- Wicked (also known as Wicked Part One) is an upcoming American musical fantasy film directed by Jon M. Chu and written by Winnie Holzman and Dana Fox. It is the first of a two-part film adaptation of the stage musical of the same name by Stephen Schwartz and Holzman, which in turn was based on the 1995 novel of the same name by Gregory Maguire and characters from L. Frank Baum's 1900 novel The Wonderful Wizard of Oz. The film stars Cynthia Erivo and Ariana Grande, with Michelle Yeoh, Jeff Goldblum, Jonathan Bailey, Ethan Slater, Marissa Bode (in her film debut), Bowen Yang, Bronwyn James, Keala Settle, and Peter Dinklage in supporting roles. Set in the Land of Oz, largely before Dorothy Gale's arrival from Kansas, the plot follows green-skinned Elphaba and her path to ultimately becoming the Wicked Witch of the West, alongside an unlikely friendship and later rivalry with a classmate who later becomes Glinda the Good.
Universal Pictures announced the adaptation in 2012 with Marc Platt as a producer. After a long development and multiple delays due to the COVID-19 pandemic, Chu was hired to direct, with Erivo and Grande cast in their respective roles in 2021, along with the decision to split the film into two parts. Principal photography on both films began in December 2022 in England, and was paused in July 2023 due to the 2023 SAG-AFTRA strike, eventually resuming then concluding in January 2024.
Theatrical release in the United States is scheduled for November 22, 2024, with Wicked Part Two slated for November 26, 2025.

An enemy is needed to justify victimhood? No no no no. That’s definitely missing the point of this particular story. The wizard wants to use Elphaba, she declines, so she then becomes his enemy. The Wizard needs to ensure Elphaba doesn’t get people to turn against him for what he has unleashed, so he makes HER the enemy. The Wizard and Morrible(sp?) spread misinformation/disinformation about Elphaba. Consequently, and efficiently, “bringing people together.” Have a common enemy? You’re likely to have a common goal.
Although the Wizard could claim to be a victim of her refusal, that’d be a rather petty matter (ntm the wizard isn’t one to be all “woe is me.”) But if people have been wronged, they certainly have every right to be heard as a victim, and every right to name their abuser. You can be a victim AND a survivor/fighter; they aren’t mutually exclusive. (Same goes for victim and perpetrator, but obviously there is far more nuance to that.)

Off topic but you seen the critics attacking Joker 2 just the same as they did to the first movie! Almost makes me think it will 100% be amazing if the same critics who attacked the first one are going at this one so aggressively!
Entirely agree … I am fascinated to know what riles them so much about these films … I think it’s to do with a po-faced snobbery around Todd Phillips - he doesn’t fit the film critics idea of an “auteur” - you’re so right - I spoke about it this morning on Coffee Moaning (go check towards the last 10 minutes of the live this morning) … 🍿🙏🎬
@@sawalhaadderleys yes! Very interesting seeing more independent smaller critics supporting the film and more “prestigious” critics from companies having something negative to say🤔I wonder if it’s a collective industry punishment for Joaquin due to the Todd Haynes situation

There is another trailer which released at the same time for brazil and its way better with so many more clips and newer things we havent seen!
It's an international trailer released outside the USA, not just Brazil, some also has their own dubbed version of that.
