garbage.
