@@APREACTS Best weird fun fact, though: Auatralian black metal band Myrddraal had a bass player named Chris Turk who left in 2002, so one year after Scrubs had started. I assume, working full-time as a surgeon in L.A. and simultaneously playing bass in Australia wasn't feasible.
So much looking forward new album. That band is in incredible shape, their gig last weekend at John Smith Frozen was just epic, so if and when they finally are able to tour, they are must see act where ever they go.
I can get where you are coming from that first time I heard The Bee it’s one of those memories of certain songs where I can remember exactly how I felt when I put it on, so blown away by how good it was and still do anytime I listen to it now. This is a different kind of song so it’s hard to have that same impact but it is such a beautiful song with all the bits you expect from amorphis. On a side note there aren’t many better vocalists around than Tomi he’s up there with the best at creating those beautiful melodies which turn the songs into how special they are like he has done with so many across the albums he’s on.
Wow first note till the last it really captured my attention, is the new album ready for pre order. i tried their official webpage but it state shop is opening soon, will try later thank you for the review too! \m/ stay safe!
For me this song shows me the level of maturity of the band and the astounding yet understated songwriting skill of a world class band. However loving it as much it not more than the bee, I was sure that people would react poorly to the lack of that energy and heaviness. From this song I get the feeling this album is going to be a little more melodic and a bit proggier than Queen of Time. As someone who liked but didn't love Queen Of Time, this definitely is more up my alley.
I like this song more each time I hear it. The chemistry in this band is such now that they can not do wrong. One of the few bands that have never let me down. For me, singles are rarely the best songs on an album.
I love both this song and The Bee so much. The Bee is Heavier and more Energetic, but The Moon is more Cerebral. It's as you said, it makes my soul feel good, it relaxes me and makes me crave stories.
"Dammit Moon-moon!" So cool! The moment when you've heard the song about 30 times, but let's listen to it with Antonio and Pedro! Aand after the phenomenal Bee, amongst stars was on the same level Thanks guys!
The bee was mind-blowing and after 3.5 years still is. This is anyway going to be a great album and i preordered it because it's Amorphis, how can you not! Great review as always!
When Queen of Time was released about 3,5 years ago, the songs were written in a different time. We're living inside the storm now, everybody's suffering one way or the other, and it has to have an impact on the creative process and the music, unless of course there's a conscious effort to find escape from it. That's why I kinda expected something between the extremes of sad and melancholy or frustrated and angry. Perhaps the next single is going to be heavier. I felt there a little something from Holopainen's Silver Lake project, this song could've gone well with that collection of songs and vibe.
I can see where you're coming from because I was also totally blown away by the Bee in a way this song didn't. On the other hand, as Antonio alluded to, this is exactly the stuff that I love so much about Amorphis, this combination of death metal growls, progressive metal elements and the more folky, melancholic elements (including clean vocals) that lift Amorphis over most other bands in the genre. Where I disagree a bit is about the relationship between vocals and instrumentals. Because while I completely agree about the quality of Tomi's voice (to me, he and Floor are on the same level that all-time greats like Dio and Dickinson are), I absolutely love Esa's guitar play and I also think that especially Jan and Santeri did a phenomenal job with the drums and keyboards in this song. I've probably listened to it 40 or 50 times as of right now and I just can't get tired of it. So maybe not The Bee part II, but as far as I am concerned, they might have a second House of Sleep on their hands.
Edit: This comment might be long ... I've been a Norwegian hardcore @Amorphis fan since I heard them first time in 1996, and up until now I've loved every album (with two exceptions that is). Up until I heard Amorphis, I was not a huge fan of Growling. The only band with growling that I liked up until then, was Theatre of Tragedy. Btw You must listen to the album version of their song " A Hamlet For A Slothful Vassal ". It's just awesome! On every device I have, the song "Grain of Sand" stands as the most played track, followed by Black Winter day and Drowned Maid (both the new versions). The music itself and how Tomi J. sings is for me still mind-blowin. He's one of the vocalists that sounds/sings even better live on stage than his superb sound on the studio albums. Talking about Tomi J...Him singing the song Mirrors by Hallatar...Holy Sh!t !! Nobody can do it like him! So when this new single was released I had really, I mean really huge expectations. Was hoping for a new The Bee. So did the single deliver? No, sadly it didn't. It started ok, but when the "If you bow to the eye of storm.." sequence came, it felt like they started playing a totally different song. It just don't fit in this song. Neither the rythm or the tones. It's just not where it should be, if you know what I mean. It also sound too commercial for being a real Amorphis song.... except from the last part of the song. There they deliver what Amorphis is to me🤘. How Tomi changes the way of singing the way that only he can do. Must mention that I do like the instrumental parts like the drumming, the keyboard etc as well. Yes they've had similar songs before, but not as a first single for a new album. I really hope that the rest of the upcoming album is more like the Amorphis that I personally really love, cause Amorphis is for me almost as superb as Ronald James Padavona. He still stands as number one, from Elf, Rainbow, Black Sabbath, Dio and Heaven and Hell + a lot more he did in between. 🤘
Here's a perfect example of how total superb Tomi Joutsen's voice is. Live from 2006. Listen to the way he changes his voice in the intro of the song. I actually have this as a ringtone on one of my cellphones 😁 The song is Perkele live at Provinssrock 2006. (I'm not allowed sharing the link) Just search here on YT 🙂
Shoutout for namedropping ToT! I loved the first two albums, and Liv Kristine was one of the first artists I was able to get a photo with. That was back at Wacken 1996. She was somewhat of a crush, understandably. 😊
To me it's a parent's soothing calming hand on a child's head. I pair the song with The Smoke, which to me is the one Amorphis song I'm taking to a desert island with me. As great song as The Bee is, to me it's a bit gimmicky, and doing a similar song to their next album would have felt to me like they are repeating themselves and not evolving as a band the way they do.
I can see your point, but for me this one tops House of Sleep or The Bee as a first single. While it lacks a little in terms of originality, it does better what they do best. Melancholy and melody at its finest! Song of the Year already for me.
I feel exactly opposite, The Bee was very good but for me The Moon is out of this world and might be my favourite song from Amoprhis which makes me wait for the new album sooooo much 💪
Totally agree with Pedro's vision on this song, The Bee and Amongst Stars were monsters of songs, the album was huge, so expectations for Halo are enormous. I looked it up and The Moon is track 3 on the album by the way.
I was excited to hear Amorphis released new stuff. I was torn about this single. It is a good song but I expected something stronger. And the second thought I had, is this just me? Everyone else loves this? I have to check has AP already reacted to this, and of course! You have! And seems you are on the same level as me. It is not like the Bee. It is not the spectacular amazing epic start of a new album. This is solid Amorphis, but I expected more, and I hope Amorphis will deliver more on the final album. But still, this is good stuff and I really enjoyed the song, and I really enjoyed your analyzes of it
Amorphis never disappoints! Can't wait for the new album! By the way....Arch Enemy released a new track yesterday.....House Of Mirrors....omg! It's a must listen.
this have von herzen brothers sound ( check out). this have meditation sound. this is when heavy people go to relax. this is when music make you good and this song are like relax for good heavy good mind of situation. i love it. thanx to great reaction and have great weekend there.
To me it has the same effect as the bee if not better, so to each their own, as a matter of a fact it's the perfect first single not to mention the awesome video
100% agree with you, this is a very good amorphis song but it didn’t not blew me away like the bee, queen of time & under the red cloud are fantastic albums, I am not sure if Halo can reach that level, I hope I am wrong 😉
Gj as usual guys, no wonder i am your long time sub :) I think this album from Amorphis will be the best so far from the new gen and i guess as well that we will hear Anneke van Giersbergen in this one :)
Great song, especially compared to some of their other more commercial single songs. I think it has a lot of depths. One the other hand, it‘s nothing too special for Amorphis and miles apart from the absolutely breathtaking first single "The bee". "The bee" even managed to bring back my love for Amorphis, I was blown away. I‘m totally with you on this one, would have been a better fit for a second single.
a fairly Prog / Melodic single that closely resembles the Beginning Of Times era and a little something from QoT… it's not a bad song, but I agree that it shouldn't have been the first single. At the moment one expects something different from Amorphis… this formula seems very worn to me!
The new single is good, but unlike The Bee it kinda lacks originality and brings nothing new. I don't think the new album is gonna surpass Queen Of Time which was and still is (at least for me) the best metal album of the decade, but I guess it's gonna be great :)
Fun fact: Amorphis were the first band added to the Encyclopaedia Metallum. 😱🤘
WoW, awesome trivia question

awesome 😎
This is next level. If AMORPHIS continues on this trend, me very happy! Congrats to them on an amazing track and very powerful!
So much looking forward new album. That band is in incredible shape, their gig last weekend at John Smith Frozen was just epic, so if and when they finally are able to tour, they are must see act where ever they go.

i thinkits a beautiful song
Thank you guys for checking out this song. Always great to hear your take on new music. Excited for the new Amorphis
i listened to on headphones and it really sounded so beautiful - very beautiful lyrics and melody

This song blew my mind, but The Bee crumbled my universe. This is great song tho. Cant wait what's coming next. Thanks for the review!
If the Bee and The Moon did that, what about Wrong Direction?
@@MoonOvIce It shook me all night long 🤤
@@josemartinvirallinen Yeah, simple yet beautiful song, every time I listen to it I need to repeat listen once or twice again to get them feels again.

OH YES!!! I'm waiting for this new album like kids are waiting for a Christmas!
I opened for them with my former band in 2017 Louisville KY

I really loved this song, it brought me back to some feels that Elegy or Tuonela gave me.

Great minds think alike.
@@APREACTS ...but fools rarely differ. That's the ending to the saying but I would argue one would need to be a fool to not enjoy Amorphis.

Definitivamente ,ao lado de In Flames, Katatonia, Paradise Lost, Anathema e Opeth. são as mais fantásticas do Death Metal Progressivo!

I agree Pedro, 100%. This one sounds nice, but doesn't grab me even remotely as close as The Bee did. It's impossible not to compare experiences here.

Som de 1a o Amorphis , muito bom...
Put Johnny Depp, Peter Tägtgren and this guy on same table.. who will be first under the table? xd
I didn't know Amorphis had become sort of "softly proggy". Not too shabby.
Next Leo Moracchiloli and Adele-Hello cover.

I dont know if they can beat the bee.
I liked it. Wasn't as good as some singles. I blame Corona virus and quarantine.
Omg, i love this band "Amorphis" and good band is "Battle Beast" too. Hello from Finland 🇫🇮
It’s a mid-tempo song like wrong direction in the previous album and an typical Amorphis song.
Dont really get it. Most songs they do are melancholic and very melodic, just like this one.
