2:18 The Old Wellington certainly has a massive history. It used to sit across the street in the old Shambles Square since 1552 but was moved brick by brick around 1996 when that part of Manchester was redeveloped
Good work Danny, you said the magic words 'hidden gems'. As a proud Mancunian I really value my home town, its rich in culture, history and entertainment. You can relax on grassed areas, at bars or go to the cinema etc. We do have our fair share of the grim side of life too but when you look at this it's a wow. There is just one thing out of place though.. its usually absolutely buzzin with people! Where the hell are they...
Love Manchester. My paternal grandfather was from here but before I moved here 32 years ago from London did not know it well. Now well and truly my home. Feel invested in the place which never did in London. In 35 years believe me so much has changed..
Good review mate. Will be much better once they have completed the renovation of Albert Square and the town hall. Probably one of the most know parts of the city centre
Manchester has some awesome classic architecture, with some of my favourites being the red-brick Victorian masterpieces scattered around. Central Libray is certainly impressive from the outside, but take a look at John Rylands which is mind-blowing inside.
Locals can’t afford to buy or rent the apartments they have built apart from Londoners and south twats that’s moving there. London is a shithole so why do the same to Manchester
I like Manchester, but don't forget Norwich. I live in the Norfolk Broads, and Norwich has an amazing Viking history, and more medieval buildings than any other city in the Divided Kingdom.
You found the Roman wall! 😃 I go to Manchester for fun quite often, from Victoria Station, either walk around the centre, or take the tramway to Media City. Both areas have a Bella Italia 😋, and finding a pizza in the UK which deserves the name is quite rare. The library is worth visiting, too, alone for the building inside, and then there's the house where Emmeline Pankhurst lived. If I want to stay overnight I'd be at the Ibis Budget at Salford Quais. Manchester is to this day the only city in the UK I actually like.
Definitely one on my favourite cities and I go back in a couple of weeks. Glasgow is a close second. I live in London which is cool but far too big!! 👍🏻😀
Manchester at one time in history was one of the most wealthiest places in the entire world. So it seems that it is not so much being developed, than it is being restored. The notorious Don Arden, music mogul and father/in law of Sharon and Ozzy Osborne was born on the street you were walking down near the prison.
i live in manchester originally from near newcastle and lived in leicester and birmingham as well. Manchester is a great city very openminded people and very cool vibe (music & art etc). However its getting very expensive and is going the way of london people are getting priced out with regards to rental prices etc
I stayed in that hotel years ago (worst rated in Manchester) for a weekend. The bar (that has a back entrance) was rowdy and they had bouncers at the main entrance too but everything else was fine.

There’s always an argument for councils and developers NOT no invest in town centres, lack of foot fall, lack of interest from companies and brands in leasing buildings. No point pumping millions into an area where it’s not going to make money. One day when the country sacks off Amazon and the like then we may see the so called high street making a return, but I doubt it.
At c1.59 you were technically in Salford..where the hotel you hated is...Part of the CC within the Inner Ring Road is in Salford...So such as the back of Harvey Nicks and the front of the Cathedral look over the river into Salford..Such is Greater Manchester. I live close to where 3 of the local authorities meet..Salford Manchester and Bury just a couple of miles up from the city centre..
Remember the riot, dead hot weather for April 1990. Gave strangeways’ phone number to one of the lads in the pub but didn’t tell him, just said it was a customer after a bit of roofing doing.
England needs a rival to London rather than everything being sucked down south. We aren't the big USA with multiple great Cities but we should promote Manchester so that it is as near prestigious and attractive as London. When I say "attractive" I mean more than the environment but as attractive for artists, software designers, and large corporation head quarters.
The tallest building ever built in regional Britain will be built next to Deansgate/Castlefield Met station. It will be just shy of 80 storeys high. These huge structures are being announced almost weekly now. The race with London is now on. Devolution has transformed Greater Manchester.

It's an over-glorified large town and is en route to becoming Blackpool 2.0, but without the record-breaking amusement park. There are almost zero opportunities in Brighton unless you're a chef, a tattoo artist, a bike thief, or your ambition in life is to sell tat on the corner (all of which you can do a lot more successfully in almost every other English city). To live a good life in Brighton you would need to spend your career in London first, and even still there's nothing WITHIN the city that would keep you from travelling to London to actually spend your money on goods or entertainment. I agree that Brighton has massive potential - but it needs to start ignoring the pentioners protests of every urban project, and living up to its old moniker of 'London-by-Sea' - if it wants to raise the quality of life and opportunities for locals. If the people of yesterday had the same attitude as Brighton council/OAP's today - the Pavilion wouldn't exist, the Pier wouldn't exist, and neither would those large white waterfront estates. In my opinion, if Brighton keeps rejecting development projects; having no vision for its future (particularly seeing as it is supposed to be a 'summer tourist hot-spot'); and insisting on 3-4 bedroom housing IN CENTRAL CITY LOCATIONS (despite rejecting apartments because they are 'not affordable', as if 3-4 bedroom houses on the waterfront will ever be affordable) -- then they should have their city-status revoked.

Some great places, not a fan of Spinningfields, on a grey day, we have many 😊 it blends in with the sky, like some colour.
That prison gate looks like the one featured at the end of 'Kind Hearts and Coronets'.
Some throw back that film! Classic!
Sir Edwin Lutyens designed the white building(Now Gotham). The man famed for the London Cenotaph.

The 'grim hotel' near the start of your video is I believe scheduled to be demolished and replaced by something much better in the near future.
