Excellent comment. Albanese Labor wouldn't worry about the mental health of our youth. They have shown that they have little regard for the health of average Australians by the decline in living standards under their governance.
There is, but unfortunately not enough people are willing to use it. Over 25% of voters did at the last Fed election, but it needs to be over 50% to work.

The issue is pretty straight forward. Labor places no responsibility on the parents of children - who bully other children on line - on social media. Labor under it's E-Karen places all the responsibility on the social media companies. Labors E-Karen is a former Twitter executive - fired by Musk. So this is personal. This is aimed at social media companies - for a very personal reason. The parents are exempt under labor. Yet it is the parents - of the victims who are cheering on this legislation - for good reason. It's the fact - that labor has left out the perpetrators and their families that makes this a bad piece of legislation. In that labor can't stop youth under 16 years of age - from obtaining other things they are not supposed to get - like cigarettes - vapes - alcohol - illegal drugs. That in those cases they find adults that will supply them those items. And labor refuses to do anything about putting severe penalties on the people who enable young people to access - these so called banned items. And the internet will be the same. That social media companies can only do such much - to comply with the legislation - and can't be there in every place - seeing if someone underage - lies when they complete - a set of criteria to have a social media page. This is no different to the charge by Trudeau in Canada - and Starmer in the U.K. - to get rid of social media. And send the police in - to lock you up - because you speak out against - their fake lies and rules. On the surface like all labor lies this sounds great. In reality - it wont work. Young people - who if they get their hands on banned items now - will find a way around this ban - in five minutes. Meaning it's impossible to police absolutely - the age of a person - on social media. If labor tries to then attack social media companies. That's going to be a huge court battle. Because if labors legislation - is simply to get rid of social media companies and this is how you do it. You attack from an angle that appears - to a good idea. When in reality - it is part of their battle game strategy - to remove social media from Australia. And that will be a very ugly debate for labor. Because if voters see that is their real intention - then labor will have a huge backlash on it's hands. And labor will suffer a huge loss of support. This legislation - was to attack social media companies - to find an excuse - to close them out of the Australian - social media space. Where labor has no control over what people say.

A Letter to the Australian People
Subject: The Erosion of Our Freedoms: A Call for Awareness and Action
Dear Fellow Australians,
For over three decades, we have seen a quiet but steady erosion of our personal liberties. Laws, ordinances, and policies-introduced at all levels of government, often under the banner of safety or progress-have incrementally curtailed freedoms that are fundamental to our democracy.
This letter outlines how our freedoms have been restricted, from legislation to land access and even online spaces. It is also a reminder of a crucial truth: In a democracy, the government works for us. We are not subjects to be ruled but citizens to be served.
Federal Legislation
Anti-Terrorism Laws (2005 onwards)
Sweeping powers allow authorities to curtail freedoms based on suspicion, undermining due process and the presumption of innocence.
Metadata Retention Laws (2015)
This law mandates the storage of citizens’ metadata, enabling surveillance that compromises privacy and chills free expression.
Defamation Laws
Australia’s strict defamation laws deter legitimate criticism of powerful figures, limiting free speech and public debate.
New Internet Regulation Laws
Recent laws aimed at online safety and misinformation risk overreach:
The Online Safety Act (2021) grants the government broad powers to remove content, potentially stifling free speech.
Proposals to verify social media users’ identities threaten anonymity, which is vital for whistle blowers, activists, and vulnerable groups.
State Legislation
COVID-19 Public Health Orders
Emergency measures restricted movement, assembly, and protest, raising concerns about governments normalizing such powers beyond crises.
Protest Laws
Heavy penalties for disruptive protests prioritize economic interests over democratic rights to assembly and dissent.
Bikie Laws (QLD)
Anti-association laws risk criminalizing personal relationships, setting a dangerous precedent for broader societal restrictions.
Local Ordinances and Public Land Restrictions
National Parks and Wildlife Restrictions
Public land access has been significantly restricted by agencies like the National Parks and Wildlife Service:
Permits, fees, and outright bans now limit activities like bushwalking, fishing, and camping that were once freely enjoyed.
These measures disconnect Australians from their natural heritage under the guise of conservation.
Aboriginal Land Restrictions Under Native Title
While Native Title recognizes Indigenous rights, its bureaucratic implementation often imposes restrictions:
Non-Indigenous Australians need permission to access native title lands, fostering division rather than unity.
Indigenous communities face limitations on traditional practices, undermining the intent of empowerment.
Why This Matters
The government exists to serve us, not to control us. Every law, regulation, and ordinance must reflect this principle. Yet, when governments prioritize control over consultation, or safety over liberty, they lose sight of their mandate: to protect our rights and ensure our freedoms.
Unchecked, these measures risk normalizing restrictions on our daily lives, leaving future generations with a diminished democracy.
A Call to Action
As Australians, we must hold our government accountable and remind those in power of their duty to serve the people. Here’s how we can act:
Demand Accountability:
Insist on transparency in the creation and enforcement of laws.
Call for checks and balances that ensure policies protect freedoms rather than restrict them.
Reclaim Our Role as Citizens:
Engage with representatives and demand meaningful consultation on policies that affect your life.
Remind elected officials that they are stewards of our democracy, not rulers of the people.
Defend Our Liberties:
Support initiatives that protect free speech, privacy, and public access to land.
Push back against laws that overreach, whether they target online spaces, protests, or personal relationships.
Foster Unity and Collaboration:
Work with Indigenous communities to ensure native title frameworks empower them while fostering shared stewardship of the land.
Advocate for balanced approaches to conservation that prioritize public access alongside environmental protection.
A Shared Vision for Australia
Our freedoms are not gifts from the government; they are inherent rights. In a democracy, the government derives its authority from the people. When that government forgets this, it is up to us-the citizens-to remind them.
Together, we can safeguard our freedoms and ensure that Australia remains a land of opportunity, unity, and liberty for all.
