You Rang, M'Lord ? - edited scene restored

This is a scene which was trimmed for UK broadcast, but the full scene is presented here as broadcast on UK TV in Australia. It is from the series 4 episode "Come To The Ball".

I have watched this show so many times and never knew it had been edited down for british TV. Thats shocking! They could have at least put it on the DVD!

One of the things I loved about this series is how many of the characters were nuanced and well-rounded. James for example was something of an elitist and would make excuses for the unseemly behavior of the Meldrum family and turned a blind eye for instance to what Lord Teddy had been getting up to with past maids. He also talked down to Henry and treated him like a kid. He did however have a good side to him and was very good to Ivy. You could see he genuinely cared about her. So much so that prevented Alf from being caught out in assisting the crooked pawnbroker in attempting to rob the Meldrums because he found out she was his daughter. Even though by seeing him fired, he might have had a potential chance of being made Butler, which was a position that he coveted. He was quite noble in that regard.

Lord Meldrum's (Donald Hewlett) and Ivy's (Su Pollard) own voice is very similar to their Hungarian dubs (Pál Somogyvári (although in the last episodes, as this, due to Pál Somogyvári's death, Sándor Makay was the Hungarian voice) and Ildikó Hámori, respectively).

0:30 - This is the point where the edit is made. You Rang M'Lord aired just this week again on GOLD here in the UK and it was edited again. Heavens know why, but they cut to 1:38

Well, well! I'm at a bit of a loss to know what it was that was said that required editing out, though.
Would be just great to see some outtakes of this show.

I reckon they cut the scene down because of a mistake in the script. At 1:03 Lord Meldrum (who is in his 60s) says he had a Teddy when he was young, but that wouldn't have been possible. The first Teddy bear was in 1903, just 20 years before the series is set.

No, the bit about 'Mr Teddy's Teddy' was edited out. The bit with the 'Chinamen' is still in the UK edition DVD.

Well that was really weird. You would assume that this scene was shortened in order to remove that excruciating bit of xenophobia about 'Chinamen' at the end but comparing this to the DVD release the offending joke is still it place. It is in fact Lord Meldrum's 'Mr. Teddy's Teddy' monologue that was cut from the scene.
