Happy Monday all. The sailing season is almost here, and we are trying to get all the Catalina 30's and the others ready for the water in time. This week we bring you the 1982 keel repair part 3 - "Glass and Fairing"
in this video we use Totalboat resin and totalboat total fair to finish this keel. Now all that remains is paint and upkeep on the keel bolts
So let me know what you think.
Cheers all !

Ty
Perfect I have been waiting for this one
Thank you
You're welcome 😊
Well done!!!
Thanks guys
Once again
Great video
Thank you for all of this
My pleasure! thank you for watching
Looks great! The gloves are a good idea to get it on there fast - when I was using the total fair, I accidentally wasted half a container by mixing it and thinking I had longer than I did and it dried like steal on my cutting board. Total fair is an amazing product and Total Boat if you see this you need to sponsor this man! I have bought so many total boat products because of this channel.
Hell yeah using the gloves was amazing and fast. And thank you for the love
I'd love to rep @totalboat
Looks great
You absolutely turned me in to the totalboat products
Great to hear! I know you will be happy with their gear
esp the totalfair
Great Video Brian. Love the had application btw.
I don't get how you have the time for all of this but keep it up
Thank you sir. and i dont know how i find the time
I am going to have to slow down now with my back but ill try to keep it up
5200 is great stuff
Love it for certain applications
Killer to clean up through lol 😆
I was driving in the city the other day. I stopped at a red light. A lady of the night came up to my car and I rolled down the window to see what she wanted. She said she would do anything for $50. I asked her "would you sand total boat fairing compound on my Catalina?" She said no....
Lol lol
Great video! We are about to work on our Catalina smile next week. Did you apply primer paint on it or just antiblative bottom paint after sanding down the fairing compound?
@@sailingtengai I used non abl epoxy based paint
In hind sight I would of barrier coated first then painted
@ Thanks Brian!
@sailingtengai my pleasure and feel free to reach out if you guys have any questions
Best to use FB if you need me
I never thought of it that way. Mine has the same exact thing about a foot and a 1/2 back. It's open because it cracked, but the rest of the Keel is just fine. You might be right, maybe just the calking fell out.
more than likely
feel free to send me a photo on insta or FB
you should be checking the keel bolts yearly as well
Great video. Was there anything special you did to prepare the lead to apply the fiberglass?
I recommend using course sand paper to create a surface that the glass can grip as well as a good cleaning and no oxidation
@@Sailing.Artemis Excellent! Thanks.
@@catalinadave3919 my pleasure
job looks pretty good. what torque spec did you use for her keel bolts?
There are two schools of thought
Catalina direct calls for 115 lbs
Catalina the manufacturer says 68 lbs
I go with Catalina and have yet to have an Issue
@@Sailing.Artemis cool. I am on those same two schools and follow the Catalina spec of 68 for my 1983.
@@ChrisDenny28 that makes me happy to hear
So many people listen to Catalina Direct but they are 3rd party
After the Total Boat Total Fair is applied and sanded can I apply VC17 directly onto the Total Fair? Or should i first use some kind of bottom paint/ sealer?
You should check with totalboat
However I have had tons of luck just applying paint directly to the total fair
0 issues with that for me
