Eoin McLove is based on an Irish singer from rural Donegal named Daniel O'Donnell. His style is a soft, twee form of 'adult contemporary' and he's known for his interaction with his fanbase - which is mostly old ladies!

Been waiting for you to get to this one, I know there's not much Father Ted left, but if you want something similar (also a lot of absurdist humour, randomness, insane characters) I'd really recommend Black Books, another Channel 4 comedy, from the early 2000s. The writer of Father Ted was a contributing writer to it and it stars Dylan Moran, Bill Bailey and Tamsin Gregg.

_Old Biddy_ is a derogatory term for an elderly person in the UK (and I'm guessing also in Ireland!). I mean, _piggy's_ would've been just as bad! But it's not a derogatory term to specifically describe elderly people.

After you finish Father Ted, I'd recommend considering beginning your Alan Partridge (Steve Coogan) journey with the UK series *Knowing Me, Knowing You with Alan Partridge* (1994). It's amongst the absolute best of UK comedy, can guarantee laughs like Peep Show, Inbetweeners and Ireland's Father Ted.
6:00 The singer is a parody of a very popular (in certain circles) Irish singer called Daniel O'Donnell, who has a super squeaky clean-cut image.
    From Wikipedia :
His Image- O'Donnell is arguably better known for his gentle, soft-spoken personality and clean-cut image, than for his music. Over the years he has attracted vast media attention and there have been many cultural references to the performer. O'Donnell is frequently satirised in Irish and British comedy because of a common supposition that his audience consists mainly of older women.[30] He was parodied as celebrity singer "Eoin McLove" in the Father Ted episode "Night of the Nearly Dead", as well as an episode of BBC sketch-show Chewin' the Fat, as an Irish singer named "Donald O'Daniel". The comedy show Bull Island and the radio sketch segment "Gift Grub" portrayed him in sketches frequently singing about his "mammy".[31] DJ Chris Moyles has parodied O'Donnell on numerous occasions.[32]
O'Donnell is known for his close relationship with his fans and has a meet-and-greet session after almost every concert. He used to host a massive tea party for his fans outside his Donegal home every year.[1] He has expressed a wish to appear in Coronation Street.
    24:10 An old sea-dog accent.

This Eoin McLove character, at least the nice version, is based on an Irish singer named Daniel O’Donnell who specialised in music for adoring older ladies. He travelled around the UK, selling out venues stuffed full of grannies who worshiped him. He even sold out cruise ships as well, a real blue rinse boat. This episode is very much a piss take on him.

Along with other shows by the same writer (The IT Crowd, Black Books), I also strongly recommend you try Keeping Up Appearances and Only Fools & Horses. Keeping Up Appearances is quite a calming, gentle kind of show, with more subtle comedy, but once you get to know the characters, it's such a good show. :-) And Only Fools & Horses - that's pretty much the King of British comedy - it's both hilarious and emotional at times (more so emotional in the later seasons), and there's so many episodes, you'll have a lot to enjoy. :-)

Another one, Dougal says "its like a tide of jam coming towards us, but jam made of old women" and later we see Dougal tempting to eat jam. They're like little easter eggs that go unnoticed in the episode.

🤯 OMG YES! I completely forgot 🤦🤦 some more British slang terminology for the Boomers - "Old Biddies" "Old Codgers" "Old Farts" "Old Gimmer" "Old Geri" {pronounced Jerry - as in Geriatric"... Slang is the heart of the lingo.

I take it you've never even heard of "Night of the living dead" from 1968. Edgar Wright was inspired by that film and referenced it in "Shaun of the dead" when Nick Frost's character shouts "We're coming to get you Barbara" down the phone to Shaun's mum, despite the writer of Night of the living dead not noticing the reference at the premiere.

Mate, your reaction "omg I'm gonna shit my pants" is probably the funniest I've seen in a while! I love that you 'get' the Fr Ted Irish humour! Keep laughing and enjoying yourself pal! ... Greetings from Ireland

Unless I missed it, you seemed not to realise the play on words of the title? Think "night of the living dead" old movie. You referred to itas a zombie apocolypse too!!

john Paul II was called Karol. The insult McLove aimed at the old ladies was biddies not piggies as biddies is often used to describe old women. Sadly too few episodes of Father Ted due to Dermot's untimely death

The whackier the last season of Father Ted gets, the funnier the reaction from King & Queen Boomer. Well done guys looking forward to the last episode, cheers..
